If you’re already thinking about some resolutions that you want to make as it relates to your own health and well-being, why not consider making a few improvements for your home as well? Being that it’s one place in life where you spend a consistent amount of time, as you are “upgrading your life”, it definitely couldn’t hurt to transition it a bit too.

So, what are some of the upcoming year’s top New Year’s Resolutions for home improvements? We’re glad that you asked and we have a few below that should make the next calendar year even better (for both you and your house):
Clean up the air.
Breathing is essential for all of us and so it’s very important that we make a concerted effort to take in quality air. You can do this by making sure that you have your central unit(s) serviced on an annual basis. You also need to have your air filters frequently changed, and it’s always beneficial to place portable air cleaners in the rooms that you most frequent. Another way to clean the toxins in the air that is much cheaper than all of the other recommendations is to purchase some indoor plants. There are many studies that support the fact that certain plants play a natural and significant role in purifying the air. Some relatively low-maintenance ones include the rubber plant, English Ivy and Boston fern.
Get rid of clutter.
If you’re really honest with yourself, you probably have a few rooms that have nothing but clutter and junk in them (even if it’s just the attic and/or basement). Not only can a lot of “stuff” prove to be aesthetically unattractive, but it can also prove to be a bit wasteful in the sense that your “junk” has to full potential to be someone else’s treasure(s). For this reason, set aside a couple of weekends to actually go through the boxes in the garage and the clothes in your closet. What you don’t want, either hold a yard sale to make a few extra bucks or give it away to your local thrift store or Goodwill. What you do decide to keep, if you’re not going to be using in over the next few months, put them in some eco-friendly storage boxes, label them and then put them in a room where they won’t be in the way of daily activity.

Plan for your “dream house”.
Even if you plan on retiring in your home, there is always room for improvement. Just like a vision board can help you to plan for your own future, you can also create a “dream house vision board” that can include all of the things that you would like to add to your home in the months and years to come, whether it’s an energy-efficient washer and dryer, some new bamboo flooring, a metal roof, some double-pane windows or even something as simple as planting a new tree or putting on a new coat of paint.
