Fall is an extra busy season for those people who have children. Besides organizing the entire home and taking preparation for the upcoming cold, you have to get ready for back to school and organize and decorate their rooms. Check out these kids room decor ideas for this fall season.

Easy Fall Themed Ideas for Kids Room Decor

Control the clutter with handy storage options.

Image via: HGTV

[ad#co-1]

Locker for Clutter Control

Including storage options to the decorating plan is a great idea because autumn is the time when you really need to control the clutter. The days start becoming shorter in fall and the holidays are in before you know anything! So, it will be great to organize your kid’s room before you get busy with the upcoming holidays. Your kid has mountains of stuff like sports equipment, comics, toys, shoes, and more. Include a locker in his/her room and it will serve as catchalls at home. Colorful boxes, extra drawers, and other storage can serve this purpose too.

Make cute pumpkin decorations and place in your kid’s room.

Image via: Gleam It Up

Pumpkins for Fun

Pumpkins are inseparable from this season. Whether you eat them or use as decor items, pumpkins will be a part of your home during the fall season. Carve them, decorate them, or use them as candle or lantern holders, they will be an exciting addition to your kids room decor. Carve funny faces on pumpkins or use mix-and-match templates to make it comic and humorous. You can also decorate them with lace sleeves and other things. Your kids will surely love having several of these decorated pumpkins in his/her room.

Don’t just bag the fallen leaves!

Image via: Living MSN

Fallen Leaves to Celebrate Fall

Fallen colorful leaves are a part of the autumn season. You can do much more with them except just putting them in bags! Cut paper pieces in any design you want and glue the colorful leaves on each of the pieces. Make a small garland and hang it in your kid’s room. You can also frame the leaves on fabric or glass canvas and hang them on the walls. It will be a lovely way to celebrate the changing season.

Fall-Themed Pillows for Snug

Decorate your kid’s room with a number of soft, stuffed pumpkins for a pop of cushion-y color. You can make them by your own with a little bit of sewing skills or buy them from stores. Your kid cannot be happier while snuggling them on a cozy fall evening. Plus, fill his/her bed with a few fall-themed pillows.

Fall colored bedroom themes bring the season alive!

Image via: Pottery Barn

While decorating a kid’s room, remember that they are fond of colors. So, no matter which way you want to incorporate fall into that room, do not forget to complement them with appropriate colors. In addition, try to involve your kid into the decoration process. It will make the task fun and lessen your burden.

Make a twist on your flower centerpiece this fall season. How? Well, consider having gourds into the picture. Gourds can spell out the difference between a good flower displays to a great flower centerpiece. You will be amazed at how gourds can turn a dull and boring arrangement into a stunning masterpiece. Try making this fall DIY planter for a beautiful display this season.

Image via: Midwest Living

Fall DIY Planter – Procedure

Using a serrated knife, cut the top portion of your gourd or squash forming a circle. Make the circle about 3 inches in diameter. Always take extra precaution when using a knife. Gourd and squash differ in their firmness – one may be harder than the other.

Scoop out the pulp and seeds inside. You can easily do this using a spoon. Do this slowly and carefully to avoid damaging your gourd or squash. Don’t apply too much force but just enough to empty the space inside. Take your time in doing this step.

Fill in your foliages and flowers. Make use of autumn leaves to hold the foliages and flowers together. Don’t think of doing this in just one try. Use your creativity and do some trial and error settings. It is best if you can take a picture for each trial and then compare the results. Choose the one that captures your attention.

Awaken your front porch with gourds and flowers!

Image via: Pinterest

See how easy it is to make a gorgeous autumn planter using gourds. As mentioned, you can use squash as an alternative and still have the a beautiful flower centerpiece. You can also explore on some fall flowers like bittersweet, tallow and viburnum berries, rose hips and hypericum berries are great options. Choose the flowers that you love the most or start by picking beautiful flowers in your garden.

