Today we continue Stagetecture’s feature ‘Olioboard Inspiration‘. Last week you enjoyed – ‘Celebration of 18 Olioboard Members‘ and this week I bring you Eddie Wood a member of the Facebook Olioboard Fan Room and who gave us a beautiful board for Mother’s Day.  Today, I asked Eddie to create a Father’s Day board that honored the Father figures in our lives and he did a gorgeous job with this stately man cave.

Father’s Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. It’s first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised six children there. After hearing a sermon about Jarvis’ Mother’s Day in 1909, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her fathers birthday, the pastors did not have enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June.

A Tribute

In honor of Father’s Day, I’ve designed a special retreat for the sophisticated gentleman.
An intimate library featuring paneled walls, hand carved book cases and a cozy fire to set the tone for an upscale “Man Cave”.

The room here is a refuge for dad to settle in with a brandy and cigar, the company of a good book and his loyal animal companions at his side.

The Design

Over the fireplace hangs a Civil War painting as a tribute to Sonora Smart Dodd’s father, William Jackson Smart, to honor the occasion.
I’ve keep the walls and bookcases in shades of creamy white to provide ample light for reading and to make a statement of elegance.
The wood flooring and twin stair cases provides a beautiful contrast for a monochromatic setting.
Bathed in beautiful low light from overhead and wall sconces compliment the ambiance from the glowing fireplace.
I’ve kept it sophisticated yet masculine with beautiful accessories that any dad would truly enjoy.

Theme

A “Man Cave” should be tailored to the man it’s intended for, so design it around their specific interest such as sports, games, wine room ect..
Just don’t over do it and keep the chotskies to a minimum. Less is differently more when designing a themed room.

For example if your husband or father competes in sports and has won ribbons or trophy’s,
keep it organized and display them in groupings on a mantle, or perhaps designate a focal point wall with beautiful large scale frames to showcase his prize ribbons in.

Keep it tasteful and remember to keep HIM in mind while decorating.

‘Relaxing Mother’s Day Spa Inspiration’ –  Eddie Wood

“All that I am and all I hope to be, I owe to my Angel mother”

Home Spa Retreat

What a treat it is to pamper one self in a luxury home spa.

This space was designed for sheer rest and relaxation and offers incredible comfort and beauty.

I’ve chosen a quite cozy room embellished with luxurious furnishing that any mother would love to indulge herself in.

Setting The Stage

A copper bathtub sits center stage under an opulent chandelier, while the glow of the fireplace sets the mood for total relaxation.

Imagine yourself soaking in bubbles with the sound of a crackling fire, soft music and perhaps a glass of champagne,
as the sweet aroma of old fashioned roses and sweet peas fill the air.

Light ~ Furnishings ~ Accents

I love the light in this space, so I’ve used a privacy screen with frosted glass to defuse the sun and provide privacy from the unadorned windows.

A small make up table and chair are neatly nestled into the folding screen, highlighted by an extending wall sconce and antique mirror.

Flanking the fireplace rest a wicker and wood settee adorned with pillows and soft throws _ The perfect spot for a book and cup of tea.

The floor is carpeted with the loveliest pattern of exotic birds and florabunda, bringing the outdoors in, complimenting the unique vignette of a mounted peacock and side table for bath oils and sea sponges.

Comfort is the key

Comfort is the key word when designing a home spa, surrounding yourself with beautiful things that help you relax and unwind.

Remember, lighting is also key in creating a relaxing atmosphere, and this space is an excellent example. I use bulbs 40 watt or less in lamps where I need to have soft low light. A dimmer switch is wonderful if you have over head chandeliers.

All in the details

The coffered ceiling is just beautiful and adds another touch of grandeur to the room.

Bringing in a family air-loom like the sterling silver trophy here makes the space more personable. Perhaps something that was dear to your mother or grandmother.

This is your personal space to be alone and free from stress, so make it as comfy as possible.

Olio Board is a wonderful tool to create and plan a space. I use it mostly to design inspirational presentation boards to show my collection of pillows to potential wholesale companies. Having the ability to show a product in a an actual setting is fantastic.

I’m so delighted to have this opportunity to feature my designs with you. I would truly appreciate your comments.

Thanks!
