There are a lot of wonderful ideas from which one can choose from, according to the overall Thanksgiving dinner style, the used tableware and the general interior design and decoration of the house. Thus, it can be elegant, traditional, natural, fun, formal and so on.

1. Easy DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece Ideas

While flower markets are a little less colorful in the colder months, you shouldn’t make your table suffer because of that. Choose flowers that are in season to add a wow factor. Create a centerpiece with berried branches, tiny pumpkins, and leafy greens. Tuck these into a wooden bowl to make a showpiece that spells autumn.

2. Get Creative with Pumpkin Decor

Decorated pumpkin decor can set the tone for a lovely table spread. Embellish your pumpkins with fresh flowers and candles. To make your centerpieces last past thanksgiving, replace the fresh flowers and pumpkins with silk flowers and faux pumpkins. Attach the flowers to the pumpkins with hot glue before you add the candles. You can use the centerpieces throughout the year or store them for next thanksgiving.

3. Mini Pumpkin Tree Centerpiece Ideas

So simple and yet so cute looking! Just fill a few cylindrical vases with birdseeds or nuts, in order to keep the branches standing nicely. Take some good looking mini pumpkins and suspend them with twine. Now arrange them to hang on the branches and over an arrangement of other seasonal items, like pine cones, berries, branches, more pumpkins and candles.

4. Flowers And Fruits Centerpiece In A Wooden Vessel

Try making an eye-catching centerpiece, arranged with seasonal flowers and fruits, using autumn tones. Firstly, choose a beautiful, natural, wooden container to use as a vessel or you can make your own, by attaching birch bark on the sides of a pine box with heavy-duty staples. Next, line the box on the inside with some heavy duty plastic and add floral foam, in order to support the flowers. Use any suitable flowers, berries, branches and fruits, even vegetables in colors of your choosing.

5. Elegant White Pumpkin Thanksgiving Centerpiece Ideas

For an elegant centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table, use a nice, slim wooden box and arrange in it some small or mini white pumpkins and small white flowers, like tiny roses and white calla lilies. A few pheasant feathers or some other matching decorations give this arrangement the final twist.

6. Candle Centerpiece

A centerpiece that is not too overwhelming, simple to make but remains a wonderful assembling, is the following one. Arrange some beautiful autumn leafs, pine cones and berries around matching candles. Use different sizes and types of fall candles and candleholders, which match with the placemats and napkins that will be used, and you will have a beautiful arrangement.

We love these fall table decorations on Stagetecture, too!

7. Use Herbs in your Thanksgiving Centerpieces

What better way to show your love for the season than to create a centerpiece comprised of your favorite autumn herbs? Herbs smell great and can bring to mind fond memories. To create your thanksgiving centerpiece, fill a glass vase with different types of herbs like rosemary, thyme, and sage. If your container is small, you can create several centerpieces and arrange them at the center of the table.

8. Create a Vegetable Thanksgiving Centerpieces

If you have an eye for texture and color, head to the vegetable aisle of your local grocery store. Here you’ll find purple cabbage, curly lettuce, artichoke, kale, and other colorful vegetables. You can arrange them on a shallow footed tray and surround it with floating candles. You can also remove the center of the cabbage and replace it with a jar of water or florist’s foam and put a few blooms inside.

9. Natural DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece Ideas

A fun, very natural and original idea is to take a gathered tree branch and use it as a tea light candleholder by drilling some holes into it. This inexpensive idea can be completed by arranging nuts, leafs, various pumpkins, pinecones and flowers on the side of the branch. It will for sure be a special Thanksgiving centerpiece that would be ideal for an outdoor Thanksgiving table!

10. Personalized Place Settings

Everyone likes having a place at the table, just ask the kids when they get older and make it to the “Big People” table. Make everyone feel special this Thanksgiving evening with specialized table toppers. Pick any fruit, nut, pumpkins or paper craft of any item that represents the holiday and take little strips of paper, write the person’s name on, place each of those strips in the item and place them around the table next to the plates or in front of them. Not only will this add to the ambiance but make everyone feel included and for kicks you can add little quotes or jokes to the strips of paper for each person.