Olioboard Inspiration #40

‘Lighting your Outdoor Parties this Autumn’ Sam Holloway

“A beautiful season, fall is filled with color, crisp days and provides an excuse to indulge in great foods”,”season of mists and mellow fruitfulness”–Keats

For most people, Autumn is a time to reap in the harvests and to preserve food for the upcoming colder months of Winter. The best way to celebrate a good harvest is to enjoy the fruits of your labour by throwing a party to share them with friends and family.

There is no need to stress over complicated recipes and decorations. keep it subtle and simple and let the food speak for itself. Lighting sets the mood for any party, it is the key to ensure that your party can continue throughout the darker evenings that Autumn brings. . Think of the lighting as part of the party decorations when deciding what to use. Incorporate more than one type of light at your party for maximum effect, as one of the easiest and least expensive ways to add ambiance to an outdoor space is with lighting– the right lighting certainly does make an impact and cast a memorable glow.

Lighting ideas for your Outdoor Parties this Autumn

Make sure you have enough lighting so your guests are not struggling to see their food and drink even when it gets dark. this doesn’t mean lighting up your garden like an airport runway.

Atmospheric lighting will help improve the general tone and feel to your party. Flares, lanterns and even your Christmas fairy lights along your pathway are great to ensure nobody ends up taking a swim in your fish pond. One good idea that I have used before is tea lights to mark out the garden path and steps, also in trees and bushes to add that ‘wow factor’.

There are so many different types of outdoor lighting available on the market nowadays and each type contributes a different ambience.

Solar Lights:

These gather energy during the day from the sun and automatically turn on as darkness falls. They can be left outside all year round and last about six hours at a time, so it’s possible that they will start to fade before your guests do so make sure you also have other types of lighting in use to ensure the party continues.

Electric Lights:

Use an outdoor lamp to brighten up a buffet, or wrap twinkling strands around columns or trees. To hide cords, duct-tape them to the ground and cover with an outdoor rug, or tuck them under bushy garden plants. Electric string lights can withstand the rain so can stay outside for up to three months; store them indoors for the winter and check for frayed wires before bringing them out next season. Strings of white or coloured holiday lights are a festive addition to your outdoor lighting year round. String them onto existing walls, fences and outdoor structures for instant lighting. Create a tent effect with several strings and a central pole. Place a pole that is at least 8 feet high in the centre of the party area. Run strings of lights from the top of the pole to the top of a fence or wall. String the lights so they radiate out from the pole to wall. If you don’t have a fence, place 6-foot stakes around the perimeter of the party area every 4 feet or so.

[ad#co-1]

Battery Powered Lights:

These give you the ambience of candles without worrying about gusts of wind extinguishing them or dripping wax which also make them ideal for parties where children and pets are present. Create lighting over seating areas by placing a battery-operated light inside lanterns. Make sure to bring the lights inside at the end of the party: Batteries can leak and short if they get wet.

Paper Lanterns:

A variety of shapes, sizes and colours are available. Choose round accordion-style lanterns for bold lighting or narrow cylindrical lanterns for a more refined look. Tie streamers to the bottom of the lanterns or leave them plain depending on the mood you want to set.

Suspend paper lanterns above the party. And attach them to existing outdoor bulbs or attach them to string lights. Lanterns are especially striking when surrounding a pool because the light reflects off the water.

Candles and Torches:

Candlelight emits a warm, gorgeous glow with one strike of a match. Define borders by placing small candles in glass holders along flower borders, walls and paths. When hanging candles from trees, place them in deep containers so that the wicks are a minimum of fat least a few inches lower than the rims; this will prevent the flames from blowing out, also ensure that handles of the containers are made of wire and long enough to keep flames about 12 inches away from leaves and branches.

With the right mix of lighting you can ensure that your garden will remain well lit until your last guest leaves. Now all you have to do is relax in the company of your friends and share your delicious home cooked feast.

