Even after the fading of summer blooms, you can keep your garden looking fresh and inviting until winter creeps up. You can easily handle your faded garden by embracing the changes in seasons. Transform the look of it by planting vegetables, flowers, and plants with rich autumnal colors and sculptural forms. Check these ideas to <a href="https://stagetecture.com/?s=gardening" target="_blank">give your garden an autumn lift</a>:</p>
<figure id="attachment_53292" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-53292" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/white-house-flowers-landscaping.jpg"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-53292" alt="white house flowers landscaping" src="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/white-house-flowers-landscaping.jpg" width="500" height="328" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-53292" class="wp-caption-text">Give your garden a makeover before the autumn returns</figcaption></figure>

<h3><strong>Create Blooming Corners</strong></h3>
<p>If your garden space is huge enough, you have the freedom to experiment with the plants and the garden décor. In case of a large garden, creating some small corners with colored plants and flowers will look really nice. Low-care plantings will be a great choice for such corners where you can make a mix-up of tough plants like blue fescue, daffodils, Joe Pye weed, blue caryopteris, and switchgrass. Try to use native plants, as they will need lower maintenance and be resilient to pest and disease problems.</p>
<h3><strong>Fill up the Bare Plant Beds</strong></h3>
<p>If you have plant or flower beds next to your front door, keeping them bare will be quite an eyesore. Turn the bed from an ugly thing to an eye-pleasing one by planting plants with multi-seasonal interest. Ornamental grasses, spring-blooming bulbs, Dwarf Alberta spruce, and some perennials and annuals will help looking your bed great all year long. Take care that the plants’ colors complement to the color of your home.</p>
<figure id="attachment_53128" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-53128" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/backyard-makeover.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-53128" alt="Add characters to your backyard garden. <p style="text-align: center;"><em>Image via: BHG</em></p>
<h3><strong>Spruce up the Backyard</strong></h3>
<p>Sprucing up the backyard will add resale value to your home, create an outdoor living space, and make the place more comfortable. Add characters to the place by designing a handy patio and setting up a tiny water feature. Fill up the place with careful selections of evergreen and various colorful plants. The water feature will make the place relaxing and likely to attract birds to your garden.</p>
<h3><strong>Create Small Focal Points</strong></h3>
<p>Instead of planting in the entire space of your garden, add visual interest by creating small colorful patches scattered through your garden space. To fill out such small spaces, choose easy, colorful plants like junipers, dogwood, spiraea, purple smokebushes, mums, etc. Create a borderline for every patch by planting pansies, placing small container plants, or ornamental grasses that will add texture to the spot too. These colorful patches will act as dramatic focal points and increase the value of your property.</p>
<figure id="attachment_53295" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-53295" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/autumn-garden-pathway-flowers-ideas.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-53295" alt="autumn garden pathway flowers ideas" src="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/autumn-garden-pathway-flowers-ideas.jpg" width="500" height="331" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-53295" class="wp-caption-text">Autumn garden pathway &#8211; use flower pots to create small focal points</figcaption></figure>

<h3><strong>Add Warmth for Colder Nights Ahead</strong></h3>
<p>Adding warmth to your garden will help you enjoying the outdoor space into the fall. Installing a fire pit or a fireplace into the screened porch or gazebo will let you relish the outdoor during the cold months. Fire pits are less expensive than fireplaces but produce more smoke. On the other hand, a patio heater will also be handy in this regard.</p>
<figure id="attachment_53129" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-53129" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/outdoor-fireplace.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-53129" alt="Setting up a fireplace will help you enjoying the outdoors during the cold months too. <p style="text-align: center;"><em>Image via: Landscaping Network</em></p>
<p>Late summer is the time to revamp the summer garden. Careful planting and makeover of your garden this time will help you having blooms and harvests throughout autumn and right into the winter months.</p>

