We always hear about closet organization for kids and women, but rarely do you hear about mens closet organization. From the kitchen and living areas, to the garage and home office we always seem to forget to focus on the men. Yes, guys, lets face it – sometimes organization articles aren’t focused at you, and you have plenty to get organized! Take a look at these helpful mens closet organization tips.

Simple Tips for the Best Mens Closet Organization

[ad#co-1]

Closet Organization: Only Keep What You Need

One of the biggest problems facing men’s overstuffed closets is that they’re full of clothes the closet owner doesn’t need. Some people are simply lazy and haven’t cleaned out their closets in ages, while others are attached to certain garments or feel wasteful throwing out items that are not full of holes.

To organize your closet, take everything out and dump it on your bed; go through each piece of clothing one item at a time and assess when you wore it last. Apart from formal wear, if you haven’t worn something in one year and it’s in good repair, donate it to charity. Most charities will come to your door to pick up your castaways, so don’t think giving away your clothes is going to become an arduous chore you don’t have time for. Every year, repeat this process to make sure your closet stays organized.

Mens Clothes: Store seasonal apparel

Another way to organize your closet clutter is to store seasonal apparel. In the winter, take all your summer clothes and store them in a suitcase, then do the same in the summer with your winter apparel.

When you shop, throw out something old

Lastly, every time you go shopping and buy something new, get rid of another garment from your closet that’s looking a little old or is no longer trendy to ensure you maintain approximately the same volume of clothing.

Mens Closet Organizer: Hang like garments together

Stop wasting time rummaging around in your closet by using two simple systems that will help you retrieve individual garments. First, hang all garments that belong in the same category together — i.e., sweaters next to sweaters and dress shirts next to dress shirts. At all costs, avoid hanging clothes by color family. This system will simply make a big mess of your closet because people tend to think “I want to wear a sweater,” rather than “I want to wear something brown,” so use the more intuitive grouping system of clustering similar items together; this is the correct approach when figuring out how to organize your closet.

Sweaters:

For heavy sweaters that will stretch out if placed on a hanger or for cashmere and other delicate fabrics, you’ll definitely want a shelf, so get one immediately if your closet doesn’t have one built in.

Pants:

If you have two or more pairs of black pants or multiples of any other color of pants, use multitiered hangers to save space

Shoes:

Use a shoe rack so you can see all your footwear laid out instead of jumbled up. Make sure to buy a floor shoe rack, however, because the ones that hang over closet doors don’t provide proper support for men’s shoes. Squeeze as many shoes as possible onto your shoe rack by placing shoes in opposite facing directions.

We love these tips for Men’s closet organizational tips from Esquire magazine.

Closet Organization: Make small accessories visible

While it may seem like a good idea to place smaller accessories like ties, belts and the like in a drawer, the truth is that you might end up wearing them less often because when you can’t see them, you’ll forget you own them. Get the most out of your wardrobe by purchasing a set of hooks or even a small rack to throw over your door and hang your accessories. These sets can be extremely cheap, so don’t be reluctant to look for one even if you’re on a tight budget, and the ones that go over your door require absolutely no time or effort to install.

Is your home organization in need of an overhaul? Not everybody has the luck to have large rooms to use for storage around the house. But you can get the most out of even the tiniest storage room if you plan ahead and get organized. Here are a few tips on how to make storage home organization easy. Organizing your home shouldn’t be a major challenge when you’re armed with a strategy.

Home Organization: How to Declutter your Closets

Shelving helps this laundry room closet organization

Image via: Home Talk

[ad#co-1]

Closet organizers can go a long way!

The first thing you have to do is to take everything out of the storage room or closet, so you can get a clear look at it and its possibilities. Take detailed measurements of the room, writing down any niches or storage opportunities. Don’t forget about spaces above or behind the door. Take notes about the items you had in there that you will need to put back into the storage room. Look to closet organizers to help you take advantage of all the space you have. While you may think closet organization is hard, visit your local storage or big box store and look at all the possibilities.

Closet organization once you have measurements

Once you have made all measurements, it’s time to make a plan. Make a list of the things you want to store in the room and group similar items together. Take into account any items you took a note of in the previous step. Also, decide on what you want to use to store them. For example, do you want to use glass containers for your cereals or do you want to store them with their original boxes? Will you store tall items, like iron boards or brooms in this room? Answering such questions can help you making choices about shelving, containers or hardware items like hooks you may need to buy.

