Smaller spaces are easier to manage, maintain and clean, however they bring their share of challenges and struggles with them. For the ladies, the challenges and struggles come down to one word- Storage. The key is to find those Hidden Storage spots that you thought never existed. Hidden Storage just awaits its discovery, so flex your minds a bit, be prepared for some off beat solutions and try to think a little out of the box. Today we will help you discover the Hidden Storage In Your Compact Bedroom Space.

Finding Hidden Storage In Your Small Bedroom

Creating Storage For Compact Bedroom Spaces

[ad#co-1]

Multiple Storage

When limited to the confines of a smaller bedroom space one needs to greatly consider using multiple storage types. Let us take the example of a simple nightstand. A nightstand that comes with a little drawer or cabinet space below enables you to use not only the surface but also the hidden storage space below-the space that is likely to go unused if it is a simple ‘surface only’ nightstand. Cabinet type storage can become a good space for books and smaller drawers can help you organize jewelry, small paperwork and other minuscule stuff that likely remains scattered and creates the biggest mess.

Multi-use Nightstand

Image Via: HGTV

A Shelf Above The Bed Headboard

The challenge in smaller spaces is to eliminate the visual mess and turn it into an organized clutter. Shelves come in handy. If you think of it, the space above your bed’s headboard is often under-utilized or not used at all. This space is a potential hidden storage and an excellent one at that because you will not bang your head on this one.

Shelf Storage

Image Via: Modern Home Interior Design

The Hidden Storage Space Beneath The Bed

Volumes of potential storage space under your bed often goes unused. Won’t it be a good idea to opt for beds that have built in storage? If that is not a possibility, consider storing your packed boxes and suitcases neatly under your bed.

Hidden Storage In The Bed

Image Via: This Old House

Hidden Storage Behind Closet Doors

To the back of your closet and vanity doors, fix some hooks, grab bars and suchlike hardware that helps you store stuff like scarfs, a dress, jewelry, make up accessories, shoes, clothes or even a vanity mirror.

Hidden Storage Behind Doors

Image Via: BHG

A Storage Unit Around Your Bed

We have spoken of utilizing the space above your bed and the space below or nightstands but did it occur to you that a well designed storage compartment behind and around your bed can do so much more. This storage unit can neatly organize your clutter and make available so much of hidden storage that you could never imagine. You can stack your books, artifacts, storage boxes and so much more here.

Ingenious Bedroom Planning

Image Via: Tazatek

Compact Spaces present before you some challenges as far as designing goes but it also provides you with some unthought of opportunities–in the form of Hidden Storage spaces. A little clever designing and thinking on your part can help you organize and store your stuff so much better in a smaller space. Going in for furniture that is multipurpose and versatile is a big step to success and so is some ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking. We would be happy to hear from you, on how you have organized your compact bedroom space. Do write in.

Try these easy DIY tips for enhancing your bedroom with an awesome focal point.

Easy DIY: How to Makeover your Upholstered Headboard

Upholstered headboard shows off this home owner’s style

Image via: Pinterest

Bedroom makeover is pretty much going into your advantage than anyone else. It’s where you rest after a busy day’s work. So, anything you do to make your bedroom a pleasurable area is definitely a great idea. Check out this easy DIY makeover idea using a new upholstered bedroom headboard:

[ad#co-1]

Procedure

1. Fabric can do the trick. Start by choosing a fabric design that is pleasing to your eye. Make sure that you have enough of this fabric to cover everything in front and back of the headboard of about 5 inches.

2. Then, Secure the center with a staple but ensure that the top edge of the headboard is properly wrapped. This is roughly about 3 inches from the edge. Perform these steps carefully to avoid misaligned fabric formation.

3. Pull fabric tightly on the opposite sides or edges and staple securely. You can staple all the surrounding edges but make sure that it will not look messy with all the staples. Also, don’t forget to pull the fabric tight before you staple. This will create a snappy and elegant look of the fabric in the headboard.

Create a DIY headboard that is uniquely yours

Image via: Houzz

4. As for the corners, stop your staple at around 3 inches from the corner. The unstapled fabric will be folded at a corner and neatly tuck it in underneath. This will provide the neat finish of your fabric that is covering the headboard.

5. Staple the folded areas on each corner. Keep the folds flat and even.

That’s how quick and easy it is to makeover your bedroom headboard. You can even do this over a weekend or make it a project that takes a few days to complete!

Use a quilt as a headboard or make one!

Draping a quilt over your bed frame will do a quick makeover in your bedroom. Depending on the design of your quilt, it will create an illustration of having a stylish headboard or even make your bed more elegant and sophisticated. All you have to do is to look into your quilts and assess which one will best fit your bed frame.

