Now that winter is finally here, temperatures are going down, often below freezing point in many parts of the world. The best part of cold weather is of course having some healthy amount of snow. But let’s face it. Fresh snow sometimes can get boring with its whiteness and pureness and softness… well, I am kidding of course, but there is nothing wrong with adding a little color to the white and grey shades of winter, is there? Here is a great, fun activity to do exactly that and it is just ideal for involving children. Outdoor Winter Decor: How to make Giant Ice Balls.

Supplies you’ll need

Balloons (choose heavy duty ones if possible) of various sizes

Food coloring or/and colorful powdered drink mix

Water

Glitter (optional)

Below freezing point outside temperatures or empty space in your freezer

Depending on what you will use to color the water, you’ll get differenet looking giant ice balls

Image via: Postris

Directions

It’s a really straight forward project to make. Here are the simple steps:

To avoid creating a mess, you can use some newspapers to catch drippings.

Pour a few drops of food coloring or an amount of the powdered drink mix (one sachet should do the job, depending on the size of your balloon) into the empty balloon.

Add some glitter if you want a more sparkling effect.

Now just fill it with water, but don’t overfill it, since it might burst when you let it freeze.

Once filled, make a tight knot so nothing can get out of the balloon.

The next step is to freeze it. If using a freezer, just put it in there for a few hours, until its frozen solid. To be sure you won’t get a mess in your freezer, place the balloons inside a bowl or other container so to be sure all is fine in case it bursts. If you can freeze them outside, just place the balloon on the ground in a shadowy place and cover it with snow, if there is any, and let it freeze for a few hours. The freezing time depends on how big the balloons you use are and the temperature, so it might take up to 24 hours to freeze completely.

When the balloons are frozen and you want to move them, put them in a bucket for easier transportation and go outside. You might want to use some old mittens (they can get colored!), since they are really cold! With a scissor, cut the top of the balloon and peel it of the ice marble. And you’re done!

Make your winter days awesome!

Image via: Woods and Water

Keep in mind that depending on what you’ll use to color the water will affect the final outcome. Powdered drink mix tends to result in more solid, vivid colors, while food coloring will give you a look that resembles marbles more.

You can play all kinds of games with these fun marbles, like bowling, or use them to line your pathway up to your door. It’s also a fun science experiment for kids when freezing the ice balls and letting them melt away and color the underlying snow. It’s sure to be a blast for everyone when making them and playing. And they will be a unique eye-catching Outdoor Winter Décor this Christmas, guaranteed. After all, they kind of look like giant cool Christmas ornaments, don’t they?

Who doesn’t love Instagram? You can use it to find friends, play with vintage style, and discover the latest happenings. If you are an Instagram lover like me, you’ll enjoy making this DIY craft. Instagram pictures are ideal for all kinds of crafts but this one is my absolute favorite! You can make coasters of food, funny photos, or even family photos. To say the least, your family will love them and your guests will want to know how you made them. The holidays are almost upon us so use these coasters to impress when entertaining.

DIY Craft Gift Idea: Instagram Coasters

Supplies

4 or more square tiles (4×4)

Printed Instagram photos (Resize or crop the photos so they are the same size as the tiles)

Foam Brush

Modge Podge

Clear sealant (to make the coasters waterproof)

Instagram DIY coaster craft

Image via: HGTV Handcraft

Instructions

Use the foam brush to apply a layer of Modge Podge on each tile.

Place your Instagram photos and make sure they are centered. Modge Podge doesn’t dry quickly so you can realign your photos if they aren’t centered.

Add another layer of Modge Podge on top of each photo to make sure the coasters are waterproof. Don’t be afraid of the layer the Modge Podge creates, it dries out.

Leave the coasters to dry for about an hour.

Spray the clear sealant to make them more water-resistant. Since you’ll be using the coasters for drinking, you have to ensure they are waterproof.

Leave the coasters to dry then use them afterwards.

Image via: Chatterbox NYC

You may love Instagram and constantly print pictures from the site. But what do you do with the pictures once you print them? If your pictures are stacked on a shelf, get them and try this fun DIY craft. If they are still in your Instagram account, print them. You can make the coasters for your friends and give as gifts. You can also make themed coasters for thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s.

Would you make themed coasters or random ones?

Things You’ll Need

Chalk paint

Craft paint

Stencils

Flowers (natural or artificial)

Procedure

Use the sponge brush to apply the chalk paint on all the jars. Leave the jars to dry for about 2-3 hours or overnight.

If you want the jars to have a distressed/antique look, sand them after they dry.

Add fresh flowers and you are good to go.