<p>Are you wanting <a href="https://stagetecture.com/?s=gardening" target="_blank">fall colors in your outdoor home</a>? If so, now is the perfect time to start thinking of your fall garden. August is the right month to tackle your yard, turning it into a wonderful space to play, unwind, and entertain. If you can take care of your garden now, you will have a yard with full of color and texture.</p>
<figure id="attachment_53117" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-53117" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/seasonal-landscaping-ideas.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-53117" alt="seasonal landscaping ideas" src="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/seasonal-landscaping-ideas.jpg" width="500" height="329" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-53117" class="wp-caption-text">Seasonal landscaping for your outdoor home</figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>Image via: Matthew Cunningham Landscape Design LLC</em></p>
<p>To plan for your garden, you just have to know about a few things like the size of your garden, the amount of moisture and sun your space gets, and one or two other simple garden conditions.</p>
<h3><strong>When to Plant</strong></h3>
<p>The sowing of late season plants depends on the time that the plants take to reach a reasonable blooming or harvest size. You have to take notes of the first frost date in your region and the days to bloom/harvest imprinted on the back of each seed packet. Try to sow the seeds at a time that you can have the bloom or harvest before the frost comes.</p>
<figure id="attachment_53115" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-53115" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/autumn-gardening-ideas.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-53115" alt="autumn gardening ideas" src="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/autumn-gardening-ideas.jpg" width="500" height="734" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-53115" class="wp-caption-text">Autumn gardening ideas</figcaption></figure>

<h3><strong>Prepare the Lawn</strong></h3>
<p>As winter will show up after the autumn, your late summer gardening plan should include ideas for the cooler days and nights ahead. If you already have an established lawn, use higher dose of nitrogen fertilizer but keep the nitrogen level low if you want to set up a new lawn by sowing seeds. This time is excellent for establishing perennial ryegrass, bluegrass, and fescue.</p>
<h3><strong>Tips for Having a Good Bloom</strong></h3>
<p>If you like to set up a flower garden, you must want to have a good bloom of your planted flowers. Sometimes, flowers like hyacinths and tulips come up short because they need more chill time. For a beautiful and full-grown display after planting, refrigerate flower bulbs. Buy bulbs now and keep them in your refrigerator’s vegetables bin for minimum six to eight weeks. Plant them afterwards and you will see multitude of blooms in your garden.</p>
<figure id="attachment_52875" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-52875" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/crocosmia-flowers.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-52875" alt="Refrigerating the bulbs will result in such a bloom!" src="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/crocosmia-flowers.jpg" width="500" height="375" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-52875" class="wp-caption-text">Refrigerating the bulbs will result in such a bloom!</figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>Image via: Eslem Garden</em></p>
<h3><strong>Plan for Vegetables</strong></h3>
<p>Fresh peas, spinach, and lettuce are not just spring vegetables. You can plant a round of these favorites when temperatures become cool in late summer. The vegetables that you can try during fall are tomato, spinach, snow pea, cabbage, carrot, parsley, lettuce, bell pepper, green bean, broccoli, dill, cilantro, and other favorite items. Like summer, there is no or little possibility of rain during autumn. So, choose vegetables that grow well even without having plenty of water.</p>
<h3><strong>Consider Non-Flowering Plants</strong></h3>
<p>Many plants are there that bloom either in the late summer or in the fall. However, non-flowering plants can be too a great addition to your late summer garden. Some ornamental grasses are there that will definitely be an excellent choice for your fall garden. In fact, non-flowering plants will show you that you can enjoy lots of beautiful colors with plants that do not have flowers.</p>
<figure id="attachment_52876" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-52876" style="width: 500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/combination-of-flower+non-flowering-plants.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-52876" alt="A combination of flower and non-flowering plants will give your garden a beautiful look. " src="https://stagetecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/combination-of-flower+non-flowering-plants.jpg" width="500" height="288" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-52876" class="wp-caption-text">A combination of flower and non-flowering plants will give your garden a beautiful look.</figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em>Image via: The Big Plant Nursery</em></p>
<p>If you look closely, you will notice that the looks of your garden change from season to season. It may look great in one season but becomes dull in another. Only proper planning and its execution can help you maintaining the looks of your garden throughout the year.</p>
