Have you thought about decorating ideas now that the New Year is here? After the festive season has come and gone, you have to rearrange your home. When your family and friends go back to their homes, the clutter remains. If you value space – as does every homeowner – you will need to get rid of unused items to make room for useful ones. Look to these tips for home organization and decorating ideas after the holidays. Your home decor can help you with creative storage solutions such as a storage ottoman or a nesting side table with drawers for remote controls.

Home Decor: Decorating Ideas for an Organized Home

[ad#co-1]

Home Organization – Get Rid of Holiday Clutter

Over the holidays, your family gets a lot of presents – food gifts, toys, tech gadgets, and even clothes. Tell everyone in your home to get a garbage bag and put in all the items they don’t need. You can donate them to a local charity or a donation site.

If you have lots of Christmas decorations, decide whether you want to keep them all. Sort them and give the ones you don’t want to Goodwill or your local thrift shop. Store useful decorations in clear plastic containers for easy access. You can use plastic tubs as they hold more items.

Cleaning Tips: Renew your Dining Table & Furniture

Heavy entertaining can take its toll on your dining table. After the holiday parties, your beautiful table may be covered in smudges, nicks, dirt, and a lot more. The harsh winter weather can also wreak havoc on it, leaving it looking dull. Dust, shine, and recondition your dining table with a gentle detergent. Choose one that protects wood from wear and tear and use it to clean your other wood furnishings.

Odor Eliminator: Get Rid of Unwanted Smells

While rearranging your home might be your first priority, holiday smells can linger long after you’ve cleaned. Your house can smell of visitors’ perfumes and pungent holiday dishes. To ensure you get rid of these smells, use a deodorizer or a natural scent like cinnamon. You can also light scented candles. Put flowers in vases and place them throughout your home. The kitchen, bathroom, children’s play areas, and laundry room are often the culprits of stray and foul odors. Look to these rooms first.

Nothing feels as good as starting a new year in a condition of organized optimism. Before you become engrossed by the activities of January, take time to reorganize your home. Implement a few organizational strategies to ensure you get back on track quickly. You never know, these decorating and organization tips may be the best gift you give yourself this New Year!

How will you start to declutter your home this New Year?

Home staging tips can often be a challenge when you’re preparing to sell your home. Getting to terms with a house for sale can be difficult. Especially if the home has a great many memories attached to it. But, once you have made the decision to let go of it, it is time to look ahead and prepare the house for a sale. The most important aspect of home staging is de-personalizing it. This will allow prospective buyers to visualize themselves in the house without any obstructions.

Home Staging Tips: How to De-Personalize your Home

Here are three steps to de-personalize your home:

1. Remove all personal effects

The very first step to de-personalizing your home is to remove all personal effects like photographs, framed wall art and knick knacks that you may have used to decorate your home. Give your prospective buyers a blank canvas so they can see themselves living in the house. If there is anything in the house that you will take away to your new home, like a vintage chandelier, remove it before the scheduled house inspection.

[ad#co-1]

2. Refresh the house with paint

A coat of paint on your exterior home and interiors will give your house a fresh, new appeal. There is nothing that refreshes the interiors like paint. It is a cheap and quick solution. Neutral colors are your safest bet when re-painting. Remember that your favorite radiant orchid paint color might not fancy the prospective buyer. Paint the kid’s room in bright colors.

3. Clear out the storage

Storage in the new house will of great importance to most prospective buyers. Expect them to look into drawers and open your closets. Remove all your personal belongings from the storage area. If you are still living in the house, consider packing them into boxes and placing them in the garage or hire a small storage space. Anything left in the closets and drawers should be placed neatly.

Give your house a welcoming feel. Make the house visually appealing but the décor should not reflect your personal taste. The potential homeowners should be able to visualize themselves in the house and should not feel as if they are intruding on your personal space.

The changing of the season is the perfect time to get your closets organized. While you may still be in denial that the cooler weather is almost upon us, your wardrobes can’t be. That’s why we bring to you these closet organization tips from the past that will ensure a smooth seasonal transition. Take a look!

Round Up Ideas: Closet Organization Tips for Cooler Weather

Organizing the closet needs time, energy, and patience. As a thumb rule, choose one closet at a time and move to the next one only when you are completely done with the first. Begin with emptying the entire closet and pull out everything that’s inside. Then pile the contents according to their categories-shorts, shirts, t-shirts etc.

Reach in closet organization is great for smaller spaces

[ad#co-1]

Store Off-Season Clothing Elsewhere

Before you can even think about getting your fall/winter clothing organized you need to create space for them. The easiest way to do that is to tuck away summer clothes in a separate place. Store those sundresses, shorts, linens, and other hot weather items on higher shelves, in your basement or attic, or under the bed.