Happy DIY Saturday! Thanksgiving Day is approaching and everything is planned in detail, from a great menu, beautiful tableware and up to an amazing table setting. The one thing you could add to make this Day even more memorable is to offer your guests a little, yet meaningful gift, which you or your family can prepare with care and love. It doesn’t need to be something fancy or extravagant. Only a small token of your appreciation of your guests and something for them to take home, so they can prolong a little more this wonderful Thanksgiving celebration. Some of these favors could even serve as placement card holders or for decoration until your guests are ready to take them home.

Thanksgiving DIY Favors For Your Guests

Sweet candy corn favor

[ad#co-1]

Mini Pumpkin Candy Basket

These are so cute and simple to make. Use some beautiful mini pumpkins and bendable branches or some vine for making the handle. Empty the inside of the pumpkins, pierce small holes to push the branch through and add some nice candies for your guests. They are so adorable that they are easily used as decoration until the feast is over!

Mini pumkin basket favor

Image via: Pinterest

Rosemary pots

A clever way to upcycle your soup cans and displaying your recycling spirit. Just wrap some clean soup cans in burlap or upholstery tape, and tie it with some twine. Next, place small rosemary plants in the cans and ready are these eco-friendly favors! The plants can be used either to flavor your guest’s food over the coming days, or to be planted in another pot or their garden. Using different sizes of cans, they could even be a centerpiece for your table or you could use them as placement card holders!

Rosemary can-pot favor

Image via: Pinterest

Felt Cutout Coasters

So nice looking and easily personalized! They need a little bit of preparation, but your guests are going to enjoy them for a long time. To make, use some rectangle shaped felt in colors that will match the rest of your home’s decoration. Cut out on one end of the felt a little thumb notch and a small window, in any shape you like. Then, fold the rectangle so you have a square and stich or glue the sides together. Next, print out some words or images, or even your guest’s names on some matching card stock, and cut it to fit into the coasters, while your design will show in the window you made. Slide the printed cardstock into the coaster and you have a wonderful favor for your guests, which can be used perfectly as placement cards.

Felt coasters favor

Image via: BHG

This Thanksgiving show your guests how much you appreciate them with these creative holiday favors. This can start becoming a new tradition in your Thanksgiving holiday home!

Designing your dining room to complement the season is a popular routine. It makes your home interior and exterior look vibrant, fresh and voguish. This autumn, you can take advantage of stylish dining table to highlight your design.

[ad#co-1]

You can start with these autumn dining room table ideas to pump up your interior:

Prefer a natural and eco-friendly setting

Having a nice piece of dining table is one thing but having it all natural and eco-friendly is another. A nice wooden table can actually do the trick. You just have to complement it with your available linen or drapes and surround it with wooden chairs. As for the utensils, plain ceramic plates and silver dishware can change the looks of your table settings and achieve the autumn look that you wanted.

Natural foods create a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape

Image via: Tasteful Taters

Do some repurposed wrapping

This isn’t just another eco-friendly idea but rather making use of what you already have. It’s a quicker way to start the table makeover this season. To do this, you can retrieve your gift boxes and bags to be placed as decorative items on your table. You can use craft paper to make a design pattern and have them distributed all around the table.

Repurpose baskets and stack with fragrant herbs and fruity

Image via: BHG

Include children’s crafts on your table

Isn’t it exciting to print out your kid’s artwork and make it as your placemats? This will add personalized touch in your table setting and will definitely provide a positive impact to your kid. A set of crayons tied with a name tag of the person sitting in the specific area should make it more exciting. Of course, encourage your kid to have his or her illustration related to the autumn season.

Now that you see how it works, you certainly have all the reasons to design your own autumn dining room table.

Even better is a table runner, handmade at home, that will add an edge to the decor.

3 Creative DIY Thanksgiving Table Runner Ideas

Here are three easy ideas to create your own table runner this thanksgiving:

1. Book page runner

Old book pages that have yellowed over the years can add a rustic touch to your table décor. Look for an old book in your bookshelf that you no longer refer to or get in touch with your local library for old books that they might be giving away.

Measure your table for size and calculate the number of pages required. Carefully cut out the pages. Preferably use the pages from the middle of a chapter so that the pages are full and do not have blank spaces. Arrange the pages on a table so that the edges are barely touching. Use packing tape to attach the pages together. Finally, use decorative punch hole to create a design all around.