Quilt headboard ideas

Make use of artwork to conceal cords

This idea is definitely a creative way to make your interior look organize and neat. Not only that you can cover-up the cords but also making your wall corners more decorative. Your guests will feel like walking into an art gallery along the way. It will capture the interest of your guests while covering the wires and cords behind.

Artwork concealing cords

Display plants in dull corners

You can actually make a dull corner as a highlight for your interior by placing a plant from your garden. The natural and vibrant looks of plants will provide a cool ambiance in your home interior. It will certainly make a difference without having to spend something from your budget – your garden can handle it pretty well.

So, next time that you want to make an interior makeover, don’t consider your budget. All you need to consider is what you have and how you can make use of it.

In my experience as a design consultant, I have been inside clients’ homes countless times. I love to see how each person has a unique and personal sense of style, and I believe it’s very important to preserve their sense of identity when redecorating. What I like, or whatever the latest home trend is, may not be the one-size-fits-all solution for everyone. With that said, there are some décor mistakes I see repeatedly from place to place that are easily remedied without professional help. I call them “mistakes” because, even though design is incredibly flexible, these three things simply don’t work well in the overall visual aesthetics of a room. Take a look around and see if you can’t do a simple improvement right now.

The ‘Postage-Stamp’ Rug

Rugs that are too small for a room are all too common. A rug should act as an anchor that unites all the furniture groupings together by extending to reach all of them. Generally, you should leave only 18-24 inches of space between the walls and rug border all the way around or the “anchor” will feel lost and floating in the center of the room. Check here to learn more about choosing the perfect rug.

Hanging Art Too High (or Too Low)

It’s so easy to hang art or family photos on a single nail. What’s harder is hanging it at the right height. The center of the painting should be about eye level, with at least 12 inches of clearance from the ceiling. Take an extra minute to measure, and your eyes will thank you for years. To get more ideas for hanging art creatively, click here.

No Headboard

Headboards are the focal point of a bedroom, so a bed without one knocks the whole room out balance. There’s no “right” type of headboard, from wood to upholstery to even a curtain or oversized piece of wall art. The important part is to have that central aspect of the bed and to make sure that you love it. If you like to DIY, here’s a tutorial on how to make your own headboard. With these tips, you can avoid the most common decorating mistakes!

Entry #2612, July 3, 2013

For most of us, there will be a few weekends this summer when it’s just a little too hot to head outside and work in the yard. For those few days you’ll spend indoors, turn your attention to your own bedroom (or guest room) and update your headboard with an DIY project: an upholstered, tufted version for less than $100. This writer put the project off because it seemed too time-consuming, but now I know it’s an afternoon job that has a huge style impact.

Purple Tufted Headboard

Image via: Freshome Design

[ad#co-1]

You’ll need:

MDF board cut to size by your local hardware store

Foam mattress toppers (you can use regular foam, but mattress toppers are available at Walmart for a fraction of the price)

Cotton batting to wrap the MDF and foam

2-3 yards of your fabric choice, and a half-yard for buttons

A button cover kit (from your local craft store)

Decorator’s needle and thread

I chose a neutral, woven fabric for the board and a one with snippets of random text for the 8 buttons on my queen-sized bed. The best part of a custom headboard is choosing exactly what works for your room. Iron out the fabric and lay flat. If you plan to shape the top of the headboard (I left mine square), draw a stencil on wax paper and trace your design before cutting. Measure and drill a hole where each button will be. Cut the foam to lay on the front of the board, then use a staple gun to secure the cotton batting around the foam and onto the back of the headboard. Repeat with your fabric, and you have an upholstered headboard!

A close up of the author’s headboard

Image via: Jenna Gipson

If you plan to use buttons, follow the kit directions to make your buttons and use the needle and thread to go through your pre-drilled holes, thread the button, then pull taut before securing with another staple. The buttons can be in the same color as the body cloth, but this is a great place to add some fun contrast to match your bedding!

Yellow Tufted Headboard

Image via Pinterest

If your bed isn’t a low platform bed like mine, use D-rings or a French cleat to secure the headboard to the wall. Safety first! Coordinate your bedding, curtains, and accents for a room that makes you look like a pro in no time.

Happy DIY Saturday! To all of you who are trying to make a statement in your master bedroom – why not do it with a rustic reclaimed wood headboard? Today’s DIY Saturday – watch a video showing how to make a reclaimed wood headboard, then see other ways to make a focal point over your master bed.

How can you enhance your bedroom?

How to create a focal point over your master bed

Master bedroom is strictly a private place in your home where you can be completely of your own. Though it is mainly used for sleeping purpose, this room should be decorated nicely. You can bring a very dramatic and aesthetic look into your bedroom by simply creating a gorgeous focal point on the wall over the master bed.

