There are times you really want to snack on something during a great TV-Show, but don’t want to eat those unhealthy, fat-loaded store bought snacks. Or you have some friends come over to watch a game and you wonder what to treat them. There is really nothing easier than to prepare your own snack, made to please your personal taste and ultimately healthy. Chickpeas are legumes and considered a super-food. They are very low in sodium and fat, high in iron, protein, vitamins, antioxidants and fiber and gluten-free. They are a provider of –among others – riboflavin and folate and they are overall considered to have beneficial effects on health. So what are you waiting for? Make this delicious, healthy snack and enjoy!
Healthy Snack: Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

Ingredients:
2 15 oz cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
3 tbsp olive oil
½ tsp paprika, ground
¼ tsp cayenne pepper, ground
¼ tsp cumin, ground
½ tsp salt

Directions
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.
- After draining and rinsing the chickpeas, dry with a towel.
- In a large bowl, combine the chickpeas, the oil and the spices. Stir until chickpeas are well coated.
- Spread chickpeas on a pan lined with baking sheet. Roast for about 30 minutes or until crispy and golden, stirring once halfway through. Enjoy!
To store this healthy snack, keep the chickpeas in an airtight container once they have cooled down completely, at room temperature for about a week.

This recipe can be adapted in any way you would like. Use more or less of the spices, omit some you don’t like or add some others. Great spices to consider would be garlic powder, barbeque spice, and chili powder, cinnamon or ground coriander. Herbs like rosemary or oregano. Of course they would taste great even with salt and pepper alone! Just have fun and try different combinations to find out your healthy snack favorite!
