1.      Clear the Clutter

Many people make their guest rooms dumping sites. They fill them with toys, dirty laundry, and unused furniture. Remove the extra items and pack the small ones in boxes. Maximize the closet by using stacking boxes and organizers. You can use a freestanding rack to create space for visitors to hang their clothes. Also create room for folded garments by adding hanging organizers or closet racks.

2.      Know Which Things to Keep and Which Ones to Toss

After clearing the clutter, divide the items into two piles: those you should keep and those you should throw. Things you can keep include timely magazines, books, area maps, local tourist brochures, and transit schedules. Those to be thrown include old magazines and worn out keepsakes. Relocate fragile keepsakes because children may break them by accident.

3.      Pamper Your Guests

As soon as your guests walk in through the door, make them feel at home. Place a luggage rack in the guest room to allow them to unpack their belongings. Even if they decide not to unpack, they will still be able to access their things easily. As well, place fragrant liners in the drawers and shelves, add padded hangers to closets, and use room sprays. It goes without saying that your special care will be remembered.

4.      Inspect the Room

Before your guests come, inspect the room to see what’s working and what isn’t. Many problems can go unnoticed in a room that isn’t used constantly. Check the lamp to see whether it needs a new bulb and examine ceiling corners for cobwebs. Add clean sheets, pillows, blankets, an alarm clock, and a night light. You can buy a motion-sensor light to help your guests avoid stubbing their toes at night.

Once the guest room is clean and tidy, layer in the essential for a good night’s sleep. Start with a set of fresh, clean linens for the bed. Add extra pillows and comforters. Provide your guests with both medium firm and soft pillows. Most guests will be reluctant to bother you so ensure that these small details are taken care of. A neutral décor in the guest room works best for guests in any age bracket. You can add pops of bright, bold colors to make the room look fresh and inviting.

3. Make it feel special:

Adding special touches to the guest bedroom will reflect your enthusiasm and appreciation towards your guests. Leave a handwritten thank you note along with some small gifts on the bedside table. Hang a couple of freshly laundered bathrobes in the bathroom along with a fresh set of towels. Place some scented candles in the room and a travel size pack of toiletries in the bathroom.
