Simple but Gorgeous
Garlands are a very common decorative item used for holiday decoration. Drape the mantelpiece down to its length with garland strings. The garland can be made of green leaves, pinecones, and artificial red berries. The wall above the mantel can be adorned with a round garland or something unique like a peace sign made of hot-gluing ornaments attached to a hula-hoop. The place can be accessorized by placing metal or wooden reindeers on the mantel and in front of the hearth. Instead of reindeers, you can give en ethnic touch by using large hurricanes. Finally, hang some stockings above the hearth and hide the hooks under the garland.

Classic Christmas Colors
Christmas means red, white, and green. So, you can easily incorporate these colors in your mantel decoration. Complement an aromatic evergreen garland on mantel with fresh pomegranates and a row of mini conifers. To create a harmony with the red color of pomegranates, tuck sprigs of fresh red berries or red crystals into the evergreens.
Complete the look by placing two red candles on long candlesticks in front of the hearth. Red flowers or plants in a small planter can also be used instead of candles.

A Personal Touch
Christmas is undoubtedly a family celebration. So, giving a personal touch to the decoration always creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The wall space above the mantel can be a great place for placing such a personal item. A large chalkboard framed with an antique-inspired frame can be a medium to write down personal messages. Write something on it that is meaningful to your family and dear ones. You can complement the antique and warm look of the chalkboard with fresh greenery and vintage accessories.
You can also use handmade cards to create this effect. Make cards with personal messages written inside them for each of your family members and hang them with strings or paperclips. Your family will surely be happy to have such a nice gift.
Create Balance in Christmas Decorations
It does not matter which style you like but it is very important to keep a balance in your decoration. If you have a wide assortment of pieces to display, arrange them in a symmetrical order to avoid a cluttered look. Try to keep a similar decoration for each side of the mantel. The symmetrical balance should be extended to the surroundings of the mantel too.