Create a charming table runner with old book pages

Image via: Fiskars

[ad#co-1]

2. Burlap runner

Burlap is a beautiful, versatile fabric that can be used in both a casual and a formal setting. Simple burlap fabric can be used creatively as a table runner in a matter of minutes. The warm color of the burlap fabric works well with both traditional and contemporary thanksgiving décor.

Cut the fabric into desired length according to the size of your table. Gather the fabric together a few inches above the end and simply tie a twine of jute or ribbon and the runner is ready for use. You can also tie burlap sashes to the dining chairs for an extra decorative punch.

Burlap fabric can help add texture and depth to your table setting

Image via: Pinterest

3. Pinwheel runner

Add color to your table setting by crafting a runner out of scrapbook or craft paper.

Start by selecting 3 to 4 colored paper sheets and cut these into different sized rectangles with varying widths. Fold these evenly in a fan fold like an accordion. Snip the edges with a scissor to make a pattern.

Open the fan and stick the two ends together such that it looks like a circular disc. Use decorative punch hole to create a design along the edge. Stick different sized discs together to form a table runner.

Add an element of fun with a pinwheel table runner

Image via: Apartment Therapy

These handmade table runners can be easily made on a budget. Make your runner the focal point of the table by decorating with elements like paper and tissue flowers, jute chargers and dry flowers that complement the vintage and rustic look of these ideas.

Your guests have arrived and they are starting to get anxious and wondering what your festive menu looks and tastes like, so they slowly move towards your beautiful decorated Thanksgiving table. To avoid any confusion, placement cards are a great idea. That way, everybody knows where to sit, and you can arrange some clever mix of your guests, either putting together persons that will have a lot of common things to talk about, or to keep apart people who don’t enjoy each other’s company.

Creative DIY Thanksgiving Placement Cards Ideas

Easy DIY placement card ideas

DIY Easy Thanksgiving Placement Cards

Rosemary wreath

With just some rosemary and floral wire, you can craft amazing rosemary wreaths to hold the name card banner. Placed on a linen napkin, it will look very sophisticated.

Rosemary wreath placement card

Image via: Pinterest

[ad#co-1]

Simple fruit placement card

This one is straight forward and very easy to make. Take a nice seasonal fruit, like an apple or a pear, and wrap around it some cord. Insert a nice, simple name card and there you have it! A nice, simple Thanksgiving placement card.

Mini pumpkin placement card

Using some cute mini pumpkins with intact stems, some cut out leafs and a hand – made name banner, you can arrange a wonderful little placement card. This is a great idea, especially if your whole decoration has the pumpkin as the key-object.

Mini pumpkin placement card

Image via: Pinterest

Filled jar placement card

A really simple and smart idea is to use some nice jars, fill them with nuts in accordance to the Thanksgiving spirit and decorate the jar lid with some linen. Tie the linen with some nice twine. Next, make a name tag out of kraft paper and glue it on top of the jar. The jars would make an ideal favor for your guests to bring back home.

Jar placement card

Image via: BHG

The placement cards should look very inviting and cozy, without looking overdone. Use simple, seasonal items and craft supplies, like twine and kraft paper. Also, the name tags can be easily made to look like banners or leafs and if your handwriting is not that stunning don’t worry! Thankfully, you can always use a printer!

The important thing to keep in mind is to choose placement cards that are in accordance to the rest of your DIY Thanksgiving décor of your home and table, the centerpiece and the tableware you use. That way, you will have a complete themed decoration that will leave your guests with the best impression for the whole Thanksgiving Day.

Olioboard Inspiration #48

‘The Inspiring History of Thanksgiving’ Lisa Ketz

The origins of Thanksgiving began with the Pilgrims who settled here from England in 1621. They are said to have shared a feast with the Wampanoag Indians after a successful fall harvest that lasted for three days. It did not come to be considered a national day of thanks and official Federal holiday until 1941. In 1817, New York was the first to adopt Thanksgiving as an official holiday. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November. In 1939, President Franklin Roosevelt declared the third Thursday in November to be Thanksgiving.