Your dining room is the place where you share family dinners and entertain your family and friends. It is one of the areas that reflect your personal style. When you want to incorporate the beauty of your autumn dining room, there are many ways to go about it. You can use styles such as vintage, traditional rustic, or shabby chic to highlight the coming of autumn. For some cool decor ideas, follow these tips:

Tips to decorate your dining room:

Create Lovely Centerpieces with Flowers or Gourds

Flowers add a whimsical touch

Image via: Nita Stacy

[ad#co-1]

Fresh centerpieces are always classic and perfect for those who love to decorate with color. One way you can create a gorgeous centerpiece is by using contrasting colors. The changing flowers and leaves are perfect for fall inspired décor. Get a glass vase and fill it with water and put bunches of flowers in different colors. Arrange the flowers according to color to create a natural color gradient. When choosing a vase, pick one whose shade complements that of the flowers to make them stand out and also to add more hues to the room. Choose green, blue, purple colored vases to complement different shades of yellow, red, and orange flowers. Another way you can create a lovely centerpiece is by using gourds. Visit your local grocery store and get some eye-catching gourds. Place them in a basket and make a gorgeous centerpiece. You can line the basket with colorful autumn leaves to add more color.

Decorate your Dining Room – Try a Buffet Display

A nice buffet display brings fall to your dining room

Image via: Stephanie Callahan

If your dining room has a buffet, you can use the top area for display. Place a runner on the top to adorn and protect the surface and put a large pumpkin in the middle with small pumpkins around it. You can also use other items like mini pilgrims, turkeys, or fall candles in spice scents to decorate your dining room.

Look to Natural Elements on your Dining Room Table

Add branches for a natural look

Image via: Jessica Vess

Autumn dining room décor doesn’t have to be fancy or elaborate. Actually, the simpler it is the better. Bring an autumn touch to your dining room by placing a burlap runner on the table and adding fresh greens or flowers on top. Or get some spindly branches and bunch them together for a unique look. Branches can transform your dining room in an instant and add a natural look to the room.

‘Dramatic Autumn Bedroom Ideas’

  Tabitha Loudon

“Baby, when it’s cold outside” you probably want to stay indoors!

It’s that time of year when you are looking for ways to make your house warmer and ready for the winter months, especially in your bedroom.

I’m like a cat, I love being curled up in a warm blanket away from the colder and wetter weather that autumn brings.

The bedroom is a place for relaxation after a long stressful day, so you want it to be comfortable. What ways can you make your bedroom warmer?

Create decorative layers in your bedroom

First of all let’s start with the bed itself and consider layering.

Start buy investing in a good set of sheets,Flannel sheets are really good at keeping your feet warm and they have a soft texture.

Another option to consider is the thread count of your bed linen.

If you plan to spend money on buying a nice set of sheets, think about a higher thread count, The higher the thread count, the more comforting the sheets will be.

On top of the sheets, you will need a very soft blanket or a down alternative.

[ad#co-1]

Next of course is the main star, the comforter or duvet. If you want extra coverage a quilt or another blanket folded on top will work just as well. Also remember to stock up on blankets because you will need them!

Enveloping your bed in comfort

Don’t forget the pillows! Your neck can get stiff during the colder months so you will need lots of pillows, at least two of course, or four or more. Is it time you invested in some new ones? Depending on the materials used a pillow can last for as little as 6 months with some lasting up to 8 years. Here is how to find out, If it’s a feather or down pillow place it on a table, fold it in half and squeeze out the air. Let the pillow go and if it unfolds itself back to its original shape then it means the filling still has enough support in it. If it doesn’t spring back then it’s lost its support and needs replacing.

If it’s a synthetic pillow (polyester, hollowfibre, microfibre) then place it on a table, fold it in half and place a small weight on it, around 300g (e.g. a decent paperback). If the pillow springs back to shape whilst flinging off the weight then it still has enough support, if not, chuck it and buy a new one.

