Mothers Day Flower Supplies:

Tissues (For extra-fluffy flowers, use 3 ply)

Bobby pins

Markers

Scissors

Mothers Day Flowers Directions:

1. Place 2-4 tissues on top of one another. If you have 3 ply tissues, use 3.
2. Fold the tissues accordion style and clasp them with a bobby pin in the middle.
3. Pinch off the ends with your fingers then color them with a marker pen.
4. Separate each layer of tissue up to the center but be careful not to tear it. Start with the topmost tissue and work your way down. Repeat this process for the other tissues.
5. After you are done, fluff the tissues
6. Remove the fake flowers from the branches.
7. Pinch the bobby pins separately and wrap them with floral tape.
8. Place the bobby pins on the bare stems and wrap them with the tape. Make sure they are well hidden so only the flowers are visible.
9. Repeat the process for each flower until you create a bouquet.

Summer DIY Project: Round Paper Lantern Craft

Supplies

Rice paper

String

A round balloon

Water (for papier-mâché glue solution)

A battery-operated candle

Flour

Directions

1. Inflate the balloon and tie the string tightly on the tip. Suspend the balloon so you can access it from all sides.
2. Cut the rice paper into small strips (1 or ½-inch). Make sure they are long enough to cover the balloon from the top to the bottom.
3. Mix the water and flour to make a papier-mâché solution. Stir the mixture until it is devoid of lumps.
4. Immerse one strip of paper into the solution and remove excess solution by running the paper between two fingers.
5. Lay the strip crosswise on the balloon, starting with the middle part.
6. Repeat the same process for the other strips until you cover the balloon with strips.
7. Pop the balloon and remove it from the lantern.
8. Attach strings to both sides of the top opening for hanging.
9. Insert the battery-operated candle into the lantern.
10. You can secure the candle to the balloon with tape.
11. Repeat the entire process to make more lanterns.

Kids Craft – Summer Seashell Koalas

Materials:

Clam shells of different sizes and colors (preferably black and white)

Long razor clams (optional)

Small cowries (optional)

White glue

A wood or plastic base (or anything else that can support the weight of your shells)

Googly eyes or black beads

Polymer clay

Instructions

1. Using the clam shells, try out different combinations to create animal shapes. Use the polymer clay instead of glue as it is slightly sticky and pliable.
2. After you are satisfied with the shape, use the glue to attach the nose and ears. Choose a darker color for the nose so it is easily visible. For the ears, pick two similar clam shells.
3. Attach the googly eyes or black beads with glue. Place the craft on top of the base to dry.
4. To make trees for your koalas, attach the small cowries to the long razor clams.
5. After the glue dries, affix the legs. Leave the craft to dry then place it in your kid’s room.

• Wood picture frame

Start the Year Right: Make a New Years Resolution Tree

• Branches
• Paper
• Scissors
• Twine
• Marker
• Glass vase
• Stones

New Year’s Resolution Tree Directions:

1. Cut the paper according to your preferred shapes. Make sure they are big enough to write on.
2. Make holes on every piece of paper with the paper punch.
3. Cut the twine into small pieces and put them through the holes you made. Tie the ends.

Easy DIY Gift: CD Picture Frame

Things You Will Need

• An old CD. If the width of your picture frame is wide you may need more than one CD.
• Scissors or tin snips
• Tacky glue
• Tweezers
• A piece of thin cardboard or a piece of cereal box
• Black slick dimensional fabric paint

Instructions

1. Cut the CD into pieces using the scissors. Vary the shapes and sizes.
2. Apply the glue on the front part of the frame and spread it using the cardboard.
3. Use the tweezers to pick up the CD pieces and place them on the glued frame. Continue this process and leave space between each piece.
4. Put the CD pieces on every part of the frame until it is fully covered. Leave to dry.
5. Squeeze the paint onto a scrap paper to ensure it doesn’t come out with bubbles.
6. Fill in the spaces between the CD pieces with the paint. Keep the lines even.
7. You can repeat the lines to make them bold. However, make sure you don’t smear the previous lines.

DIY Christmas Gifts: Etched Candle Holders

Fast-acting etching cream

Glass candle holders (without any decorations)

Adhesive stencils

Candles

Paint Brush

Procedure

1. Place the adhesive stencils on the glass candle holders and smooth down the edges to prevent etching cream from slipping under them.
2. Inspect all the areas where the etching cream will be applied to ensure that the stencil has no gaps.
3. Put on your rubber gloves because etching cream can cause burns.
4. Place the drop cloth on a flat surface and begin applying the etching cream on the gaps in the stencil.
5. Leave the cream to dry for about 8-10 minutes.
6. Rinse thoroughly in water (with your rubber gloves on).

Easy DIY Craft: Decorating Coffee Mugs

• Oil-based permanent markers
• Plain mugs (without decorations)
• Adhesive stencils
• Oven
• Glass cleaner
• Lint-free cloth

Directions:

• Remove any labels or stickers on your mugs.
• Wash each of the mugs then scrub them with the glass cleaner.
• Wipe them with the lint-free cloth to ensure they are clean and shiny.
• Place the adhesive stencil on the mug and fill in the gaps with the marker. If you are decorating many mugs, repeat the process. Use different stencils for added appeal.
• Set your oven to 350ᵒF and place the mugs inside. Let them bake for 30 minutes. Turn off the oven and leave the mugs to cool (for more than 1 hour).
• Fill your mug with your favorite beverage and enjoy.

Holiday DIY Project: Ombre Vases

Supplies

• Glass vases or bottles
• White acrylic paint
• An acrylic paint of your choice (to create the darkest color)
• A small container to mix paint
• Mod podge
• Paintbrush

Directions

1. Remove labels from your bottles or vases. Peel the paper then soak the glass containers in warm water for approximately 20 minutes. Remove any residue with a scraper.
2. Pour the acrylic paint you’ve chosen into a container. Pour enough paint as you’ll use it for the entire vase or bottle.
3. Paint a strip on the bottom part of the bottle. Leave it to dry then add a second coat. If you want a darker shade, add a third coat.
4. Add a little white paint to the container and mix. Apply a second strip on the bottle on top of the first.
5. For a steady transition between shades, add a small amount of white paint each time.
6. Work your way up and continue adding a lighter strip until the vase or bottle is completely covered.
7. Once done, add a coat of mod podge to lock in the paint.
8. Repeat the process for other cylinders.
9. Put flowers, add water, and enjoy your new vases!
