If you are up for an exotic yet elegant look for your home, you should consider the Moroccan style decor. It’s beautiful, warm, and, ornate. Moroccan designs are a perfect blend of European and Moorish influences displaying a wonderful union of style and architecture. This fusion of French, Arab, Spanish, and Berber style art deco looks very exotic and appeals to many. The best feature of Moroccan style decoration is, you don’t have to perk up the entire room, a few simple accessories, or touch ups will do the trick!

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-46450 " title="Rich textures and patterns are typical of Moroccan decor.
Furnishings

Moroccan interiors are busy in pattern but often simple in furniture. Set low to the ground, some pieces like tables and poufs are inviting and can be decorated quite intricately. Moroccan furnishings rely heavily on elaborate wrought ironwork and carved wood.

Use of Textures

Rich textures and patterns are typical of Moroccan décor. Elaborate throw pillow and cushions made from luxurious fabrics are one of the important accessories of their style. Fusion of multiple shapes and textures are ideal. You can also choose to have dark wood plank floors covered with plush Persian or natural fiber rugs. Draping rich elaborate fabric from the ceilings can also be interesting.

Infuse your home with beautiful Moroccan lighting

Image via: MyCraftWork -Aneessa Luxury Brass Lamp

Moroccan Lighting

Lighting plays an essential role in Moroccan style decoration. Focused on dim lighting, fancy lamps and lanterns made from colored glass, carved wood, or, cut metal are just so Moorish in style. Using candles in these traditional lamps will further add some mystery to the beautiful and elegant décor. Chandeliers, hanging pendants, wall scones are equally good lightning choices. Moroccan lighting fixtures are particularly unique and are quite different from those used in other parts of the globe but you can easily find some great options online.

Romantic Mirrors

Enhance the ambiance of your interiors with decorative Moroccan mirrors

Image via: Flickr – Annie

Decorative mirrors enhance the ambiance of any Moroccan interior. Opt-in for painted or dyed mirrors made from wrought iron or deeply carved wood. Onion dome-shaped frames or jewel embellishments are perfect examples. Overall, if you have an appreciation for colors, Moroccan mirrors will never disappoint you.

Decorating your home the Moroccan way is the latest trend these days. Influenced by many cultures, when it comes to Moroccan decorations, there’s something to be found for everyone.

Guest Blogger #597, Entry #1388, July 17, 2012

Whether you’ve moved into your first home away from home or you’ve recently downgraded due to unfortunate circumstances like divorce or a demotion at work, you might find yourself living in a postage-stamp-sized apartment with limited possibilities when it comes to interior design. You may have grandiose notions about a California king bed, a formal dining room, and a sectional sofa with seating for six, but those will have to wait for a larger residence. For now you’re stuck with a truncated space that probably won’t even fit the items you currently own. So once you’ve sold off your oversized furniture you can start getting down to the business of designing the small interior space for maximum efficiency and a little personal flair. Here are just a few tips to help you on your way.

Brighten your small apartment with light furnishings

Image via

[ad#co-1]

Choosing the right colors

The first thing to consider in the design process is your color palette and how the right hues can affect your space. Although a common trick is to paint the ceiling white in order to make small spaces appear larger, that doesn’t necessarily help you to choose the remaining colors for your apartment. However, you should know that dark or saturated shades can not only make a space seem smaller, they can also be overpowering. For this reason you might want to choose light neutrals and pale shades for walls and carpeting and then throw in accents in bolder colors to let your personality shine through. Another good trick is to place mirrors strategically throughout your space in order to make the most of any natural light coming in as well as create the visual illusion that your rooms are larger than they are.

