Wool felt in various colors

Scissors

How to Make the Corn-Husk Dolls

Soak the corn-husks in water for 10 minutes. Remove them from water and use a paper towel to absorb the excess water.

Lay 4, 6, or 8 husks together in a stack and tie them together about 1-inch from top with a thin string or twine. Always take even number of husks to make a stack.

Hold the stack with the top part down and separate the husks into equal portions like 2 and 2, 3 and 3, or 4 and 4. Fold the halves down in a way so that they cover the twine or string.

Tie the husks about 1-inch down with a thin string or twine. This makes the head of a doll.

Now, it is time to make the arms, which is actually very easy. You just have to roll a single husk and tie at the both ends with thin twines. The arms are ready!

Insert the arms in between the husks of the head-shaped stack. Position the arms just below the knot of head and make sure that they are equally proportioned at the both sides.

Now, make the waist by tying a knot with a twine just below the arms.

To make female dolls, trim the edges of the husks to an even length. In case of making male dolls, separate the husks below the waist at equal portions and tie twines at knees and ankles. Trim the ends of the legs evenly.

Now, it is the time to dress up the dolls. Cut several strings of yarn or raffia to the same length and glue them to the heads. Cut several rectangular pieces from the wool felts, slit them at the center, and slide over the doll’s head. Tie around the waist with a string of yarn. Add buttons to the dresses with glue. You can also make shoes and hats from paper or felt pieces and glue them to the dolls.

These easy-to-make corn corn-husk dolls pay an apt tribute to the harvest-time of the year. The dolls also look cute and can be adorable decoration pieces in your living room or kid’s room. It is surely going to be your favorite kids fall craft this year!
