There comes a time in every parent’s life where your kids have grown out of their rooms, moved out of their rooms or have just pretended to leave only to move back in when they feel (most college kids). Whatever the case may be, keeping your kids’ room just for them when they no longer use it can be a waste of free space and an inconvenience. So here are some ways to revamp your kids’ old rooms to suit your needs as well as add more value and beauty to your home. Let’s take look below at some quick ideas on how to your kid’s rooms.

Kids Old Rooms Ideas: Giving it a New Purpose

Turn their room into your hobby Room

For Your Recreational Purposes

Haven’t you or your spouse ever had plans or ideas on making your kid’s rooms to something you all wanted for yourselves? Such as, a home office that you get you work done in or a place you wanted to start your own business in. Perhaps, you even have hobbies and would like to make it a hobby room for enjoyment. Like a sewing room, a library for the house or even a man cave. The choices are endless. Some have gone as far as merging the room with the master room in order to create a master suite.

Create a home gym

A Guest Room

Turn your old kid’s rooms into rooms for your guests. Friends and family love to visit one another and especially with the holidays around the corner it would be great to have a space designated for them. Just remove anything that was your kids, add in (if not already there) a full sized bed, a storage rack, dresser and clean/open closet space. Try having a neutral color palette, with mixture of white linens around this will help to create an organic and inviting feel to the space. This can also work both ways if the child is in college and comes home for the summer semester, they still have a place to sleep and it won’t have to be your sofa.

Transform it into a guest Room

Image via: Shelterness

Perhaps Juts a Simple Upgrade

Maybe, your child hasn’t moved out but rather grown out of the style of their old room and just wants an upgrade to fit their current style. Typically, if the child is bold enough to come to you about their room being to childish then they may have some ideas of their own. So like you would do with any renovation, remold or revamping- discuss the budget, the ideas and set the time frame. Let them show you which way they want to go and of course the choice is really yours about what will actually be ok for their room in your house. It could be a new paint job or just a new comforter set.

We love our kids dearly, but sometimes we may not be so gun-ho about all of their things they like to leave with us. You don’t have to let those rooms fall by the wayside, now you have the opportunities to do what you want within your home. So get creative and think out of the box. Make your kid’s rooms your rooms again. And above are some ways on how.

Also, Stagetecture readers do you happen to have any ideas on how you would or have revamped your kids’ rooms for the best? We’d love to hear them!

When kids go off to college, parents commonly experience bittersweet feelings of joy and sadness. You’re surely proud of your children for coming so far and growing into fine young adults, but you probably feel some trepidation about sending them away. This is perfectly natural. After all, you’ve raised these kids from birth, and they’re taking their first shot at flying out of the nest. This is a time of progress and change, so make sure you’re ready for these life changes when your kids leave for college.

Are you ready for your college student to move away?

1. Peace and Quiet

How long has it been since you’ve had a quiet evening to yourselves as parents? Some kids spend more time out with their friends than others, but you’ve likely grown accustomed to having your kids around most of the time. You get so used to their presence that it becomes part of the backdrop of your life. When your kids leave for college, the house will be much quieter. Some parents are soothed and relaxed by this new-found peace, but others may find it unsettling.

2. Feelings of Worry

In the past, your children have always been close by. Even when they’ve stayed out late or slept at friends’ houses, you’ve always known that you could expect to see them soon. When the kids go way to college, you really can’t keep tabs on them anymore, and this becomes a source of worry for many parents. Try to trust that they’ll make mature decisions, but check in once in a while to see how they’re doing. Remember, your kids are probably enjoying this freedom, but they might be enjoying it too much.

3. A Full Refrigerator

No parent needs to be told how much a growing teenage eats. They seem like bottomless pits at times, consuming every morsel of food that comes their way. Be prepared for a bit of a shock when you realize how long groceries last with your kids away at college. You may actually have to trim your usual shopping list to keep from buying more food than you can eat. Many parents wind up wasting food because they don’t realize how much slower it moves without their kids around.

Instead of focusing on the empty nest – use these tips

Image via: Lori Smyth Design

4. Lonelier Days

With your kids away at college, one or more members of your family is gone. A lot of parents get empty nest syndrome around this time, and feel lonely without their sons and daughters under the same roof. Find ways to occupy your time to combat these feelings. Get back into some of your favorite hobbies to make productive use of your time now that the kids are away. You could even use this extra time to pursue an online MBA in marketing or any other field to advance your career.

5. Evolving Relationships

Now that your kids are growing up and going away to college, your relationships with them are going to change dramatically. When your kids are around every day, they grow with you, and you get accustomed to their quirks. You may find that when your children come home from college, they seem very different. This is natural. A lot of growing up happens in college. It may come as a shock, but accept it and be proud of your children for growing up so well on their own.