Storage trunks are ideal for keeping off-season clothing away from valuable closet space.

Go through your closets and try clothes on

While this may sound very monotonous, doing so can help to make purging decisions easier. Just remember to be honest when you try the items on. Does that sweater or top fit your well? Is there a small hole in that shirt that you have been meaning to mend for ages? Clothes that don’t make you feel good aren’t really worth your valuable closet space. So depending on the condition of the item, donate or toss them.

Donate unwanted clothing

Arrange Items by Category

When it comes to cooler weather organization, keeping pants with pants, shirts with shirts, sweaters with sweaters and so on is the perfect strategy. Especially with accessories that are easy to lose such as caps, gloves, and scarves. We recommend using clear bags or boxes to store smaller items so that you can see what’s exactly inside.

Consider grouping your items throughout your closet.

This fall, use these simple closet organization tips to give your wardrobe a changeover so that you can find your items easily and effortlessly. So, go get started and conquer the overwhelming giant called closet.

It is not the first time that we are sharing a bunch of bathroom organization ideas with you. This roundup would be useful for owners of small bathrooms as well as those who own more square footage. It will help you use every bit of space possible without cluttering your bathroom. So, take a look and don’t let clutter and disorganization take over your space.

Round Up Tips: Easy Bathroom Organization Ideas

Get Rid of Unused Items

[ad#co-1]

The first step to organization in any space is to declutter. As messy or overstuffed place cannot be tamed easily, get rid of items that are useless, expired, or outdated. Just make sure to purge ruthlessly and throw away anything that you no longer use because these things become less effective over time.

Create More Space with Baskets and Pockets

For a fun, inexpensive storage solution, take towels and piece together a hanging organizer. This will help you to create more space for those little toiletries. If you have towel rods you can also create more storage space by hanging small baskets on them. Alternatively, you can place them under the sink.

Utilize Over Head Storage

The wall area above your head is the storage space waiting to be used. Haven’t considered it yet? We thought so! You can install some hardware like inexpensive metal racks in order to store your essential items overhead. And the best part is it is just at a hands reach.

Divide the Storage Space

Organization becomes tougher when there are more than one people using the bathroom. If yours is the same scenario, divide up the storage areas evenly to cater for your belongings. Select a drawer, cupboard space, and shelving that you will each own for toiletries and other items. This way each individual can be held accountable for organizing their storage spaces.

Use these bathroom organization ideas and get amazed at how spacious and inviting your compact space can feel. The overall idea here is to figure out the dead unused spaces with a creative eye and then turn it into useful ones. Have more smart storage and organization tips? Share them through comments.

There are creative ways to get your kids organized this holiday season. Kids have so many toys, clothes, and stuff that their bedroom looks like tornado-ravaged most of the times. Kids’ bedroom is not just a sleeping place. It is the place where they play games, do homework, make artworks, and do other stuff. Seasonal events like holidays are great occasions to motivate the kids to get organized.

Helpful Ways to Organize Kids’ Rooms for the Holidays

Check out these easy-to-follow tips:

An organized and clutter-free kid’s room.

Image via: Pottery Barn

[ad#co-1]

Donate and Declutter their Room

A great way to start the organizing process will be to sort out the toys, clothes, books, and other stuff that are not necessary. Donate them to who are in needs. However, you should not just take these things away from your children. Gently explain to them that Christmas means sharing with and caring for others too. You can also tell them that Santa will give their donated items to other children. After convincing them, donate all the unnecessary items to children charities.

Involve the Kids in Organizing

It might seem easier to do the cleaning and organizing works alone. However, you should involve the kids in this process too so that they can learn about organization skills and maintenance methods. Take their advices on what is causing them problem, what is working, and what is not. If they understand the process, they can greatly help in maintaining an organized room.

Dividing the room into several parts and organizing accordingly will make your job easier.

Image via: Decor Report

Divide the Room into Sections

After decluttering the room, your next job is to divide the room into several parts like sleeping area, play area, study desk, reading nook, etc., and organize accordingly. A tiny cabinet or shelf should be placed near to the bed so that you can place the alarm clock, clip-on task lamps, and other accessories there. A cabinet should be there to hold the children’s clothing and shoes and the drawers under the bed can keep the extra bedding and out-of-season clothing.

The play area should have separate and enough storage to hold all their toys, art papers, crayons, painting brushes, and color pencils. The activity table should have built-in storage too. One or two canvas bins can act as the quick solution to place toys and other stuff when in a hurry while buckets or pails will be great for holding crayons, pencils, and erasers.