Small apartments can have character

Image via

Choosing the perfect furniture

The next thing to consider is furniture, and while you almost certainly have to think about limiting the number and size of pieces in your apartment, it doesn’t necessarily mean you must live in a hobbit hole full of half-sized furnishings. You can find many ways to fit the right items in, provide for all of your needs (sleeping, entertaining, and so on), and still have the light and airy open space you desire (to an extent). This can be done first through the use of modular furnishings, or those that are made to fit together and come with many options for adding on. So you might start with a small sofa and add a couple of chairs from the same collection, along with side tables and an entertainment center to hold electronics, media, books, and display pieces. Many will items will have options for stacking so that you can expand and use vertical space when you don’t want to take up any more of your floor plan.

Use multifunctional furniture in your space

Image via

Go for multifunctional furnishings

Of course, multifunctional furnishings are another great option. If you don’t have enough space for your king-size bed AND your dresser, thinks about getting a bed frame that has storage underneath (either built-in drawers or clearance for bins to hold your clothing). For the living room you can get seating or ottomans that have hidden storage compartments inside. And even if you only have a breakfast nook that accommodates a small dining set, get a drop-leaf table or one that has a cabinet built into the base. You probably know that apartment rentals are notorious for a lack of usable space, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find myriad ways to make the most of it through planning and design. So try these tips and watch your tiny apartment magically expand.

This was my first time going to a market, and seeing firsthand what buyers will be putting in the stores for you was awesome! From lighting and furnishings to textiles, rugs, and decor, it was an eye-opening experience. In the upcoming weeks I will do a feature on Freshome of my finds.

Guest Blogger #308, Entry #853, December 21, 2011

When it comes to designing (or updating) your home office, you may be looking for a way to take your space into the 21st century. And your first thought is probably to do this will technology. But the truth is, there’s a lot more to making your office space modern than simply purchasing a new laptop; you need to ditch the oversized desk and filing cabinets that your parent gave you and get furnishings that are both functional and fitting for your newer home. So here are just a few helpful hints to get you on track for an office that will provide you with the workable space you desire, and wow any friends or clients you happen to bring in.

Tips for achieving a modern home office

Image via: Designers.Elle Decor

[ad#co-1]

Suitable desk with storage

That old rolltop may hold sentimental value, but unless you’re working on a typewriter it probably isn’t suitable for your office needs. While you could probably fit a laptop in there, you’re computer setup will certainly be problematic (at the very least you’ll have unsightly cables hanging off the front of the desk). So think about getting a modern desk that comes with plenty of modular storage solutions (dividers in drawers for your office supplies, for example) as well as the versatility to expand down the line.

Ergonomic chair

Forget about the uncomfortable wooden chairs and dangerous rolling contraptions of yesteryear. If you splurge on only one item in your home office, blow your dough on an ergonomic chair that will align your spine and help you stave off the aches and pains that come with old-school office chairs. While you’re at it, you might also thinking about getting yourself an ergonomic keyboard. Using these two items in concert will ensure proper posture and protect your spine.

Celebrity chef -Giada De Laurentiis home office

Image via: Architectural Digest

Shelving and bins

Don’t want to clutter up your space with a slew of mismatched filing cabinets (that are only good for housing files)? It’s time to get modern with some storage that better suits your needs. So consider putting in some shelving units, then stock them with bins that can hold file folders, bills, books, magazines, and anything else you might need to store. If you go with bright white shelves and colored bins you can create a look that is functional, modern, and suits your personal aesthetic.

Equipment

You are probably well aware of the basic equipment needed for a modern home office, such as a computer or laptop and a printer. But there are a few other pieces of equipment that could be viewed as essential. If you’re worried about identity theft, for example, you should definitely have a shredder to dispose of sensitive documents. Or forego documents altogether (in favor of a virtual filing system) with an external hard drive for backup. You may also want a webcam (especially if you telecommute), a flat panel monitor that you can hang on the wall (for extra desk space), and of course, a smart phone that you can connect to your computer if you need access on the go.

Update your old office to a beautiful modern one!