These jars make a great centerpiece

You can use real flowers and put water in the vases or use artificial ones. The great thing about this DIY craft is that you don’t have to have a green thumb for a wonderful outcome. The vases are a perfect update for spring. Needless to say, you will love how they will turn out. They will look stunning in your home and add fresh appeal. All your guests will love them and ask you for the DIY tips. If you are in a rush, you can use spray paint because it dries quickly. It also has a lovely sheen that is hard to achieve with other types of paint.

Fall is the season to bring earthy and rustic decorations into your home. One great and simple idea to do this is to make your own wonderful fall planters like some Tree Trunk Planters following these easy DIY Craft instructions.

DIY Craft: How to Make a Tree Trunk Planter

DIY tree trunk planter

Image via: Homedit

[ad#co-1]

DIY Craft: Tree Trunk Planter

The first step to do is to gather some nice tree trunks or thick branches on a beautiful and stress-releasing fall walk. Make sure to have a 4 or 5 inch tree piece which should have at least 5 inches of height. After that, you will need a drill with a 2 inch forstner drill bit, some thick grit sand paper or a sanding block, soil and a succulent or other plant of your choice.

Natural looking tree trunk planter

Image via: Anthropologie.eu

Now you can peel the bark from the tree piece you have if you want and cut to the length you need. Hollow it out using the drill and sand it to get a smooth surface. If you like, also sand the outside of your tree piece. Now it’s up to you if you want to add some color and paint the tree trunk. To finish it off and add some protection, you can put a coat of protective sealer for wood on it. For a more natural look, you can skip adding the protective sealer.

DIY tree trunk planters can be great as table decor or favors

Image via: Shelterness

The last step is to plant your chosen plant. Put some soil and moss grass into the planter and plant your plants. You can use a fitting plastic planter which you will slide into your tree trunk planter to protect the plant’s roots from rotting.

Use tree trunk planters to hold candles or small things

Image via: Not On The High Street

These planters are not only beautiful but they can be used in many different ways. Try using them as vases or as candle holders. They even can hold small things like paperclips or other small utensils to keep your place organized while giving it a natural feel!

Making kids DIY crafts is a good way to keep them busy during holidays or weekends. Your kids will have fun and to a plus point, you can use the craft as a decorative piece. A cherry-blossom tree is a nice, simple, and inexpensive kids spring craft that will help your children to boom with creativity. The little gardeners will love celebrating the arrival of spring with a tissue cherry-blossom tree.

Kids Spring Craft: How to Make a Cherry-Blossom Tree

Image via: Easter Craft

[ad#co-1]

Materials

• Branches that can be found in your backyard (branches with several offshoots will be the best option for this craft)

• Pink tissue

• Scissor

• White glue

• Scotch tape

• A tall container with its lid removed in the middle

How to Make

• Let the branches dry if necessary.

• Use the scissor to cut the pink tissue paper into 2-inch square-shaped pieces.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-64526" alt="Use bright colors to add pizzazz.
Image via: Crafts by Amanda

• Nip each of the square-shaped tissue pieces tightly in the middle to create blooms. Twist the nipped part to shape the stem of the blooms.

• Take a small piece of scotch tape and wrap it around the edge of the stem.

• Affix the blooms to the branches with white glue or secure them by wrapping the tape around an offshoot of the branch.

• Display the branches in a container or jar.

Tips

• Apart from pink, you can use other bright colored tissue to add pizzazz.

• If you like to suspend the branches from the ceiling, use fishing line to hang them.

• If you put the flowers in a jar, you can place it on the dining table. However, if you decide to hang them, grace the ceiling of your kid’s room.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-64527" alt="Grace the ceiling of your kid's room.
Image via: Home Jelly

These season-inspired faux flowers are really fun to make. You can use this kids spring craft to punch up a last minute party or can incorporate it into your everyday décor.

It’s a great little present for any book-fan and so ridiculously easy that anybody can prepare a few bookmarks in just a couple of minutes. You can personalize this DIY craft in any way, since you can use your favorite color or even wrap the buttons in some lovely fabric before making the bookmarks. Just follow these really simple steps and you will have a great selection of beautiful button bookmarks in no-time.

Diy craft: Make cute button bookmarks

DIY Craft: How to Make Button Bookmarks

Materials

Buttons

Paperclips

E6000 glue

Wire cutters (optional)

Scraps of felt (optional)

Funky button bookmarks

Image via: Pinterest

Directions

If you have colorful paperclips, assign each button to a paperclip so you’ll have a combination that suits your taste. Check each button’s back. If there are hooks or shanks, remove them with the wire cutter or plier. Apply a drop of glue to the back of the button and attach the paperclip. Let the glue dry completely. Take a small scrap of felt with the size and shape of the button and glue it on the back of the button where the paperclip is attached, so you’ll have a smooth finish. Let it dry. That’s it; they are ready to be used.