Home Organization Ideas: Choose the right storage utensils and shelving

Now it’s time to plan on how to best use your shelving and storage options. In your kitchen storage look to vertical shelving and organized closet tools such as hooks, shelves, and drawers. Depending on what you have decided in the previous step about what to store, you can make the right decisions about the various heights and depths your shelving needs to have. By having the right measurements, you can optimize the space you have at your disposal, just remember that you might not be able to see the items you have stored in the deepest parts of your shelves. A good idea to not lose sight of things you have stored is to use pull outs or lazy susans.

Home organization: Use only functional items in your closets

To optimize even the tiniest closets, make use of practical and clever utensils and furniture. Other than lazy susans, and pull out baskets, clear containers can help also not to lose sight of anything. Furthermore, use carts or boxes on wheels that can be easily pulled out of the way so you can reach even the deepest corners of the room. Pegboards can be great if you have a lot of smaller items you want to be able to quickly grab and use.

Need closet home organization ideas for your reach-in closets?

Take a look at how to find more storage in your reach-in closet.

Looking for hidden storage in your closet? A well-organized closet is a productive way to start a day. Imagine how much time you save getting your personal items in your closet because you have them arranged properly. Other than saving your time, you also save your mood from getting frustrated because you cannot locate a certain thing in your closet.

Organizing your closet needs as much storage as possible. You can’t just have all your items in one box. There should be divisions, shelves and drawers available. These storages will allow you to categorize everything that you need to place in your closet.

If you feel you need more storage, here are some ideas on how to find hidden storage in your reach-in closet:

Hidden Storage Trick: Move up the bars

The purpose of this idea is to have available space below for some clothes. This can maximize the space at the bottom by elevating the bars high enough for you insert the clothes for hanging. Then, pile up some clothes or accessories below. Maintain a pleasant arrangement by having it stack according to type, color or style. We love these closet organizers from the Container Store.

[ad#co-1]

Closet Organization Trick: Stack clothes higher

It will help you maximize the space if you choose to pile your clothes high. The elevation will allow you to occupy as much space as possible without leaving a space behind. But you have to make sure that you arrange your thing properly to avoid clutter as you take them away. You can have the frequently used things on top for easy access. Just like pantry storage in your kitchen when you install more shelves?

Hidden Storage Idea: Use boxes to save space

This idea is not just for your shoes but for accessories as well. Having storage boxes for these items will definitely provide better accessibility and pleasant look in your closet. Make sure to get a storage box that can fit in your closet and can be stacked or joined together.

Make the best of the available space in your closet by following these ideas.

Organizing the closet needs time, energy, and patience. As a thumb rule, choose one closet at a time and move to the next one only when you are completely done with the first. Begin with emptying the entire closet and pull out everything that’s inside. Then pile the contents according to their categories-shorts, shirts, t-shirts etc.

Reach in closet organization is great for smaller spaces

[ad#co-1]

Store Off-Season Clothing Elsewhere

Before you can even think about getting your fall/winter clothing organized you need to create space for them. The easiest way to do that is to tuck away summer clothes in a separate place. Store those sundresses, shorts, linens, and other hot weather items on higher shelves, in your basement or attic, or under the bed.

Storage trunks are ideal for keeping off-season clothing away from valuable closet space.

Go through your closets and try clothes on

While this may sound very monotonous, doing so can help to make purging decisions easier. Just remember to be honest when you try the items on. Does that sweater or top fit your well? Is there a small hole in that shirt that you have been meaning to mend for ages? Clothes that don’t make you feel good aren’t really worth your valuable closet space. So depending on the condition of the item, donate or toss them.

Donate unwanted clothing

Arrange Items by Category

When it comes to cooler weather organization, keeping pants with pants, shirts with shirts, sweaters with sweaters and so on is the perfect strategy. Especially with accessories that are easy to lose such as caps, gloves, and scarves. We recommend using clear bags or boxes to store smaller items so that you can see what’s exactly inside.

Consider grouping your items throughout your closet.

This fall, use these simple closet organization tips to give your wardrobe a changeover so that you can find your items easily and effortlessly. So, go get started and conquer the overwhelming giant called closet.