Image via: Decor Pad

Services

Hardware is a good place to start, but you’re going to need some services to make your equipment useful. You can start with a great wireless internet package, then compare web hosting plans (if you want your own blog or you run a home-based business). And whether you need your office for communications, file storage, your business, or all of the above, there are dozens of software solutions that can get you connected and ensure that all of your needs are met when it comes to the many functions of your modern home office.

Guest Blogger #291, Entry #824, December 9, 2011

Although most of us purchase homes that are already built, that doesn’t mean that we can’t arrange and fill our spaces in a way that is in keeping with our eco-friendly sensibilities. And of course, upgrades and additions to an existing structure can also be performed in a manner that is less harmful to the environment. So if you’re interested in implementing a design process in your new home that allows you to reduce your carbon footprint along the way, here are a few tips and tricks that will get you on track to meet all of your home design goals.

Green your home with worthwhile upgrades

Image via: UUL Design

[ad#co-1]

Furnishings

Now that you’ve got your interior prepped it’s time for some fun with decorating. If you have furnishings that you love already, consider keeping them and simply giving them an upgrade with new upholstery or a coat of paint. And if you need new pieces, consider supporting area craftspeople or purchasing from companies that create environmentally friendly furnishings.

Walls

The absolute easiest way to give your interior spaces a facelift is to paint the walls, and it’s easy to add some panache with low- or no-VOC paint products. These hues eschew volatile organic compounds that could pollute your indoor air for years to come and cause respiratory problems (and far worse). And with all of the options for colors, finishes, and more you’ll have plenty of choices when it comes to personalizing your home.

Wall interiors are an easy eco-friendly upgrade

Image via: Ikrunk

Flooring

Another popular upgrade for most homes is flooring. And while this process can be exceedingly harmful to the planet, there are definitely ways to green it up. For example, rather than sending old flooring to the landfill, see if it can be recycled. Synthetic-fiber carpets can be steam-cleaned and sold as remnants (as long as your cat hasn’t been using them for a litter box) and flooring tiles or planks can potentially be refurbished and resold. As for the new flooring you put in, consider using eco-friendly products like faux stone, reclaimed hardwood, or organic-fiber carpeting.

Storage

It’s easy to go green with cabinetry. If your cupboards are structurally sound and meet your requirements for functionality, there’s no need to replace them. Simply upgrade with a new stain or a coat of paint or have them refaced for less waste. And if they must go, look into options for recycling (sell them for refurbishing and resale or pawn them off for scrap). And when you purchase new cabinets, consider reclaimed options; you can get beautiful hardwoods at a fraction of the cost and reduce the demand for deforestation.

Lighting

Natural light is always best, so consider knocking out a few walls to create that open floor plan you’ve been dreaming of, or simply place a variety of mirrors strategically throughout the space to bounce light everywhere (alleviating the need for electrical lighting throughout the day). And for evenings, install energy saving CFLs (which fit standard fixtures) or even more-efficient LEDs.

Natural lighting can save energy and beautify your interiors

Accessories

The finishing touches, like lamps, linens, and so on can also be surprisingly green. Linens (curtains, throws, pillows, etc.) made from organic fabrics are a must. And for a few quirky pieces to decorate your space, hit up garage sales, thrift stores, and Craigslist with a creative eye. You’d be surprised what you can do with a few bucks and a little ingenuity.

If you are like many homeowners, your home office gets more attention than other rooms of your home. Whether its because of the use of the internet, and paying bills, or your occupation demands you have a place to work from home. Either way, setting up a productive home office can always be a challenge. Today’s Guest Blogger give 5 tips for helping you make your home office perfect for your home lifestyle.

How productive is your current home office?

____________________________

When initially setting up a home office, one can take a few steps to ensure that the home office is efficient and emanates an energetic vibe that creates a productive home office.
Space is no obstacle. Whether you are dedicating a corner of a spare bedroom to your home office or you have a full basement that is awaiting transformation into your next home office, the following tips will help you get started with a solid foundation.

