With today’s modern printing technologies anyone can have a Rembrant or Mona Lisa artfully hung on their walls. Now-a-days the problem is not gaining access to the art, but how to properly hang the art once you have it in your home. Wall art can often be a challenge to hang. Whether you have a large or small wall, big or small artwork – how to display it can leave anyone apprehensive as to how to achieve a beautiful installation.

Here are some great tips to creatively hang your much-loved art in your home:
Collections:
One of the most popular ways to hang art is in a large collection. Whether you are hanging framed work, canvasrepublic.co.uk, fabrics, or more, there is a method to achieving a beautiful result. However, there are some tricks to pulling off a cohesive collected look. If you are going for a modern look, then art doesn’t need to all be the same or of the same category or topic, but your frames should be similar in color (preferably black). On the other hand, if you strive for an eclectic look try displaying a multitude of different frames, but then the photos should all be similar ie. All black and white, or all nature-inspired, or family inspired etc… So you see, no matter what your style, when putting a collection of art on your walls, you will need to have some form of cohesion.
Hanging:
Hanging art is often done wrong. Most people hang art too high. Think of an art gallery, you will want all your art to be hung at eye level for the ultimate viewing experience. Visitors in your home shouldn’t have to crane their necks to view your wall art. So maybe you are 6 feet tall, then how high do you hang it? Well, a modern rule is to hang your art approximately 60 inches from the floor to the center of the art piece. However, rules are meant to be broken, especially when it comes to hanging collections of art. A great modern way to hang a collection of art is from floor all the way to ceiling, one directly above the other in a perfect vertical line – breaking all the rules. This method draws the eye up and into a room, making it feel large and expansive.

You could also do the opposite with your collection by lining it horizontally along your long hallway, drawing the eye down the hall. Or if you want a fun, less formal look, then make your collection random by placing it up and down your wall with different size frames. Hint: for this type of hanging it is best to cut out paper matching the frame sizes and tape them on the wall first to make sure you have proper placement before hammering in a lot of holes.
Overall, have fun! Rules are meant to be broken, but try to have some form of cohesion to your collection.
