Your house is full of doors of all types. It is likely you pass through these doors every single day without giving much thought as to the importance of their function. Doors separate one area of the house from another, and they also serve to contribute to the aesthetic feel of a home, probably more than you know. If you are facing the task of remodeling your home, then you should give all of your doors some special attention. Here is a guide to fixing up your doors:

Front door
Your front door is one of the first things people notice when they approach your home, and it really makes a statement about who lives inside. What statement is your front door making? Of course, the most important thing is that your front door function properly, but you also need to think about the decorative function of your front door. Choose its color and hardware carefully. Fortunately, painting your front door and changing/adding new hardware is not difficult, so you can have a lot of fun deciding how you want your front door to represent your home.
Interior doors
The doors inside your house are lighter weight than your front door. It is also likely that they get more use, so they are therefore more susceptible to the effects of wear and tear. Tighten loose hinges to keep interior doors from sagging, give them a fresh coat of paint, and change out old door knobs for new ones.

Weatherproofing
No matter what type of climate you live in, it is a good idea to weatherproof your doors while in the stages of home improvement. Weather stripping can be bought fairly inexpensively at any home improvement store, and it is super easy to install. Notice that the weather stripping on older doors may be warped, in which case you simply peel back the old and replace it with the new. Also, replace the weather guard flap on the bottom of the door, if need be.
Door accessories
In addition to door knobs and handles, consider other door accessories like peep holes, knockers, mail drops, kick plates, latches, and pet flaps. If you don’t mind doing some handiwork (or hiring a professional), you can even revive a door’s look by adding windows.
Doors are a very important part of your home’s form and function. Don’t forget about them when it comes time to giving the home a makeover. Keep these suggestions in mind to rejuvenate your doors and get the most out of them.
Dianna Anetsberger bought a fixer-upper and spent a considerable amount of time agonizing over the doors, both internal and external. She replaced the weatherstripping, painted, and decorated each so that her home would feel welcoming throughout the year.