A tiny reading nook can also be created with a small cushion, two or three soft pillows, and a shelf. The shelf will keep the books in place while the cushion and pillows will make the reading enjoyable. Dividing the room in such different parts will make your organizing job easier. If the room is not big enough, multifunctional furniture will solve your problem.

Think of smart storage solutions for your kid.

Image via: Home Goods

Do not forget that you are organizing the place for children. So, the size of the storage and furniture should be fitting to your child’s height. In addition, label the drawers and baskets so that your children can easily understand which is kept where. Use graphic labels for young children. It will help them to keep the place organized.

If your home needs an updated look, there are so many ways you can approach the route of contemporary design. Here are some creative ways of transforming tired and jaded interiors into something modern and inspiring.

Create an inspiring living room

Image via: Mosaic Architects Boulder

[ad#co-1]

Contemporary Living Room Design Tips:

Choose light colours for your walls – creating the illusion of more space can often open up a room and make it feel fresher, brighter and much more contemporary. This creates the perfect blank canvas for you to add your own modern touches such as artwork and slick design features.

Choose bright or contrasting colours for your decor –

A simple, fresh and modern look can be easily achieved by the use of a bright colour theme. If you have light or neutral walls, choose one of two key shades to create a ‘colour pop’ effect.

Use mirrors to reflect light –

Another great lighting trick is using mirrors to reflect natural light around the room. This will make your home look and feel much more spacious, giving you a larger space to be creative with. Mirrors also make very stylish design features and can create a nice focal point in your living room.

Invest in smart storage solutions –

Having smart storage solutions such as hidden cupboards or under sofa storage units can help you clear the clutter. Modern design often works in elements of minimalism or ‘deconstructivism’ and to achieve these looks, it’s important to keep your living room clean and tidy.

Create a living room that represents your style

Image via: Weiss Design Group, Inc.

Get a corner sofa –

Large corner sofas are extremely stylish and modern. Not only do they form an extremely interactive setup in your living space, but they look up to date with the latest interior design trends. They are also very flexible, giving you the options to create central seating in the middle of the room, or used traditionally in the corner of the room.

Get feature light fittings –

One of the easiest ways to get that contemporary design look is to use your light fittings as a feature in the room. There are so many different designer fittings available and they can be just as inspiring and unusual as artwork.

Shop for modern art –

Nothing makes a room more inspiring than the addition of artwork. Whether you’re a fan of acrylic paintings or you love weird and quirky sculptures, there are so many ways you can modernize your living room.

Every part of your home should standout according to its purpose. Your foyer is the welcoming room that sets the tone for the rest of your home. If your foyer is dark and unwelcoming there are ways to bring in color and light. One of the effective ways to enhance this area is by adding colors to brighten it up. Here are ideas to make your dark foyer brighter.

Bring color to your dark foyer

[ad#co-1]

Combine similar hues

This idea aims to have a bold impression in your foyer. For instance, consider having different shades of blue for your walls, furniture and accents. This will make a stunning foyer with a cool ambiance brought about by the shades of blue. You can also try other shades you like for your foyer.

Choose bold and bright colors

Vibrant colors bring a dazzling look in your foyer. This is an exciting way to enhance the looks of your foyer. You can have pink, green, yellow and orange for walls or corners. A patterned design can create a great effect in the interior. Well-designed pattern can also provide wonderful illusions like wider space and higher ceilings.

Consider adding rustic colors to your foyer

Image via: BlueStone Construction, LLC

Consider rustic colors

Having rustic colors gives you a vintage look at your foyer. Among the popular rustic colors are brown, mocha and black. You can also have silver, gold or platinum for this idea. The vintage looks of your foyer will definitely take your guests back in time.

Any of these ideas can truly make a difference in your foyer. Just think of the best colors that would perfectly fit your interior theme.

Entry #2122, February 19, 2013

<nbsp>

The front entry is one of the vital areas at home. Not only that it is the first spot where visitors come to see but also serves as a storage counter. For instance, the front entry can cater your shoes, umbrellas, mails and other everyday essentials.

Since this area is used as storage, it is very important to properly organize everything. This way, you can maximize the space you have and at the same time make the area look pleasing. Organizing your front entry involves thorough planning and appropriate implementation.

Front entry storage ideas

Image via: Anice Hoachlander

Here are some effective ideas on how to organize your front entry:

[ad#co-1]

Deal with your paper trails

Make sure that you manage properly your mails, bills, notifications and other forms of paper trail. This can be done by having a paper tray on top of your furniture to handle the papers. You can also have the hang-on mail holder to save space. Avoid piling these papers and dispose them properly as soon as they are settled.

Consider under cabinet storage bins

These are storage bins that you can pull out is you need and hide if not. These bins can also become bench if needed.
