How Sam Halloway started the Olioboard Fan Room:

Some months ago I stumbled across Olioboard by sheer luck. I could see all the wonderful boards and rooms that were being designed and wanted to try it for myself. So I clicked, go create, and thats as far as I got as I didnt have a clue where to start. I searched for help and advice but was only able to find small bits of information dotted all over the place and I had no friends that used olioboard at the time to ask either. Obviously I eventually started designing boards and although still learning something new each day I founded this room so as to bring like minded olioboard designers together to help and advise other users, share ideas and thoughts and most of all have one place with all the information needed to get started. As more and more people joined I started to set up design challenges just for fun to inspire people and maybe to help a few step outside the box and also a support system where members could freely post the links to their official olioboard contests so that other members could easily vote for them if they chose to do so. But most of all, what has made the room it is today, are the fun, friendly members who have made it a great place to hang out, to chat, and to make new friends. So I would like to thank you all for being part of this fun and friendly venture, thank you so much:-)

‘Making Bath Time Fun For Kids‘ – Sam Holloway

As a parent I know how hard it can be at times to get your children into the bathroom let alone into the actual bath itself.

The only way to overcome this is to make the bathroom a fun place to be, there is no need to go over the top, as anything done to excess in decor, won’t work. a few bright accessories here and there with an added personal touch just for them usually does the trick, maybe a few favourite bath toys for added measure, but too many and it will just defeat the subject as they will be more engrossed with their plaything than finishing the bath.

Bold colors and playful designs

Children like bold colours, so choose shades of orange, blue, yellow, purple, red, and green.

Also remember that decorating a kid’s bathroom is not a forever kind of thing, so concentrate on decor you can change easily, like shower curtains, towels and the wall colours.

I wanted to create a unisex bathroom so as to try and stay away from the pink/blue division for boys and girls and many families have a mix of sons and daughters, and decided on the owls as a universal theme

Simple ways to create this look

Make your bathroom a fun and lively space that will appeal to little ones by using colourful wall decals to jazz up plain walls. The one I have used here was from Rosenberry Rooms.

Provide plenty of handy storage that children can reach, too. Baskets on open shelves are brilliant for clearing away toiletries in a dash, and if you allocate a basket per member of the family then the tidying up will be even easier. Here I opted for square, lidded canvas storage with the bright owl detail, from owlbaby and some beautiful bright owl hooks from wanelo, remember though to hang them at a level which is within your Childs reach, these are great for towels and bathrobes.

Treat your bathroom like any other room and hang family photos on the wall so it feels friendly and welcoming. A great idea is to get some fun pictures of your kids in their bubble baths having fun with the foam. Any collection of brightly coloured frames of different sizes and even colours that are within your colour scheme are great, but remember most frames have glass fronts so you want to make sure that they can’t easily be reached or knocked from the wall

Funky motifs and patterns such as this fun and cheerful owl curtain from wanelo.com with some coordinating hooks that I found available from Wal-Mart for 12 hooks, will get kids into the shower quicker. A tip for if you have an over bath shower is to have two curtains on the pole, not only as this reduces the amount of water that escapes from them showering but also as when pulled to one side they will cover enough of the bath where any unsightly toys are stored

I also found a great set of accessories including a tooth brush holder and soap pump from bedbathhome.com, they have a full range which also includes soap dish, tumbler, tissue box cover and a waste paper basket.

One last thing is that you can find children’s toiletries such as soap and shampoo now that come in some great bright packaging as these add that final little touch to what is your now inviting, fun bathroom with resulting clean kids

Staging a Home for Sale : Before & After

Throughout the months I have showed you how Olioboard has helped you ‘Get the Look‘ on Stagetecture, and our newest feature ‘Olioboard Inspiration‘ showcases home inspiration ideas for you home, using this incredible 2D or 3D tool.

If you are new to Olioboard their tagline: “Design a Room and try it before you buy it! Create 2D & 3D rooms that you can save, shop & share.” You can create inspiration boards to help you visualize your interiors, present ideas to your contractor/client or just enjoy perusing through thousands of sets for your enjoyment. I used those tutorials and they helped me with my home staging boards I have created below.

Home Staging – The Man Cave

In my year’s of home staging, the most difficult rooms to sell to a potential home buyer are the rooms that a homeowner has personalized ‘too much’. Sure, it’s fine to showcase your favorite colors, hobbies, and interests in your home. Although, the moment you decide to put your home up for sale – it now becomes the potential for a home buyer to envision themselves living in your home.

