Olioboard Inspiration #26
‘Summer Coastal Getaway Decor Ideas ’ – Tameka Brice
When some think of Coastal Themes, the beach, sea, or soothing, tranquil moments come to mind. In design, many need to answer some questions when considering designing a coastal-inspired room. These questions include….What is my personal theme? Is it Nautical? Do I prefer rustic coastal? Am I a classic, clean-lined coastal type? Or, does the Mediterranean style catch my eyes? Once these questions are answered, we can let the designing begin!
The key to a stunning Costal Design is to mix pattern, color and textures. For furniture and flooring, use woven fabrics and materials such as burlap, jute, and cotton. Complimentary colors for this theme are whites, navy blue, beiges and corals. If you have a sofa or chair that does not meet the coastal theme, you can purchase slipcovers to set the stage for your seaside retreat. Ease and relaxation is the atmosphere you want to invoke, so use small strips and simple geometrics for pillows, soft throws, and rugs. Accessorize your space with popular coastal items of seashells, starfish, and clear vases with sand. Lighthouse and beach scene artwork add the finishing touches for this fun and delightful decor.
Home Decor Resources
If you are feeling like designing coastal for your home or one of your rooms but have no clue where to begin, there are several sources one can turn to. My personal favorites are Houzz.com, HGTV.com, HGTV, Olioboard.com, Pinterest.com, and several books and magazines that can be purchased at your local bookstore.
Ready, Set, Decorate
So, are you ready to design a coastal-themed room? I hope this article of ideas helped. One important thing to remember, decorating any themed room does not have to cost a lot. You should search your local inexpensive department stores and thrift shops. For a small inspiration, I want to welcome you to my Olioboard-themed coastal home. And remember—-HAPPY DECORATING!!!