Vintage buttons adds to the character of the button bookmarks

Image via: Sweet Paul Magazine

This DIY craft is so great, since you can use large paperclips to make bigger bookmarks, or choose some beautiful vintage-looking buttons to craft some sweet bookmarks for gifts. Also you can find on the market cute, colorful paperclips to have a more stunning effect. Another, more crafty option is to wrap buttons in some fabric of your choosing to make themed bookmarks, like some with spring flowers or animals, so that they become a personalized gift for a loved one. The options are really unlimited, and since it is such an easy and fun diy craft, it is great for any free afternoon to make.

Entry #3282, February 23, 2014

Are your bracelets, necklaces, and other ornaments have been spread all over the house or shoved into a drawer somewhere? If this is the case, you might have to wear the same pair of earrings or the same bracelet day after day because you cannot find where the others are or even forget that you own extra jewelry. So, what can be more amazing than making a DIY craft that you will give the solution for storing and displaying your favorite jewelry?

DIY Craft: How to Make a Twig Jewelry Holder

DIY twig jewelry holder ideas.

Image via: Homedit

This jewelry holder is made of driftwood and a few twigs that you can find in your backyard.

Materials

• Driftwood
• Some well-shaped twigs
• A drill
• Wood glue
• Water color to paint the twigs (optional)

Directions

The preparation of this DIY craft is really very simple.

DIY tree-jewelry holder.

Image via: Apartment Therapy

• Clean up the driftwood and twigs with water or a cleanser and let them dry. After that, paint the twigs with various bright water colors. You can paint the driftwood too to make the holder more attractive.
• Use the drill to make some holes at equal distance on the driftwood. Carve out one side of each twig too so that they fit the holes. Thrust the twigs into the holes and help them stick there by applying wood glue.
• Hammer one nail on the wall and two others on the two sides of the driftwood’s upper surface. Now, fasten two sides of a string to the two nails on the driftwood. Finally, hang it on the wall by the string.

Simple DIY jewelry holder.

Image via: Pinterest

You can also make this DIY craft without the driftwood. Cut off the limbs from a bigger twig and tie several smaller twigs to it with copper wiring. It will be a natural and rustic way to display your small ornaments.

How to make a Gumball Machine:

Paint the pot and the base, the ball and the doll pin in the color of your choosing. Let it dry completely.

Place the pot upside down and apply some glue on to the bottom. Now attach the bowl so it looks like a gum ball machine. Let the glue dry.

Turn the saucer upside down and glue the ball onto the center top. Let it dry.

Glue the doll pin to the front of the pot, so it looks like a gum ball opening.

Place the saucer-lid on the top of the bowl and you are done!

(This gumball machine isn’t operational from a hole in the front. Instead, lift off the saucer-lid to access the food inside!)

The options to customize and personalize this cute diy craft dispenser are limitless. Use other items instead of the wooden bowl, like small plastic toys or decorative items or use another cute item as an opening. You could even don’t make a fake opening and just write a cute message on the pot. Ribbons are also great for decorating the gumball machines. They can be even part of a themed party. Just use themed knobs instead of the wooden balls and matching colors. How fun would it be to make gumball machines in black, red and white, using some Mickey Mouse heads instead of the wooden balls for a Mickey Mouse birthday party?

Have you been thinking of a minimalistic approach to hanging your coat, books, or accessories? Trust me, there is a DIY project ready to happen in your closets. If you take a look at items inside your cabinets, you will certainly find several things that can be repurposed. Just like leather straps from your old bags and belts can be turned into helpful minimalist leather strap wall hangers.

These wall hangers are simple in concept & look great

All images via

There’s no doubt that leather materials are durable and resilient. These features make up a great hanger. Not only because of its toughness but also for its natural aesthetics. You don’t have to worry much about the materials for this project because everything can be found in your toolbox.

[ad#co-1]

Materials Needed

Leather straps

Nail or screws

Hammer

Screwdriver

Simply place your items in, and hang as display too!

Directions

Prepare all the material and tools needed. Make sure that the belts are clean as well as the nails or screws.

Fold the leather strap by meeting both ends and pin it on the wall using a nail or screw.

Pin the other leather straps randomly as you desired. You may consider the space and the style that you want.

You can now place a book inside the space of the leather straps or used towels, jackets and clothing. You can even hang a hanger at the bottom to maximize the space. Feel free to add designs to your leather straps like adding some button pins, decorative stickers or colorful lace.

Simple DIY wall strap idea

To maintain the natural look of the leather strap hanger, avoid using paint to enhance its color. Bear in mind that the natural appearance of the leather is more than enough to attract the attention of people who will see it. This is also one way to preserve its authentic leather look that makes it simple yet elegant.

These DIY leather strap hangers can also be placed at the back of your door or even inside your closet – a great solution for limited space.
