Is one of your New Year Resolutions to cook more this year? If it is, you need to make this winter dessert. It has a simple procedure and you can make it on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Walnut honey cake goes well with a cup of coffee and can also be taken after meals. You will love making it because it only needs a few basic ingredients. Arm yourself with this recipe from Martha Stewart to make it like a pro.

Winter Dessert: Walnut Honey Cake Recipe

Pour honey on top for added flavor

[ad#co-3]

Ingredients

¼ tsp. of ground ginger

¼ tsp. of salt

¾ tsp. of baking soda

1 cup of sweetened applesauce

1 cup of raw honey and 2-3 tbsp. for glaze

1½ cups of flour and a little extra for the cooking pan

Unsalted butter at room temperature

3 large eggs

3 ounces of halved walnuts (approximately ¾ cup)

Procedure

Preheat your oven to 350ᵒ. Spread the walnuts to cover the base of a baking sheet. Place the sheet in the oven and toast the walnuts until they produce a lovely aroma, tossing them occasionally.

Transfer the nuts to a plate and leave to cool. After they cool, put them in a food processor and grind until they are finely chopped. Remove them and set aside.

Apply butter and a little flour on your baking pan and set aside. Mix the applesauce and honey in a bowl until the honey dissolves. Add the eggs and whisk until they blend with the mixture.

In a separate bowl, sieve the flower, baking soda, ginger, and salt. Add the mixture to the honey concoction then add the walnuts.

Pour the cake mixture into the prepared pan and bake until it turns golden brown (for about 55 minutes).

Remove the pan from the oven and put it on a wire rack. When the sides of the cake begin to dislodge from the pan, remove it.

Place the cake on a serving plate and spread the extra honey on top. Serve.

Walnuts are the pièce de résistance in this winter dessert. They give the cake more flavor because they are toasted. You can serve your cake with sour cream or cremé fraiche. Walnut honey cake is moist and soft, not overly sweet to put off those who don’t have a sweet tooth. Take it with tea in the morning, enjoy it as a mid-morning snack, or eat it in the evening after dinner. Either way, you will love it!

We all remember going to the summer county fair or festival and enjoying cool treats to eat. Enjoying the company we came with, riding all of the rides, and most importantly eating the delicious foods. Now if you went in the late afternoons going into the evenings then the heat wouldn’t be as much as it would be in the late morning early afternoon. Now, if you were like me then early morning and late afternoon was when we went. After spending a few minutes (that felt like hours) in the sun, we probably felt like kicking ourselves for going in the smoldering heat.

However, there would be a silver lining in the dry atmosphere and it would be a Snow Cone Stand ready for the taking! So discover you cooling agent for this summer and create your own Snow Cone! They are truly a delight and will not take long to make. Just follow the directions and enjoy!

Ingredients

Ice

Food processor

Snow Cone Syrup Ingredients

2 cups of White Sugar

1 cup of Water

1 (.13 ounce) package f Unsweetened, Fruit-Flavored soft drink mix

Snow Cones on Ice

Image via: Betty Crocker

Directions

For Snow Cone

Fill the food processor with ice. Process the ice until it is very fine, like snow.

Begin to scoop the snow ice into cups (glass, plastic, paper), fill the cup to the top and set them on ice or in the freezer.

For the Syrup

Take a saucepan, and stir together the sugar and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, and boil for about 1 minute.

Remove from heat, and stir in the drink mix. Give some time to allow the combination to cool and store in a container for pouring. Pour over shaved ice to flavor.

If you want more natural flavors then take some of your favorite fruits and pulse them in a blender with the ice and pour into a dessert glass. You will still get a similar effect!
