Guest Blogger: How to Brighten your Home with Creative Lighting Ideas

Guest Blogger #307, Entry #850, December 20, 2011

If you are looking to create a new look or style for one or more rooms in your home, you are likely to look for decorative furnishing that add character and atmosphere to each area. Choosing items to accent your sense of style and show your eye for interior design is a great way of injecting your home with new life and energy. When looking for ways to do this, consider the huge range of home lighting that is available for purchase today; there are lights in hundreds of forms, shapes and sizes. Here are a few ideas as to how you accompany each room of your home with some modern and stylish lighting!

The Bedroom

The bedroom is one of the few areas in our homes in which we are able to unwind and relax, and lighting you add to the room should reflect this fact. Adding light that is not too bright, and is of a warming tone can help to relax and get cozy after a long day. Having a stylish bedside lamp is a great way of having extra light if you should need it, and gives opportunity to continue the style of the bedroom by adding another matching feature.

For Kids

Kids love anything that is different and colourful. Add glowing lamps to their rooms which match the colour scheme and yet stand out as a lamp that would only fit in their room. Something of an unusual shape should be more than enough to please them and if it held more than one vibrant colour then they’d be sure to use it regularly. There are many lights and lamps on the market which are suitable for kid’s bedrooms, many of which can double up nicely as a night light.

The Bathroom

In your bathroom you have the opportunity to use brighter and more modern lighting. As the bathroom generally requires higher visibility for use of the mirror etc. you can consider spotlight bars, which have multiple lights mounted on them idea for changing the direction in which the light is emitted. Alternatively, if you would prefer a lower level of light in your bathroom you could consider purchasing an illuminated mirror, which combines style and practicality with ease.

Living room

Living rooms are generally where we spend most of our time whilst at home, so it stands to reason that adding stylish lighting is going to have the most impact on this room. Living rooms are ideal for wall mounted lighting; you often have longer, more spacious walls here so take advantage by choosing some well suited wall mounted lights. You can also add larger lamps in this room, tall lamps which match the colour and style of the room look fantastic so consider this before purchasing.

Kitchen

Kitchens benefit well from lighting which is fitted into the ceiling, it gives the ‘clear and clean’ look and the face that even the lights are neatly compacted into the ceiling can give this room a professional kitchen look. Strategically placing the lighting above your cookery are cannot only look great, but be hugely practical when preparing food by illuminating the area.