Attics make great places to store holiday decorations, off-season clothing, empty boxes and more. In fact, it can be one of the best storage spaces if kept organized and orderly. Luckily, it’s not very difficult to get yours into shape so that everything is accessible and you don’t trip over scattered items each time you go up there. Here are some organization tips that will help you bring order to disorder.

Organization Tips: How to Organize Your Attic

Attic Organization Tips

Image via: Remove and Replace

[ad#co-1]

Access the clutter

The first step towards organizing is to clear everything out. As a rule of thumb, if you don’t need it toss it. Don’t just keep the excess for the sake of keeping it. Remember you don’t need the clutter; you need extra storage space to organize. Start by creating three categories: keep, toss, and donate. As you work through the items in your attic, assign each item to a category. If you rarely use something, it’s probably a good candidate to either toss or donate. Everything that you decide to keep, wipe down, clean, and make sure it’s in working order.

Add some extra storage space

Attic clothing ideas

Image via: Organizing Ideas

If you have the right type of walls and the space allows, add shelving. It can be a great place to store items that need to be easily accessible. Additionally, clothing rods between the rafters can help you store winter coats and other off-season clothing without using premium floor space.

Pick right storage boxes

Pick right storage boxes

Image via: Squidoo

Cardboard boxes, no matter how strong and sturdy, bend and dent when used frequently. Instead, opt for plastic containers which will help to protect the items better, and are easy to move around the shelves. However, make sure they aren’t too big. Also, give anything that’s not easily identifiable a clear label.

Take it slow

It’s very easy to get down a couple of boxes in one go so you don’t have to keep climbing up the attic ladder. But remember, you will have to put them somewhere. And it’s much easier to deal with 2-3 boxes at a time than your entire attic all at once. So work in small quantities, give yourself some break, and keep at it.

Attic closet ideas

Image via: The Examiner

Organizing an attic for proper storage can be a challenge as it’s a natural repository for everything from off-seasonal clothing to heirlooms. Keep it arranged and orderly by following these organization tips and do let us know how you managed?

Let me begin by asking you a question. What is that one area of your house where you go to unwind and relax? Your bedroom of course! And what if it is always cluttered and messy? It won’t serve the purpose right! All I am trying to emphasize is that bedroom organization is perhaps one of the most important aspects of home organization as that is where you recharge yourself. Let me bring to you a few ideas that will help you reorganize and transform your personal space into a truly relaxing one.

Home Organization: Reorganizing Your Bedroom Storage

[ad#co-1]

Using Your Nightstand Well

I am all for nightstands with storage, more so if you happen to be a book lover. Often we carry books to bedroom to relax and enjoy but sooner or later they start collecting dust for the lack of book storage space in your bedroom. Nightstands, I feel fit the role perfectly for two reasons. First, they are just besides your bed so your reading material is just an arms length away and second, you anyways need a small space for a couple of books that you are currently reading and a nightstand provides just enough space for that.

Getting Jewelry In Place

Another source of clutter in the bedroom is the dresser. Jewelry often lies scattered amongst the other stuff on the dresser and alas the accessory that beautifies us the most becomes a reason of mess in the bedroom. Jewelry lying inside the drawers is often forgotten, hence it is a good idea to have your colorful accessories displayed on the wall by your dresser. So, not only you have a well kept, ‘in your view’ jewelry but you also get colorful wall art for free.

A Console For Home Organization

Bed linen is another source of clutter and mess. Having a little trunk or a console by your bed can help you put stuff away but still have it at a hands reach. During the daytime you can put in your sheets and extra cushions inside the console and pull them out when you need them at night.

A Dedicated Place For Shoes

The first thing one does before relaxing is removing one’s shoes. Footwear is often left on the floor by itself or pushed underneath the bed. Having a shoe rack exclusively for shoes will help you keep your footwear in order and the best part is that you will find the pair you are looking for just in time! Another tip, keep charcoal in your shoe cupboards as it absorbs all the bad odor from the shoes.

An Area Often Neglected

Home organization is all about finding storage and keeping things in order. Homeowners for long have forgotten about the space behind their beds. That is an area which I feel has yet not been exploited to its full potential. Have a look at the image below and see how much storage can actually go behind your bed! You might not need any more cupboards in fact.

Bedroom organization is a critical part of home organization. After all if there is no peace of mind how will you run the house? Having a bedroom in place is half the battle won. These days baskets are being used big time. You can use organizersand baskets within your closets to have a more compartmentalized and organized cupboard arrangement. Do share if you have any more smart ideas to put your bedroom in order. Its always a pleasure to hear from you.

