IKEA Asks – ‘How Do you Keep your Home Organized in 2011?’

Entry #391, January 19, 2011

Yesterday I received an email from one of my all time favorite stores… yes IKEA, and it is asking you ,”What do you do to keep your home organized?” I absolutely love this, because since January is organization month on Stagetecture, I thought who better to feature than Ikea?

When I read down further in the email, they are having their IKEA Facebook Fans leave comments on the post:

2011: The year you get organized! What do you do to keep your home organized? Share your advice!

So I thought today I would feature some of the best posts I saw on their FB page!

How do you organize your home in 2011?

Larissa Holderness ♥ Minimalism!
For me to keep things uncluttered at the moment … I watch Hoarders. And every time I do, I throw away/donate more items that I do not need. :)

Itzul A. Chavira am starting to make tracking check lists for almost everything, like in a job, also am finding that labeling each day with a purpose is helping (monday: clean, wash; tuesday: grocery shopping, health day etc) this is helping me keep sane and the basic; using something and putting back where i got it from, the challenge is teaching my preschooler do the same…

Denise Finn Schrader Square plastic containers to store & stack everything from out of season blankets to the kids art & schoolwork to keep. All digital pictures put on CD & stored.Business files & bills on CD & all paper that needs to be is put in the shredder. Color coded files for work, personal, & memos.

Bonnie Boglioli Randall just redid our SMALL coat closet: fresh coat of dark paint (to match surrounding room) hides shoe scuff marks and looks great; big Ikea basket on floor keeps muddy boots; hooks hang dog leash; shoe keeper keeps it all tidy… and still we’ve got space above for extra storage bins that don’t need accessing every day! :)

From small to large- IKEA has great organizational tools!

Pam Schremp ProctorI have an art/craft room that is a 10×13. I use bookshelves with photo boxes on them to keep a LOT of stuff organized. Hired a carpenter last year to help build stuff that I paint and sell and shows. He is now building me an craft paint …

Jennifer Davis Thompson Made a communication center in the foyer, school calendars, permission slips, etc… Each kid has a spot for me to check later… Family calendar there also… If it is not on the calendar it does not happen… Keeps all the paper clutter to a minimum

Actually the Trofast kids storage is amazing for kids, my daughter has been using it for 5 yrs now (she’s 6) and she can clean up herself and does because she knows what goes in each bin….also makes playtime more for becaus…e she knows where her stuff is

Jermey Matthews Go through and purge; then buy boxes/containers and sort the remaining stuff into “need now” and “maybe later”; then rent a storage space and put the “maybe later” stuff into it; in two months, toss anything from the “maybe later” that you didn’t go back to get, because you didn’t “need” it. The money you spend on storage space will be worth it–trust me.
