Everyone has that favorite piece of wall art that we thoroughly enjoy that causes us become excited and renewed every time we view it. Did you know that within each piece of artwork there is a pattern, a color palette, texture, a rhythm and a theme? These terms are used in some of the core questions that you ask yourself when designing your own space. That means that with one work of art it would be possible for you to choose your entire space’s decor and here is how.

What Matches Your Personality
Your personality draws you to certain portraits that can depict your character qualities. Such as if you have an animated character then Kandinsky (image shown above) or some Picasso works would be up your alley or if you have more of a graceful and warm character then Leonardo Da Vinci’s works would be more for you. But picking out an art piece that describes and expresses your individual personality will create all the difference within your space because it is displaying you.

Pull Out the Elements
In each art work, there a number of elements that are being shown and they are what you want to pull out when designing your space. The painting above (Mona Lisa, Leonardo Da Vinci) has a graceful and elegant theme, like most of his artwork that portrays women. Curves are dominant and the variety of dull hues cause the scene to be soft and warm. The dark brown that looks relatively close to black, outlines her body and causes her to stand out from the background. The background has the nature scene that carries the green, blue and gray tones for the portrait. These are what you want to note because they will be the foundational direction for your selection with the furniture, colors, flooring, window treatments, wall covering, lighting and more.

After you have found the key elements for the space from the art then go and shop for them. Finally, you want to put the items you have found together for the design of your space. The room above displays that core characteristics of the portrait. It is elegant and graceful, the black and dark brown colors outlines the furniture, wall, and flooring to make them stand out. Curves are everywhere and the environment is soft, warm and inviting.