Stagetecture has a HUGE man cave following So I found it only fitting to feature a before and after man cave for home staging. To show how a overly personalized room can be changed into a family friendly room that could be appealing to potential home buyers, but still has masculine touches to keep the homeowner feeling like they have a place to still relax and enjoy, until their home sells!

BEFORE: Man Cave Mania

Home Staging challenges:

• Man cave is too personalized. Sports paraphernalia overload and darker colors create a “cave-like” feeling indeed! Home buyers who are not sports fans and are not wanting this overly personalized space will be instantly turned away.
• Overly cluttered with furniture, dark colors creates an unwelcoming room. Dark burgundy wall covering makes the entire space feel like you’re in a movie theater rather than a person’s home.
• Mixture of eclectic styles, and too many displayed collections are a sure fire way to turn a home buyer off!

AFTER: Welcoming Media Room

Home Staging fixes:

• Instead of removing all signs of personalization, the man cave has been turned into a media room. A sports/masculine theme is hinted at but the room is now inviting for a family to enjoy, or even non-sports enthusiasts!
• Burgundy wall covering is removed and a neutral palette of colors is used throughout the room.
• Sports collections, and “bar-inspired” decor is replaced with sophisticated decor that still welcomes entertaining & relaxing.
• Display areas are kept contained in bookshelves in specific areas and not placed randomly around the room. Less clutter and more organized!

I loved this home staging challenge because as home owners we love personalizing, but especially in those rooms that are dedicated to one hobby like a man-cave, these spaces can be the reason a home buyer doesn’t like your home. This before and after shows you that you can transform any room into an enjoyable space for any potential home buyer!

What is the Olioboard Fan Room?

The Olioboard Fan Room is a group of diverse individuals who share a common interest for Interior Design. We are the Fan Page of the Official Olioboard Site which is an online moodboard creator where users can create 2D and 3D Interior Rooms. We share designs, discuss ideas, and compete in our own unique fun challenges. This group is open to anyone who loves Interior Design and is looking for a creative outlet to express their inner decorator.

How can I be Featured on Stagetecture’s “Olioboard Inspiration” & Join the Olioboard Fan Room?

•  Each week – The Olioboard Fan Room administrators will select a member weekly to showcase their talents on Stagetecture..
•  Stagetecture & Olioboard Fan Room will select a theme for the week.
•  Each person selected is asked to share their Stagetecture link with their social community, tag their post on Facebook , tag on Twitter, personal blogs,  and encourage commenting on their posts, etc…
• Each member will write a 350 word min. post about the theme, what Olioboard elements they used, etc.. and submit to the administrators of the Olioboard Fan Room.

‘Storage for a Diva’ – Alison Hayes

I love Hollywood Glam so I am always looking for interesting storage solutions that are fun, sexy, and unexpected for my home. If you lack the additional closet space but have an available wall, recreate this glamour look with these simple organizational items displayed on this virtual design board.

Empty Wall Space –

Need more closet room? Utilize a wall in your bedroom with simple storage units from IKEA Add wall ornaments such as corbels beneath the cabinets and place each unit at different heights to invoke architectural interest.

Visual Impact –

Make a plain wardrobe exciting and fun with a wall mural. Websites like Murals Your Ways  can create any image in any size of your choice. It is a simple “peel and stick” method and creates a “WOW” factor in your room.

Unique Shelving –

Show off your favorite pairs of shoes with elegance. I found these gorgeous wall mounted shoe racks on a website that sells dress maker forms. The scrollwork is beautiful, artistic, unexpected, and makes a beautiful display statement.

Dual Purpose –

The red siren ottoman does double duty with storage and provides additional seating. Dress up your ottoman by adding some fun pillows.

Sexy Accents –

I choose red and black accents for its glamorous sex appeal. The high gloss red mirror has a modern twist of baroque and energizes the space with charm. It is placed above a sleek transitional black console table that not only provides adequate drawer space but has timeless appeal. Finish your organized wall with exciting light fixtures and accents, such as featured lamps, a star shaped chandelier and pretty storage boxes.

Alison Hayes has a Master of Arts Degree in Interior Design and works as a Commercial Interior Designer for the Healthcare Sector. She often uses Olioboard as an outlet for her creative energies and has won numerous virtual board design contest which have been featured all over the world.

One of the best parts about being an Assoc. Architect, Home Stager & Blogger are the great resources out there to help homeowner’s beautify and design their homes on their own. Sure, they still need guidance and helpful hints from professional’s like myself but arming a homeowner with a good design tool is priceless!
