If you have ever feel nostalgic for the heyday of the Beatles and the Stones, and are still collecting vintage objects from the 70’s and could die for an old orange plastic phone, maybe you need to bring a bit of retro style decor in your bedroom.

A retro style in bedroom decorating is really easy to create. This is actually a term used to describe interior décor influenced by styles from the past from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. The good news is that you won’t need to spend a large amount of money to turn your bedroom into a comfy retro sanctuary. You can probably still find retro vintage accessories in your parents’ attic or still standing in your grandparents’ living room. However since it’s always a good thing to review the basics, we put together some ideas to help you get started with your room makeover:
1. Bright colours
Red, white and blue if you feel that a British theme would work wonders with the vintage accessories you already own. Bright orange, sunny yellow, apple green and any other vivid secondary colours are generally used and mixed together in retro style. Whether it is for your walls, bed linens or an imposing piece of furniture, don’t be afraid to over-use bright colours to bring to your bedroom this eclectic feel often associated with retro style design
2. Geometric patterns
Take a closer look at the trendy designs and bold fabrics from the 60’s to capture the essence of retro style. Circles, triangles, coloured squares, psychedelic prints and other geometric shapes were popular designs, both in fashion and in decorating. Retro style is an eclectic mix of different shapes and styles.
3. Simplistic design
Retro-design furniture always featured clear and straight lines and focused on a very simplistic approach. Just like the famous orange plastic stool all our parents used to have, curved and circular forms are strong characteristics of retro furniture. Pair sleekly designed furniture with vivid colours and bold prints to take your bedroom décor to another level.

4. Bubbly lighting
Whether it is Lava styled or pendant, having a coollamp is one of the must-haves for the best retro style effect in your bedroom. Preferably go for a bubble shape with oversized light fixtures and of course in a bright, bold colour for the best retro style effect.
5. Few accessories
Accessories play a major role in retro style as they are generally made from shiny and smooth materials, featuring bold designs and vivid colours. Even if retro accessories shouldn’t be neglected, try to keep them to minimum. Instead you should make sure that all the functional pieces of furniture in your bedroom such as the low table, the telephone, stools and so on inspire the retro style.
6. Seek out inspiration
In order to find the retro interior design that will both suit your needs and tastes, feel free to find inspiration from interior design magazines, retro movies and famous designers from the 60’s. You can also find retro items and accessories by combing antique stores and family belongings