[ad#co-1]

1. Proper furnishings are essential

When first creating a home office, it is tempting to use an old table that has been unused in the garage for a few years or a comfortable lounge chair that seems inviting. Resist that temptation, and acquire proper office furnishings. An ergonomic setting is ideal, and affords suitability for long workdays. Purchase a desk that is appropriate for your particular use. If extra storage is anticipated, search for a desk that has adequate drawer space. If your line of work does not require the need for drawers, but you do require a large flat surface for viewing plats, documents, or drawings, then eliminate those desks with storage that will not be necessary.

Ergonomic seating is critical to your productivity as well. Choose an office chair that fits your posture and preferences.

Proper furnishings can make your home office functional

2. Efficient equipment

Utilizing equipment that is efficient and effective will enhance your productivity immensely. Consider utilizing ìall-in-oneî devices. For example, an all-in-one printer allows you to scan, copy, print, and fax documents. Ensure that the computer that you are using is operating optimally. If not, consider replacing it with a newer, more efficient model. The time that you will save in the end is beyond measure. When you have a client waiting for an urgent response on that proposal, you cannot afford to have a computer that takes 10-minutes to display such a pdf document. In addition, by using a laptop, your home office is now mobile in a sense because you can work while you are away from your home office.

3. Effective and efficient set-up

The amount of space is not as critical to your productivity as is the actual setup of your contents. Maximize the space that you do have allotted for your home office. Use wall-mountable bookshelves above your desk. If file cabinets are necessary, utilize the top of the cabinet as well. Position your phone, and computer within close proximity of each other. As well as any necessary filing cabinets and office supplies. Storing necessary files in the basement is not efficient if your home office is located on the third floor. Keep everything close by. Possibly invest in a wireless headset for your phone. This enhances the ability to multi-task throughout the day.

Decorate comfortably in your home office

4. Decorate comfortably

Use comfortable hues in your home office. Painting the walls is not a necessity. Simply bringing in a lively piece of art to hang adjacent to your workspace is sufficient. Place live plants throughout your home office. Place pictures of your family, pets, and loved ones throughout your office. Ultimately, bringing a sense of security, and comfort into your home office will enhance productivity. Ensure proper lighting. If windows are available, be sure to keep them unobstructed. Let the light shine through.

5. Schedule adherence

Once settled into your home office, create a daily schedule and focus on adhering to it. Do a weekly recap of your tasks of the following week. This entails clearing the desk on a weekly basis, and effectively transitioning into future tasks. Beginning a new week with a clear desk allows you to start the week with a renewed outlook.

On the lookout for cheap ink cartridges, Tom Walker is usually at work reviewing and testing Epson ink and other printing supplies.

You can spend a fortune on designer furniture, custom drapery, high-end finishes, and beautiful wall decor. At the end of the day, if you don’t have enough natural light pouring into a space, none of the other decor items matter.

Natural light is the key to humans feeling at home, welcome and comfortable in their habitat. Ever notice when you’re in a bad mood you want to retreat to a dark space? Then when you walk into a room with ample natural light, you instantly feel like you have a pick-me-up!

Look at these beautiful spaces that all have natural light. Each one has a “come and stay” vibe to them, I love it!

Pair dark and light colors together in a room with plenty of light

Put a comfortable chair next to a window and it instantly becomes the best seat in the house.

Who wouldn’t want to curl up in the sitting area?

Natural light in the bathroom makes all the difference in the world when waking up in the morning. It also helps see your natural skin in a true light, and it will make you feel happier.

White marble, gleaming porcelain tiles, pure serenity!

Bring natural light into your kitchen and see how much time you love to spend there.

If you can see outside while you cook, your food will come alive!

If you don’t have bright and airy spaces, consider using shear drapery to bring in more light. If the colors are too dark in your home, consider painting with a lighter color palette. You will thank yourself after you let more light into your living spaces.