Lighting your bedroom

Lighting is also important to keep a cold room bright and full of energy, it also plays a part in romance. Your room may feel dark during the cold months and this is where good lighting comes in to play.

Surround your bed with candles, you can also use scented ones that not only give off a soft glow but they also fill the room with a warm aroma bringing romance into the room . Romance is great during the winter months, it can really boost your mood and body temperature!

In the winter time you are probably thinking about closing your curtains or adding them, especially in your bedroom to keep the cold air from circulating. To keep the warmth from escaping an option that some people use is to seal your windows with plastic although there are other Eco-friendly options out there that are great to try.

When you wake up in the cold months, sometimes the floor can be so cold, it’s unbearable. Health wise your feet are the first things that should be taken care of,especially during this time. So keep your tootsies warm, by placing a rug underneath your bed and keep your slippers and robe within easy reach.

Bring warmth into your home and on your table by adding earthy fall colors to your decor. The vignettes you create for your decor need not be expensive, especially when creating gorgeous fall table centerpieces. Look around you and take inspiration from nature. Walk around a park and you will find a multitude of colorful leaves, broken twigs and pine cones. Here are a few ideas to help you get started:

1. Fall table centerpieces: Decorating with fall leaves

Collect fall leaves in different colors. Bunch these up with pine needles, dried berries, flowers and acorns. Create a beautiful table centerpiece with these. Empty the insides of a large orange pumpkin and place your arrangement in it. The colors of the centerpiece will instantly add warmth to your table setting.

Fall leaves are a beautiful way of adding warm colors to your table decor

Image via: country living

[ad#co-1]

2. Decorating with white pumpkins:

This year, white pumpkins are emerging as a trend when it comes to fall decorating. Everywhere you look online, there is a surge in the sale of the white variety. These look fresh, fun and brighten the décor. In case you cannot find white ones, just paint the usual orange pumpkins. Keep it simple and scatter small white pumpkins on your wooden dining table for a rustic charm. To add some color, place these over a bright orange or red table cloth.

White pumpkins instantly brighten up the table decor

Image via: Censational Girl

3. Decorating with pine cones:

Another simple yet effective idea for table decor is to decorate with pine cones. The rich brown color provides a contrast to the deep oranges, greens and rusts. You can paint half the pine cone with a metallic color like gold to add a glamorous feel. Experiment with metallic glitter and other colors. Natural brown pine cones look great with both bright greens and muted rusts.

A rich brown color of the pine cones is a great way to add contrast to brighter colors

Image via: Shelterness

4. Fall Table Centerpieces: Decorating with candles:

Candles are a great way to add warmth to your fall tablescape. Instead of buying expensive scented candles, you can create these are home. Cover your non- scented candle with cinnamon sticks. Tie a jute twine or ribbon to hold these together. You can also place coffee beans in a small glass container and then add a tea-light to it. When the candles burn, they will give off the aroma of cinnamon and coffee.

Create your own scented candles for the table with cinnamon sticks

Image via: homeandgarden blog

Bring the look of your fall table decor together by serving some warm, fall inspired dishes. Use elements from your table decor to spruce up your dinner ware, make acorn napkin rings, place a small white pumpkin in the dinner plate and other such simple ideas.

Olioboard Inspiration #37

‘Decorating with Natural Fall Elements ’ – Xiomara Zayas

Who doesn’t fall in love with the autumn when it begins to show its spectacular natural beauty and its countless elements. It’s autumnal fragrances, amazing trees, lovely leaves in various colors and hues all abounded around us; dream and imagine part of that splendiferous nature in your living space.

If you are a lover of nature, immerse yourself in the inspiration that autumn brings. Express your creativity and bring in some natural autumnal touches to your space with those elements that reflect your personality.

