Tips to give your front door a facelift

Whether you want to revamp the entire door or just change up some key elements, here are some tips from resources around the web.

Refinishing

One of the best ways to update the look of your door is to refinish it. Select a location that is out of direct sunlight and be sure the weather is decent enough to leave the door open for a while. You will need to remove the door from the hinge. Scour off or strip off the peeling paint on the door. Sand down the surface. Next, apply two coats of an oil-based primer that is slow drying. You can then use an oil based pain or a latex topcoat. Try a different color or change up the stain color.

Changing Out The Hardware

If you like the color of your exterior doors, or if you still want to add something more to the look, change out the door locks and other hardware. Switching from silver to gold, for example, seems like a very simple change but it will make a dramatic difference.

Exterior doors are often forgotten. Yet, a simple change or facelift for the door will make a significant difference in the look of your home. Take into consideration the way your home looks from the street. Could your front door use a facelift? If so, exterior doors may be a good way to get started. – tips via

Paint your front door

Paint your front door. Brighten it with a new paint coat of its current color, or use a new hue. Paint the door trim white for a clean, fresh look, or choose a color that complements the door’s shade. Take the time to do the job correctly: Sand off the old paint, apply a primer, let the primer dry and apply the top coat of paint.

Remove old, damaged, outdated trim and surround your door with new, updated trim. Choose a style that goes well with the overall style of your home.

Add a faceplate and doormat

Add a faceplate or replace the existing faceplate. Replace the doormat with a new one. – tips via

Your front door is on its way to looking fabulous! You just may want to enter your home from the front door now instead of the garage! 🙂  (Or is that just at my home?)
