When I say yellow, I don’t literally mean only yellow! What I mean to emphasize is the fact that bright accent colors are just perfect for front doors during summers. You can use bright yellows, jazzy reds or striking apple greens. The idea is to add color to the dry and lifeless summers. Isn’t it nice if the front door brings a whiff of fresh air into the dull outsides.

A Checkered Pattern

Summers are all for transparency. Don’t we love to use light curtains and see through divider screens in our interiors? Well, the outdoor home deserves some transparency too! Use a checkered pattern as shown in the image below. Let the basic framework be carved out of wood and the square inserts be decked with glass. If you are worried about the door fitting into winter attire later in the year, use frosted or echoed glass instead.

4th of July Decor: DIY Patriotic Wreath (Video)

4th of July Wreath Supplies

12″ metal wreath form

6 inch white ribbon or plain burlap ribbon

6 inch blue burlap ribbon

6 inch red burlap ribbon

Floral wire

Ribbon for hanging the wreath

Hot glue gun

White stars or other patriotic decoration

Instructions

1. To begin, cut a few 6 inch long pieces out of the flower wire using a wire cutter and set them aside.
2. Notice that the wire wreath is made out of sections. You can use those sections as guides for changing the burlap colors depending on the result you are going for. For this tutorial we will fill two continuous sections with blue burlap, and then fill the next section with red burlap and the next with white (or plain) burlap, continuing in this matter until we reach the blue burlap again. You could of course choose a different way to separate the wreath and interchange colors.
3. To start weaving the burlap, take the end of the blue burlap ribbon and fold it into half lengthwise. Fold it again in half and wrap a piece of wire around it. Secure the end by using the same wire or a new wire piece. Cut away any excess wire.
4. Start from the bottom opening and weave the burlap through the wires of the wreath by pulling it through the openings in order to make loops, just as it is shown in the video. When you have made three loops, turn the wreath over and twist the burlap a couple of times. Now, repeat the weaving process row by row. Whenever you complete a row, push the ribbon to the side so you can add more burlap. When you are done with the two blue ribbon sections, cut the burlap and secure the end with some wire. Proceed to the next section, repeating the process with red and then white (plain) burlap until you complete the wreath. Now you can fluff the loops a little bit with your fingers.
5. Continue all the way around the wreath form pushing the loops close together as you go. When the wreath is done, cut the end about 4 inches long and weave it through the wreath form to secure.
6. Use the hot glue gun or some wire pieces to add the decorations you have prepared.

It might take you a little bit to perfect the weaving process, but once you begin with it you will soon be able to complete the wreath in a glimpse. Let your imagination guide you and choose some patriotic items to decorate the wreath, like small USA flags, wooden letters that spell USA or other embellishments. The countdown is on to Easter and it is time to plan for an Easter ‘eggs-travaganza’ for your kids or the whole neighborhood. Hunting for decorated, colorful eggs is a well-known tradition of Easter. You can easily make the hunt more exciting by stashing eggs in unexpected places rather than hitting up the usual hiding areas.

Plan for a Scavenger Hunt

Instead of asking the kids to collect all the eggs they find, plan for a scavenger hunt. Give each child a paper slip clearly stating how many and the kinds of eggs s/he needs to find out. For example, a slip can read like find 2 red eggs with black polka dots, 4 blue eggs with green stripes, and one pink egg. Tell the kids to be careful about not to bring any egg outside of her/his list. You should also take care that there are enough eggs of each kind so that children can complete their list.

Set up a Fortune Hunt

For a small number of children, an egg treasure hunt can be a real thrill. Fix a specific color for each child and prepare different set of clues for each of them. Hide the clues in various places and give each of them the first clue. The treasure can be an Easter basket full of chocolates, candies, and jellybeans.

While back yards, parks, or community centers are good places to arrange for an egg hunt, kids can get bored if it occurs at the same place every year. You can pick a different location every year and take your kids there so that the hunt appears interesting to them.

Nighttime Hunt

Setting the Easter egg hunt at nighttime can be real fun for kids. However, it is only suitable for older kids and teens. Hide the eggs at a park or around the yard. Give each kid a basket and a flashlight after it becomes dark around. For easy hunting, you can either paint the eggs in bright colors or color them with paint that glows in the dark.

Tricky Indoor Hunt

You can shift the hunt indoor if the weather gets bad outside. Indoor hunts can be fun if you can plan it craftily. Use throw pillows, stuffed animals, or sculptures to hide the eggs. Funky accessories and objects have loads of nooks and corners for hiding. Stuffed animals can be used by positioning them like holding or about to eat the eggs. Artistic pieces and pen or other type of holders can be good sneaky egg hiders.

Set the difficulty level of the hunt according to the age of the hunters. If the participants are too young, hide the eggs in plain sight for them. In addition, make sure to keep the eggs below knee level so that the littlest ones can enjoy their day.

Grass Candles

Grass candles are a simplistic way to add color and variety to your home during the Easter holiday.  In order to create these decorative candles you would first need to purchase light-colored pillars, nonflammable all-purpose glue stick, and blades of wheat grass or grass from outside of your home whichever works best for you.  Take the glue and paste each blade of grass to the candle making sure to fold the bottom of the blades underneath the bottom of the candle.  (For the best natural look, glue the blades at varying lengths and turning at different directions imitating nature’s pattern).

Easter Egg Garlands

Put something to brighten up the mantel, staircase, table lining, and top of the door or hallway opening.  An Easter egg garland would the ideal asset for accomplishing this task. To do an Easter egg garland then get three dozens eggs and drill one tiny hole on opposite sides of each egg. Once the holes have been made then blow out the yoke, then dip the empty eggs in dye and let dry after drying put the eggs on a stretchable jewelry cord.  Lastly choose the placement of the garland.

Easter egg and carnation nesting center pieces would be a great accessory for the whole dining table presentation.  Hard boil the eggs and dye them (different colors and designs if you like) then purchase some carnations a dozen should be good (you can use other flowers if you like) and cut the buds off and place the buds in a circular pattern on the dish.  Next, take the dyed hard boiled eggs and set them in the center of the circle and there you have your centerpiece.

Egg planters, these miniature floral arrangements are great for little pops of color and freshness around the table.  First, begin with cracking the egg at the top and carefully cleaning it out with water.  After rinsing out the egg shell then fill the bottom layer with water and a scoop of dirt then take small cuts of your favorite flowers and place them within the egg (while doing this process set the egg shells in the carton for stability).  When everything has been set in place if you have small egg shaped dishes to put the eggs in that would be fantastic and you could place the planters in them if not then just leave the arrangements in the carton and place them wherever you would like.
