If your home office is part of another room, multifunctional furniture comes in handy. For example, you can use a large armoire for storage and store your papers, files, and household items in it. You can also buy a wood coffee table with storage and place cushions on top to create a cozy sitting area where guests can relax when they come to your office. Remember that the room doesn’t have to look like a traditional office.

Dress Up your Cords & Cables

Your chargers, computers, and lighting fixtures have different cables which can make your office look cluttered. Cables can also be hazardous, particularly in a home with small children. While cables are a part of your life, they don’t have to take up all the floor space. You can cover them with fabric or tape or keep them hidden. Tackle this project in advance because you will never get around to it if you postpone.

Create a Sunny Space by Making Use of Natural Light

There are many ways you can create a sunny office. You can position your desk near a window to enjoy daylight, paint the walls white to highlight the natural light, or incorporate light window treatments. If the room gets a little amount of light, add artificial lighting fixtures to illuminate it during the day and at night. Keep in mind that you need sufficient light in order to work comfortably.

Sinks are some of the most hardworking fixtures in homes so why choose an ordinary one? Pick one that will put a smile on your face every time you see it. Needless to say, you’ll be the envy of your friends. Many homeowners forget that their home fixtures say a lot about their personality. A worn-out sink might make people think you don’t care about your home while a stylish one can make you seem trendy.

Think About the Room

The sink you buy should be determined by the room. If you’re buying a sink for your kitchen or bathroom, durability should be your first priority. Know the Style You Want

Other sink types include wall-mounted and pedestal. When getting a vessel sink, make sure the counter isn’t too high because the sink might be difficult to access. For a seamless installation and a clean look, choose a glass sink and a glass countertop.

Consider the Faucet

When choosing a glass sink, check the number and placement of the faucet holes. If you won’t be changing your faucet, choose a sink with a similar number of holes. If you get a sink with more holes, you might need decorative plates to cover them. Some sinks are devoid of faucet holes and require faucets to be installed on walls. Regardless of the sink you get, the water from the faucet should flow to the bottom; if it hits the sides, it can cause splashing.

Designer Tiles: New Ravenna Presents Shades of Gray

Shades of Gray

The latest designer tiles in the market are Shades of Gray, mosaic tiles designed by Sara Baldwin, the founder of New Ravenna. The beautiful tiles are made from natural stone and showcase different hues of gray (hence the name). Some of the tiles like Chevron, Penny, and Hex have a deep charcoal greystroke while others like Kasbah are comprised of two warm hues like Cashmere and Angora. The darker blue spectrum of gray is seen in Ombre Chevron. Ombre Chevron is made with Zircon, Alabaster jewel glass, and Lavastone. Kelp Forest is another captivating tile. Created from Alabaster jewel glass, its surging design is emphasized by the gray grout which demarcates each blade. Balsato Orvieto is an Italian stone dotted with mini-geodes of quartz. Each of the mosaics is handmade and assembled one piece at a time. They can be installed on both horizontal and vertical surfaces, indoors and outdoors. The glass tiles are ideal for vertical indoor surfaces.

Canada is much more than moose calls heard over mossy wetlands or beavers on their coins; Canada is a vast country (one that is larger than the United States) that is full of un-touched wilderness and resources. Canada is also a country full of welcoming citizens who always have a “Hello, nice day, eh?” and a warm smile to offer. After visiting this beautiful countryside, you will be inspired to infuse your home with nature-inspired elements that bring a breath of fresh air to your décor.

Whether you are getting to move to Canada, or if you are remodeling and need international removals, or you have never been, here some inspiration for you.

If you are unable to visit this lovely country, then here are some great Canadian inspired elements that you can add to your home today:

Driftwood and Ocean-Inspired Elements:

The Eastern and Western parts of Canada are literally ocean playgrounds. The smell of salt air is everywhere, and when tides are out seashells, mussels, sea glass, and unique pieces of driftwood are plentiful. These are elements that can be collected and added to any home, giving it not only a Canadian appeal, but a nature-inspired feeling.  Even if you live in the middle of the desert, these items can be bought at local craft stores. Shop your local store for sea shells and sand; these can be added to a large glass vase set as a table centerpiece.

Moose and beavers:

OK so you can’t escape the stereo type, there are a lot of northern Canadian cottage-style homes that are full of Moose heads and beaver pelts(I grew up in one of these particular homes) but this style can certainly be welcoming and nostalgic. If it appeals to you, then add lots of rustic wood elements to your home – think log cabin with plaid wool blankets, moose antlers on the wall and fur throws or area rugs on the floor. These all certainly say, “Welcome to the North!”

Canada is chock-full of creative artisans who build unique, one-of-a-kind wood furniture; knitted items; woven blankets; hooked rugs; and wall art. Search online for some of these unique pieces to add to your home today.

If you get the opportunity to visit this vast and welcoming country- take a breath of its fresh air; consider yourself lucky; and collect a few tokens to add some Canadian charm to your home.

Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 is Blue Monday, allegedly the most depressing day of the year. The date, a relatively new phenomenon, was determined by Dr. Cliff Arnall in 2005. He used a formula that factored in holiday debts, the hour of sundown, cold gray weather, the amount of time since Christmas had passed and despondence over failing to keep New Year’s resolutions. His admittedly non-scientifically-sensical formula resulted in the date taking place on the Monday that falls during the last full week in January.