Use decorative pieces as the focal point.

Image via: Bloombety

Use Decorative Pieces

If you do not have the ability to afford a luxurious master bed, you have to adopt a different way to create the focal point. Consider hanging some elusive artworks on the barren wall over the bed. It may not be eye catching but can still add some characters to the desolate wall. You can give a touch of grandiosity by adding one or two antique scones over the artworks. Instead of using artworks, you can create the same effect by hanging a single decorative piece on the wall over the bed. Opt for pieces that will take colors from adjacent walls and will not contend with your bed and bedding.

Create a Luxurious & Bold Statement

If you want to bring a jaw-dropping look into your bedroom, invest on a grand and expensive master bed. A bed with a majestic decorative canopy combined with wonderfully patterned headboard standing tall against the wall will look great in a bedroom. For making it more attractive, you can use bold-colored leather or fabric on the headboard. Your bed should also be soft and covered with lush sheets and comfy pillows so that it creates an inviting effect. If your bedroom is considerably high, create a nice, bottom-to-ceiling focal point by using decorative fabrics or wallpaper on the wall behind the bed.

A luxurious bed like this one is enough to create a statement.

Image via: Digs Digs

Clever Use of Light

A large window can possibly be the most inexpensive way of creating a focal point in the bedroom. A light source – natural or artificial – can be a great focal point and add an instant appeal over your bed. In case of window, you can use blinds, curtains, or cellular shades to control the sunshine. In case of artificial lighting, try to use a more diffuse light instead of a strong bulb on the ceiling. Use a nightstand lamp or a lantern covered with canvas or thin bamboo sticks to create an interesting look. A unique lighting spot can also be created by hanging a pendant light or chandelier over the bed.

Architectural Features

Architectural features can also be used as a central point of attraction. A nice furniture item or accessory made of wood or iron can instantly catch the attention. The same effect can be created with a brick or textured wall. Painting the wall behind the bed in a different way can also fulfill your purpose.

Master bedroom focal point ideas.

Image via: Interiorholic

A striking focal point will make your bed feel great. Besides highlighting the master bed, it will also enhance the look of the wall.

Imagine how your bed will look like without a headboard? Doesn’t it look like something is missing and incomplete? That’s how headboard works not only in your bed but in your bedroom interior as well. A headboard can provide an attractive view in your bedroom instantly. Perhaps it is safe to say that a headboard carries out a bedroom interior to its fullness.

But having a headboard is not enough. It should be able to blend and match your bedroom interior. Otherwise, your headboard will be just another accessory in the room. Your headboard should stand-out and command attention. It should be the focal point of the whole interior.

Upholstered headboard idea

[ad#co-1]

Here are some wonderful ideas on how to choose the perfect headboard:

Consider the dimension of your room

Keep in mind that your headboard should be in proportion with the size of your bedroom. For instance, large room needs to have a proportionally large headboard. An oversized headboard can dwarf the area of your room. It will be a complete mismatched. But with a perfect combination, you will definitely have a decent headboard view in your bedroom.

Keep in mind the scale of you bed and bedroom

Image via: Upholstery Club’s Shelly Leer

Match it with your bedroom style

There’s no better way to have a perfect headboard than matching it with your interior design. It will provide the ambiance that you wanted to have in your room. If you want it sleek and sophisticated, then you can look for squares of wood with clean-lined design. Add some pillows to have a geometric look. You can also explore on customized headboard for better façade.

Choose a headboard that captures your attention

Guest Blogger #869, Entry #2111, February 16, 2013

While you might like the idea of a dark and cozy boudoir for your romantic encounters, the truth is that decorating your bedroom in dark hues and heavy fabrics can make it feel a bit claustrophobic, especially if you don’t happen to live in a mansion that provides you with ample square footage to counteract the shrinking effect of your decor. Or maybe your room just feels a little dark and dingy because you haven’t spruced it up in a few years. While a deep cleaning might do you some good, chances are you’ll have to do a few upgrades in order to achieve the light, bright, and airy bedroom you’ve got your heart set on. So here are just a few tips and tricks that will soon have your space feeling a lot more open and inviting.

Tips to brighten your bedroom

[ad#co-1]

Sheers.

While your dusty old drapes and blinds can certainly provide you with privacy you want, they might not be the best options when it comes to letting the sunshine in. They can actually make your space dark and gloomy, especially if you can only open them a crack so as not to give your neighbors a show. Luckily, it’s easy to add a set of sheer panels that will allow you to fling the curtains wide or draw the blinds up, letting in plenty of daylight while still providing you with a privacy screen. And when you want additional coverage you’ll have it.

Mirrors.

