Entry #1537, August 31, 2012

Since I was young skin care has always been high on my priority list. Mainly because my mother, grandmother and relatives would instill in my sister and I to keep a clear complexion, drink plenty of water, get exercise and clean our faces regularly. Even with all that said, keeping a clear complexion was difficult for me.

With the introduction of Stagetecture’s “Wellness” category recently where we focus on your health, green living, and arming you with valuable wellness information, I thought pairing up with #Makari skin care to showcase some great products for individuals of color was important. Skincare for ethnic skin can often be a challenge especially for those who have combination skin like myself.

Makari skin care line – helping beautify skin for over 25 years.

Before I show you my great skin care experience I thought before I did this opportunity, “Do I want the entire world seeing my face without makeup?!” Then I realized this was a great way to get the word out about Makari, and especially for those who suffer with dark spots from acne scarring like myself! So before you try and send these pictures to a tabloid magazine – I beat you to it, and am showcasing my “No makeup” face to everyone on my own, ha!

On a normal day, my skin looks even — ahh the glory of makeup!

Makari Skin Care history

I had heard about Makari years ago, back in college when I went to Tuskegee University in Alabama. Many of my friends used it, and so did their Mother’s, but I always have just stuck with a cleanser from the health & beauty section of any local drugstore. While these have been ok – they didn’t help with dryness on my cheeks and oiliness on my nose, and I always have had to cover up my darker areas with makeup.

Makari has over 25 years of experience in the skin care industry and was started in Harlem, New York and later the products became formulated with a Belgain chemist and the products were produced in Switzerland: “… a country respected for high quality, while undergoing intense scientific and technical scrutiny, resulting in a formula combining luxurious caviar extracts and natural plant extracts.”

Today, the Makari skin care products are available worldwide, including Brussels, New York City, and Brussels.

My Makari Skin Care experience

When I was asked to pair up with Makari Skin Care, I jumped at the opportunity to try three of their best products.

I was invited to share 3 Makari skin care products

Google+ Album:

To see my entire experience from shopping online and receiving my products, to my pre-Makari face to the end, take a look at my Makari Google+ Album. It also will show you some great savings you can get online and even free samples are available. So take a look at the album!

Here am with my “Pre-Makari” face, ready to try the 3 products.

My skin has always been uneven – dark areas around my eyes and dark acne scarring is often a problem. So I was excited to try the Makari skin care line.

1.) Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap –

“The Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap is designed to effectively cleanse, brighten, and even tone the skin while providing resurfacing benefits. Gentle enough to use daily…”

You know that feeling on your skin when it’s “squeaky” clean? That’s how I felt after using the soap. I could feel the granules in it – gently exfoliating my skin and it smelled wonderful. I could see many using this soap on your entire body. Especially those that have uneven skin tones on their legs, arms, etc..

I first started with the soap, it smelled heavenly!

My daughter was making me laugh as I washed my face!

2.) Skin Repairing Clarifying Serum –

“The difference maker. The Skin Repairing & Clarifying Serum is a skin solution designed to help treat existing blemishes while preventing future discolorations and dark spots.”

I loved that the directions on the serum explains that only a small amount is needed for use on blemish scarred areas, dark spots on your face, elbows, knees and other areas that you want your skin to be lightened. The beauty of all these products is that they are made from natural extracts and are hydroquinone free, which can be harmful to many skin types.

The serum is very concentrated, so just a little drop for your dark areas!

3.) Body Beautifying Milk –

‘This body beautifying lotion is a 100% hydroquinone free , deeply hydrating, lightweight wonder designed to smooth the complexion while reducing the appearance of pigmented marks, discolorations and signs of premature aging.”

I loved how this lotion felt going on! Used after you clean your face with the Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap it went on smooth and didn’t feel greasy!

Lastly, I used the Body Beautifying Milk lotion… this product is what I remember many of my friends using in college.

After I was through with the regimen, my skin felt clean and refreshed. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and love how my skin feels clearer and actually smoother. Thanks Makari for this opportunity!

Every so often on Stagetecture, I like to take a break from the home related posts and highlight important architecture, artisans, and acts of man-kind that are inevitably shaping our history. Today, I am taking a closer look at the sculpture – the 30′ tall Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. statue that will be showcased at the MLK Jr., National Memorial in Washington D.C. on August 28th – the anniversary of his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.
