My DIY American Express #PassionProject – Welcoming Light

 Entry #2653, July 15, 2013

Every year in the Gibson household, I’m always trying to find a way to make my home more welcoming. Whether it is for my family, guests that come to visit, or just me (who spends 24 hours and 7 days in it!). So I was excited when American Express asked me to pair with them in the American Express Passion Project contest and promotion. See how you and I both can fulfill our DIY project passions with American Express and a chance at a $500 Home Depot Gift Card.

My Passion Project – Welcoming guests to Stagetecture and into my home

The American Express Passion Project is a new program designed to enable, inspire and encourage people to pursue their passion projects. The #PassionProject brings together leading experts, how-to advice, personal profiles and a monthly contest to inspire consumers to pursue the projects that are important and meaningful to their lives.

American Express DIY – #PassionProject

Stagetecture readers have always loved to find inspiration for DIY projects and get ideas to renovate and beautify their homes. I decided my DIY Passion Project would be all about bringing gorgeous lighting into my home.

My Passion Project inspiration: Bringing gorgeous lighting into my home

Since I started Stagetecture in 2009 I have always envisioned it to be a place to lead people who are “lost” looking for ideas, inspiration to arm themselves with knowledge but also be a welcoming place to call home at any time of the day.  I decided that my “Passion” is making readers and guests to my home feel welcomed and lighting is the perfect way to do this. Guiding homeowners to help them realize the potential they hold to make their home everything they want has been the driving passion of mine and the drive behind Stagetecture.

Using my Home Depot card to install lighting

I always love DIY projects that transform your home, without having to give it a complete overhaul. My front door patio and foyer are in desperate need of updated lighting. My 1987 home still has brass fixtures in the foyer and an outdated surface mounted front porch light. Have you noticed that lighting is one of the few elements of your home that can instantly brighten your mood, bring more color into your space and leave your guests feeling the warmth of your hospitality when entering and leaving your home?

I was provided a Home Depot gift card courtesy of American Express Membership Rewards program to fulfill my Passion Project. I will buy:

  • An exterior front entry pendant lighting fixture
  • A front interior foyer lighting fixture
  • Replace my garage exterior coach lighting fixture

Front entry lanterns, wall sconces, and pendant lighting are good options for DIY ideas.
