Entry #1461, August 13, 2012

This summer, does it feel hotter than previous summers or is it just me? With talks about global warming and climatic changes, you can easily attribute the extreme summer heat to these topics. The scorching heat makes you feel very uncomfortable and irritable. It will wipe out your concentration and make you less productive, and let’s face it, it’s just unbearable!

This summer, keeping cool shouldn’t mean cranking up the air conditioning, which will in turn lead to a higher energy bill. But how can you stay cool? Well, here are some effective solutions to help you feel cool, that wont cost you money to reap the rewards!

Drink plenty of fluids

Our body is composed of at least 70% water. This makes us neutralize the heat from our environment. But with extreme heat, our body loses an ample amount of water that will lead to dehydration. To prevent this scenario, drinking plenty of water or any fluids like fruit juice or soda will help our body cool down. Well, water is the best solution for this problem. Also consider drinking flavored waters for variety.

Wear comfortable apparel

This is one of the best solutions for beating the heat this summer. Clothes that are lightweight and lighter colors should be considered. You can opt to also focus on the materials. For instance, you should prefer cotton, linen, silk and satin fabric for your clothes. Also, avoid using leather materials or thick fabric.

Open windows

It is very important to have proper ventilation in your home so that air can circulate. If it’s fine to open your door, you may do so. With your windows open, you will certainly lessen the buildup of heat in your home. For homes that are in high humidity areas consider using fans to circulate in your home and only cracking the windows, as humidity often makes you feel hotter.

Bathe more often

You can easily hydrate your skin through taking a shower or bath. This is one of the fastest ways to cool down your body temperature and eliminate the discomfort that is brought about by the heat. Outdoor showers are a great idea near a pool or deck to keep your family and guest comfortable while enjoying the summer sun.

Don’t let heat ruin your schedule and mood! Follow the above-mentioned solutions and you will surely have an enjoyable summer without spending money.