The Food Is the Star

Thanksgiving Day traditions mainly revolve around the food with the turkey as its symbol. It is not known for sure that turkey was on the menu at the first Thanksgiving but given the existence of wild turkeys it probably was. Modern day Thanksgiving has become a day for families to get together and to enjoy a great meal to kick of the holiday season. The bulk of food preparations usually took place in my house while we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV. Dinner was a formal sit down event. The fine family china and cloth napkins would make a rare appearance. The adults partook of wine served in fancy wine glasses. To allow room for all the serving dishes, the table décor was best kept simple. One of my favorite simple table decor ideas is to place pillar candles in plain glass hurricane vases and surround them with dried corn kernels.

[ad#co-1]

All the usual fixings for example, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, turnips and cranberry sauce would be served. I am sure every family has their own special dishes which have been handed down through the generations. My Mom added creamed pearl onions and green bean casserole to her menu. Funny, Thanksgiving is pretty much the only time of year I get to enjoy my favorite pumpkin pie. After dinner the men generally retire to the living room to watch the football while the ladies handled the cleaning duties. Then it was nap time for all before the leftovers came out, Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches which would also be had for days afterward.

This Thanksgiving I will be most thankful for the twelve wonderful years I shared with my life partner who just recently passed away.

A beautifully decorated Thanksgiving dinner table evokes warm and welcoming feeling for friends and family. But what about other areas of your home? This year, take time to decorate the rest of your house and extend the thankful feeling. Use the signs of the season and apply a little creativity for these easy Thanksgiving decor ideas for your home.

Thanksgiving home decor

[ad#co-1]

Front door decoration

If you are hosting the dinner this year, use Thanksgiving bounty to greet your guests. Use acrons, Indian corn, and dried leaves tied with a ribbon or raffia to decorate your front door. For the porch, place variety of pumpkins and gourds at the side of the door.

Gold shimmer pine cone wreath

Image via: Pinterest

Decorate with aroma

Create a warm and welcoming feeling throughout your home by using aroma candles and potpourri. Light a pumpkin or apple scented candle in very bedroom and bathroom. Simmer a bowl of potpourri in the kitchen to evoke an instant feeling of Thanksgiving.

Use fall accessories

Replace light window treatments with thick dark jewel toned ones. To bring in the cozier element, change your cotton blankets and throws with faux fur or heavy knits. For bed sheets and throw pillows, stick to fall colors such as muted shades of gold, orange and red.

Thanksgiving table inspiration

Image via: Pinterest

Kitchen and table

How about buying a set of thanksgiving themed or autumn inspired tableware? Accent it with matching place mats, napkins, and table runner. For the centerpiece, use tall candles for a perfect fall ambiance. Request each family member to give his/her thanks on a piece of paper and stick it on the fridge or make a collage.

Thanksgiving is about family, friends, food, and fun. Think about these four things, and your mind will come up with lots of interesting home decorating ideas.

Here’s how you can create a DIY Thanksgiving wreath craft for your front door:

Materials Needed

Oval grapevine wreath

Moist florist foam

Wire snips

Chicken wire

Florist wire

Flowers (Red Rover, Fuji mums, chrysanthemums, etc.)

Foliage (sorghum, oak leaves, etc.)

Pheasant feathers

Procedure

Start by assembling the wreath. You can do this by cutting a piece of moist foam to hold the flowers and foliages. The length depends on how you want the diameter of your wreath will be. It would be better if you will consider the dimension of your door.

Secure the form of the wreath by using the chicken wire to fit around the foam. Use the wire snip to cut the chicken wire. Squeeze the edge of the chicken wire to hold the wire in place.

Using the florist wire, secure the foam to the wreath by fitting them around in random places.

Start inserting your choice of flowers at the bottom of the wreath. Cluster each type of mum to make it look more gorgeous. Carefully fill in the sides of the wreath with flowers and make sure that they are inserted securely in the florist foam.

After all the flowers are attached, add your foliages. Insert these foliages carefully and securely in the florist foam. You can insert the foliages in random but make sure you distribute the foliages evenly on every corner.

Make it as colorful and vibrant as possible. Choose attractive flowers to make it stunning and captivating. Welcome in your Thanksgiving guests with a gorgeous wreath to greet them!