Is getting your little one dressed in the morning a regular battle? Do you wish that your kid’s clothes, blankets, and shoes were more accessible? If yes, it’s definitely time for some organization. When your kid’s closet is organized, not only will it be easier for them to dress, you will also end up saving many precious minutes off your morning routine. So, try these organization tips to calm clutter and bring order to your kids’ closet.

Organization Tips: How to Organize Your Kids’ Closet

Organization Tips for Kids’ Closet

Image via: BHG

[ad#co-1]

Declutter

Remove everything out of the closet and sort into piles. Get rid of items that your child does not wear or is not likely to use. Make sure to be ruthless here. The worn out ones can be thrown away and the better ones can be donated.

Organized Closets Save A Lot Of Hassle

Image via: Real Simple

Install a Few Hooks

If there are some items that your kid wears all the time or uses regularly, there is no reason to keep it out of reach or sight. Instead, install a few hooks on the side so that your little one can grab those things and go. On the contrary, if there are things like off-season clothes and accessories that you don’t want your child to have easy access of, go ahead and put them out of reach like on the top shelf.

Hang Clothes in Pairs

Image via: Strawberry Swing and Things

Hang Clothes in Pairs

Instead of hanging a single piece of clothing, consider matching up your child’s outfits on every hanger. Not only will it help young kids make independent clothing choices, it will also free up a lot of valuable closet space.

Lower the Clothing Bar

Reaching high clothing bars can be a trouble for little ones. So, consider remounting them to within their reach. Alternatively, a step stool inside the closet is a great idea for kids who need extra height to reach their clothing.

Lower the Clothing Bar

Image via: Ruffles and Stuff

Use Boxes and Baskets

Incorporate boxes and baskets of various shapes and sizes for additional storage space. They make a great storage system for toys, folded clothes, and shoes. Irrespective of your shelving options, there is sure to be something to fit. Thrift and dollar stores are usually great places to find such items on cheap.

Lastly, make sure to reorganize often. As kids outgrow things very quickly, it’s important to sort out and tidy up at regular intervals. Moreover, a clean closet can help lead to a clean bedroom.
With most of the country experiencing colder weather, it can mean long days and weekends spent indoors. But the good news is that it gives everyone time to get caught up on that long put off list of household chores. In particular, finally taking a look at that overstuffed wardrobe. Luckily, these easy closet cleanup tips will help you get it done in a snap. Closet organization shouldn’t be difficult and if it becomes overwhelming, stretch out the decluttering over a period of days.

Simple Closet Organization Tips for your Home

Organize your closets this season

Image Via: LA CLoset Design

Try Everything On:

While this may seem like an unnecessarily gargantuan task, doing so can make decisions clear. As you try items on, remember to be honest. Does your sweater have a few small holes that you’ve been meaning to mend for ages? If you wear that top, are you constantly going to be tugging at it to have it fit the right way? Clothes that don’t make you feel confident aren’t worth your time or your valuable closet space.

Donate unwanted clothing

Image Via: Real Simple

Use the Three-Pile Method:

Use the three-pile method to make dispersing unwanted clothing easier. Create a keep pile, donate pile, and throwaway pile in distinct places throughout your bedroom. Then, when you finish trying items on, put them in the appropriate it place. Once you finish corral the items into separate trash bags, take unusable items to the curb, and find a charity or thrift store in need of the rest.

Design your closet for beauty and functionality

Image Via: Deluscious Cookies

Keep Track of Item Usage:

As you put the clothing that you’re keeping back into your closet, take the opportunity to make your next closet cleanout even simpler. Put a system in place to keep track of items that don’t get worn. You’d be surprised at how many must-have wardrobe pieces end up languishing in the back of the closet. It can be as easy as turning your hangers backwards. Then, after you wash a piece of clothing, reverse the hanger. By the time you do your next closet purge, anything still on a backwards hanger can be given away.

Try these easy closet cleanup tips will help make your next clean out a little less overwhelming. Go for it! Who knows, you may even find a few hidden gems that you’d forgotten about. Let us know these Simple Closet Organization Tips for your Home helped you.