Bringing Nature into your Interiors this Fall

Look around your home, you may already have some of these elements on which you can enhance. Wooden furniture, ceilings or wood floors can be accentuated with other autumnal ornaments and make the most of them. You can leave the windows undressed in specific areas so as to allow the natural light to flood the room and to have a clear view of the forever changing colours of autumn.

Collect branches!!!, they are fabulous. There are a thousand ways to incorporate these into your décor on the walls and in table arrangements. A large branch adorned with leaves and spices hanging from the ceiling with candles makes a great centrepiece. The best thing about branches is that they are excellent for any season of the year and their leaves are incredibly decorative especially by their rich colors. You can create unique ornaments using pine cones, dried flowers and gourds in assorted colors which provide a mix of textures and don’t forget to include some elements of forest deer and birds to your displays.

Enlightening Senses in your Home

The fruits harvested of this season and spices such as cinnamon, cloves and anise are a tremendous option for the autumn décor. In addition to their warmth and color, they retain their fragrance which fills your home with a rich spicy aroma. Speaking of aromas remember to add scented candles, they offer you one of the warmest and inviting natural elements; Fire.

Decorating with natural fall elements is so simple; just let the autumn inspire you and allow your creativity to flow. Surround yourself with the warmth and harmony that autumn offers you and enjoy it to the maximum. Happy Autumn days!!!

Fall’s here, fall’s there everywhere we look around! Autumn home decorating for this time of year can be one of the perks of the season. But sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming when switching out the summer décor for the fall décor. So to make sure that you decorate your home in the fall style that you want and not have so much of a hassle, here are a few tips in getting your home ready for fall!

Simple Autumn Home Decorating Ideas this Season

Autumn pumpkins decor

Image via: Pottery Barn

[ad#co-1]

Out with the Old and in with the New

The first thing you want to do is remove any décor and accessories that belong with other season that are not fall. Take those items and place them on a shelf in the garage, hallway closet or in the attic/basement for next year. Also, to make more room for the fall décor remove some “non-seasonal” items. That way the room will be less cluttered and the fall décor will be able to stand out more.

Autumn ideas to transition your home

Image via: Farm Girl Follies

Keep it Simple and Basic – Autumn Home Decorating

Don’t over analyze the décor but start off by asking questions about what inspires you during the fall season. Such as, “What colors, textures and patterns of the fall make you feel the most comfortable?” or “What activities do you like to do during the fall?” These questions are meant to help you to incorporate the personal “feel” into the décor rather than just getting the same fall ornaments seen year round. You do not have to go overload on the decorating. If you prefer the less is more approach that is fine. Just change out some throw pillows, put out some books or a wreath that are inspired from the fall season.

Rooms Inspired by the Fall Season

Image via: Pinterest

Decorate in Time Frames

All of your fall décor does not have to come out at one time and during the month of September. Try putting out, for the month of September, the few fall inspired throw pillows, a warm throw, tree branches etc. Then for the month of October you can put out the pumpkins and scarecrows. By breaking up the times that you decorate you can save yourself a major headache from trying to gather everything at once and figure out where and how it should go into your home.

Add Scents of the Season

Fall Aromas

Image via: The Inspired Room

The scent of the fall is one of the most memorable things of the season. So bring that into your home as well. You can purchase any sets of candles, oils, potpourri, scented pinecones, etc. to help you bring the fall aromas within your home. When you go to buy these items look for scents like cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and cloves to help give off the fall smell within your home. Now take some of the tips and suggestions above and see how they workout from you and your home. Be inspired and enjoy!

It’s time to start thinking about fall decorating! Oh the crunch of leaves under our feet, the crisp clean air that drifts in through open windows, and the smell of bonfires burning just make me mellow and content. Renewed by the cool breezes, it seems a perfectly logical time to renew our homes, as well. Decorating our homes for fall can be so easy, inexpensive and fun – just use nature’s bounty! Here are some great tips to decorate your home this season from the offerings of mother nature.

