Kitchen Decoration: Artwork that Doubles with Functionality

Entry #3209, January 22, 2014

To make a kitchen appealing it is not enough to just have beautiful cabinets and beautiful kitchen decoration. You will need some decorative items or artwork for that, too. But the most important thing in a kitchen is to be, practical, well-organized and clutter-free. This seems often impossible, especially if the kitchen’s available space is limited. But there is a way to achieve both, beauty and functionality, without going overboard with the budget; it just requires some clever choosing of items and display. Here are a few tips on how to do it.

Don’t hide the things you need, display them artfully

If you have some beautiful old silver- or tableware, trays or plates, don’t just hide them away; frame them! They can make such a stunning and artful décor. Also, hang kitchen utensils on the wall and place an empty frame around them. That way you’ll have instant kitchen wall décor, which enables you to see what tools you have available so you’ll never search again.

Kitchen decoration ideas:

Saucepans and pans are great to have them hanging also, either from the wall or from the ceiling. They give the kitchen a somewhat professional and artistic look.

If you think about having some posters or artwork hanging from a kitchen wall, keep in mind that you can use beautiful yet helpful images like conversion tables. With a nice frame that matches to your overall decor, you will for sure add to your kitchen’s appeal.

Use vintage items that are multifunctional

There are a lot of vintage or rustic looking items that can both add to the décor of the kitchen and have practical use.

Vintage scales are just perfect for such kitchen decorations. The good thing is that they also can provide a great space to store and display fresh fruits and vegetables. Beautiful dessert stands or bowls are ideal for such a use, too.

Also think about upgrading some old kitchen tools and giving them a practical feature as towel holders.

Choose items that add color

Colorful linens and aprons that are hanging from the wall ready to be used are a great way to add splashes of happiness to a kitchen.

Plants can as well make all the difference in a kitchen and add color and freshness. Have pots with useful herbs creatively displayed in beautiful baskets or pots.

Store kitchen food in clear glass containers

Clear glass containers such as mason jars, cloches or apothecary containers are just perfect to store dry food or fruits and can add character to the kitchen. They are ideal to hold lemons or oranges to add color. Vases can be used as well with wonderful results, even to hold kitchen tools.