There’s not much you can do if your bedroom simply doesn’t get a lot of daylight due to its position in the house or the shade of neighboring buildings. But rather than shelling out major money to install a skylight in order to get the natural light you’re looking for, you might consider what a few well-placed mirrors can do for you. The addition of mirrors to your home can not only help to give the impression of larger rooms, but they can also be used to bounce light when you place them strategically throughout your space. You can use them to amplify whatever light does come into your bedroom, or you can bounce light from brighter rooms down the hall and into your sleeping space. And often, you can find them on the cheap at garage sales.

Paint.

One of the best ways to make a room lighter and brighter is with a fresh coat of paint. White is certainly an option, although it doesn’t provide much personality. You might also consider pastels, which can give you a hint of color without dragging the walls down on top of you like darker or more saturated shades. And you can always paint the ceiling white to make the room look bigger. As a side note, consider carefully the sheen of the paint, as well as the color. A satin finish will bounce a little light without adding the high glare of a gloss. And it’s easier to clean than a matte finish.

Bring in natural light to your bedroom

Accessories.

If you’re working with a dark or neutral palette but you haven’t got the cash on hand to replace all of your furniture and linens, you can still brighten up the space with a few accessories. You might start by purchasing a couple of flat sheets on the cheap in a white or bright hue and sewing them together to create a new duvet that hides your dark comforter. From there you can decorate with pops of color in the form of throw pillows, vases, photo frames, and other small accessories to create a room design that is altogether more lighthearted.

Lighting.

Poor or limited lighting options can make your space feel dull and drab. So think about adding a larger overhead fixture with more bulbs (or if you happen to have a ceiling fan you can find suitable options at www.theceilingfansite.com). Then add plenty of other options like floor and table lamps or even wall sconces for ambient light. This will definitely help to brighten your bedroom without the major cost of, say, installing recessed lighting.

The headboard may be taken for granted most of the time but it’s the dominant item that gives beauty to your bedroom. Without it, your bed is just plain and flat furniture in your room. Your headboard provides the identity of your bed. It can complement the theme of your bedroom.

The headboard you have in your bed enhances the interior design of your room. This comes in different styles, colors and materials. That’s why it can be confusing and time consuming to choose the right headboard. There are several factors to consider.

Choose a headboard that mimics your design style

[ad#co-1]

To help you choose the right headboard for your bedroom, here are some simple tips to consider:

Consider the dimensions of your room

This is very important to match the size of your bedroom. If you happen to select a tall headboard, expect that it will reduce the size of your room. This is not practical especially in small bedroom space because it consumes a lot of space. The size of your headboard should be in proportion to your room.

Match your headboard with a bedroom theme

When you decide on a headboard make sure you are thinking of your bedroom theme. The two should blend perfectly so that your room will not look cluttered and mismatched. Always remember that your headboard could dictate the general mood you want to have in your bedroom. So, think of it carefully.

Upholstered headboard shows off this home owner’s style

Image via: Apple Photography

Display your design personality

Your headboard should not be just any decorative item in your bedroom. It should be something that will show your character and preference. This will give a feeling of comfort and coziness you want for your room. Also, your personal choice of headboard can make you feel relax after a tiring day.

Take some time to look at several headboard designs from one shop to the other. You can list down the features that you are looking for a headboard and have it as your guide.

Your bedroom headboard is what makes it a total package. Try to remove the headboard and you will definitely see the difference. It will show how a headboard enhances your bed’s appearance. Not only that it improves the looks of your bed but also the entire interior or theme of your room.

The proper selection of your bed’s headboard is essential if you intend to improve your room’s interior design. In fact, your bed’s headboard may become a highlight in your room. All you have to do is to consider every aspect of your theme and it will enhance everything.

To provide you with more ideas about how to choose the perfect headboard for your guest bedroom, here are some ideas worth taking into consideration:

Try having tall headboards

For this headboard idea, size matters! You can simply attract the attention of your guest by having tall headboards. It makes a stunning object in the room and will set the tone of your interior design. When choosing this style, you have to be sure that it’s tall. This will create an eye-catching effect and will definitely stand out due to its size.

Don’t be afraid to get wild with the design

Well, it’s not that you just go and grab anything that will come into your mind. This means that you have to go beyond “good” – don’t settle for anything less. Try to make use of your imagination and put them into a plan.

What colors do you love in your bedroom and headboard?

Image via: adeenidesigngroup.com/portfolio.html

Consider a stunning color

It’s not just the size that matters but so with the color. It is very important that your color blends well with your theme and at the same time captures the attention of your guest with its color. For example, if the majority of your interior color is light colors like white, peach and among others, choose a darker color for your headboard.

You can actually reach the ceiling if you intend to have a tall headboard. The one thing that makes headboards so essential is that it can be utilized to enhance your comfort and interior design that it brings.