Decorating Your Fall Home With Organic & Natural Elements

Adorable Acorns Decorate this Vase

Image via: Pinterest

[ad#co-1]

Take a Hike:

There is no better way to wind down with the family then by taking a wooded walk. Have the kids each bring a bag or knapsack and ask them all to collect items from the woods. Tell them that everything will work – such as pinecones, leaves, sticks, acorns, and even pebbles.

Once you are refreshed and invigorated from your walk, pour out everyone’s findings and begin to brainstorm. Here are a couple ideas, but be creative and come up with more yourself.

Collect Nature’s Bounty Along the Trails

Image Via Pinterest

Make a Wreath:

One great thing to do with all those leaves is to press them flat in a large book for a couple nights. Once dry, you can glue the leaves onto a simple grapevine wreath that can be bought at any craft store. Using your hot glue gun, cover the wreath with leaves and fill in any blank spaces with acorns, pinecones or ribbon.

Decorate your fall door with a welcoming wreath

Image via: Many Hats of Mom

Make a Centerpiece:

The perfect fall centerpiece doesn’t have to be perfect at all! Line the center of your table with burlap, making a nice rustic runner. Then fill three large glass vases or urns with all your findings. For example, pour pebbles on the bottom of the urn, followed by layers of acorns, and leaves – keep repeating this pattern until the vase is full.

Fall centerpiece ideas

Image via: Twenty Three Oh One

Voila! Line these up along the center of the burlap runner and you have the perfect table scape.

Today we continue Stagetecture’s feature ‘Olioboard Inspiration‘. Last week you enjoyed – ‘Creating Valuable Space with Bedroom Storage‘ from John Nuter and this week we get inspired with the coming of Autumn in our dining room! Sammi Holloway who is a member of the Facebook Olioboard Fan Room gets you inspired with creative color, texture, and natural ideas for your dining room this Autumn.

If you’re interested in being featured see details here: How to be featured on Stagetecture’s Olioboard Inspiration‘ series.

Olioboard Inspiration #31

‘Autumn Color Dining Room Inspiration ’ – Sammi Holloway

Mother Nature has unleashed her vibrant palette of golds, coppers, yellows and reds so why not bring a touch of Autumn into your dining room.

With the darker evenings setting in there is nothing better than sitting down to a hearty meal of seasonally inspired dishes with your loved ones.

Autumn inspiration for your guests

Be inspired by nature with its remarkable multicolored hues and wonderful scents. Then out walking, pick up fallen twigs or small branches with red or golden leaves. Bring in some greenery, golden gourds, orange pumpkins, fresh flowers and interesting branches. The simplest decorations are usually the most effective.

Wreaths can be used to decorate a wall or even used as a centerpiece with a pillar candle placed in the middle.

[ad#co-1]

Scented candles add to the autumnal atmosphere. Not only does the twinkling of candles create a romantic ambience within your home, they also induce a beautiful aroma.Choose scents that reflect the season, such as cinnamon and cloves. They keep you feeling warm and encompass the room with luminous accent lighting.

Dining room embellishments from Autumn

From dinnerware with woodland themes to beautiful organic materials, the dinner table is the place to unite these inspirational elements in a coordinated fashion. Adorn your dining table with a mix of antique and reproduction creamware, vintage amber glasses and dessert plates that will compliment your fall decorating scheme.

Enhance the look of your dining table décor with some shimmering glass beaded accents, colourful table linens and festive napkin rings

Add warmth during the cool season with a cozy, wool accent rug and heavier, textured curtains in fall colours.

Create an evening to remember with seasonal place setting ideas that everyone will love. Take dried leaves and decorate each with your guests name using a gold metallic pen or attach a metal plant tag to stem fruit and write on it using a permanent black marker.

You may want to consider temporarily replacing some of your wall art with more seasonal pictures and artwork displays.

Remember the dining room table isn’t the only place to display beautiful decorations. The buffet table or sideboard is the perfect place to go for gold with lavish displays.