Entry #2683, July 25, 2013

When purchasing an outfit, shoes or accessories you don’t think about the clutter that can accumulate when we take them off and toss them in your closet at home. Organization in your wardrobe closet is essential, but it’s often hard to achieve. You do not have to constantly get up and travel through your clothes just to get to the door or stumble over shoes that are on the floor within the closet just to get a jacket. So take a look below and discover some ways to help you clean-up and structure your apparel.

For the Hanging Space

When hanging your clothes you want to keep in mind that the space should have function and beauty working side by side. So in some cases dividing the long hanging spaces in a two bars (if possible) to hang shorter garments within your closet is a good idea. Not only will this help to house more clothes but it can create a versatile arrangement for the space. Also depending on the type of clothing you can change the hanger and hanger color for more mix-up variety.

Organizing your shoes and hats with hanging solutions

Image via: VT Custom Closets

[ad#co-1]

Fold the Clothes don’t Pile

Sometimes our folded clothes can become mountains of piles instead of stacks of folds. To reverse this issue keep it simple, flip over a deep shelf using the built-in brackets as dividers and separate the sweaters from the shirts, the shirts from the undershirts and so forth. Another way to add more space for your tops is to take out the bottoms, like your jeans. Take the jeans that you have separated and hang them on the wall by their belt loops with S-hooks so you can have a grab and go effect. Also roll the casual pants and place them in the slots of a shoe organizer.

Spaces for Folded Clothes

Image via: Cardigan Empire

Shoes & Boots

When you are organizing your shoes you need to have the Missouri state slogan, “Show Me.” Technically all of your shoes should be off the floor for easier access and angled shelves usually work best because they give a tilt that forces the shoes to be visible. More storage places for your shoes are with cubby holes or shelves with stackable plastic boxes. A few tips for boots are to keep them vertical (less space is use and helps them to stay in great condition) and keep them suspended in the air (use mini clip style hangers or sturdy steel over the door racks).

Organized Shoes

Image via: Shoe Club

Make Your Bags a Statement

Again this is similar to the organization of your shoes. Set up your bags as works of art. Snag the ideas from boutiques and display your bags behind glass from a revamped china cabinet or curio case so they can remain dust-free and stylish for your home. For clutches, use Lucite dividers in the closet that way they are propped up and kept looking nice.

handbag organization ideas

Image via: Purse Blog

So try some of these ideas the next time you need organization in your closet areas. Your wardrobe is one of those areas in your home that will help you get out of the house on time in the morning if it’s organized and it will keep your home feeling complete!

Does your current home office look a little chaotic? Get it organized and save space with a mini-closet remodel! A fantastic solution for small spaces, closet offices are budget-friendly, completely customizable, and absolutely stylish. You can turn almost any existing closet into a personal workspace for your crafts, computer, and more with the right supplies.

3 Easy & Creative Steps to a DIY Closet Office

Home closet office idea

Image via: Modern Craft Construction

[ad#co-1]

Step 1: Choose a closet

You’ll need a closet that isn’t being used. Guest bedroom closets, hall closets, and even pantries can become organized offices. With a little planning, try to move items from your potential work closet into others areas of your home. This is a great excuse to finally get around to that spring cleaning…

Use an extra closet as an office!

Image via: Johnson Hardware

Step 2: Plan your space

Will this closet be your new sewing room? An office with a computer? Decide what you will use the space for, and evaluate everything that needs to fit inside. Before going shopping, look online at some types of storage solutions; you may find the perfect little gadget to hold spools of thread! If you don’t know where to begin, just ask. The Container Store offers both DIY and supervised closet design assistance through their elfa Design Center. Vertical space is key: if you need a desk, add shelving, hooks, or boxes above the desk to maximize storage.

home office niche idea

Image via: Mercedes Corbell Design + Architecture

Step 3: Decorate

Once you have the storage solutions down, start thinking style. To save more space, take down bi-fold, sliding, or outward-opening doors and replace them with colorful curtains for extra punch. To do this, either use a tension rod or mount a regular curtain rod above the inside molding of your closet and hang curtains that fall from the top of the frame to the floor. Whatever state of chaos your workspace is in, the curtains will disguise it with style!

Inside the closet, paint the walls a bright color (white works great, too) to make the small space look larger. Use plenty of lighting; have an electrician add a light fixture inside the closet, or use a bright desk light. Color-coordinated office supplies, decorative and functional corkboards, and a motivational quote will finish the space get you excited to work from your new office!
