Happy Sunday! Who’s ready for some french toast filled with warm strawberries and creamy cream cheese filling? With the 4th of July right around the corner, this breakfast is perfect for your hungry family and guests. I’m not sure which part is better, the strawberries and cream cheese or the golden brown french toast! Either way, enjoy this tasty treat and let me know how you liked it.

Have you ever noticed the smell of warm maple syrup and fresh brioche french toast cooking is a wonderful smell to wake to on Sunday morning? I actually love the smell of any breakfast recipe items cooking! This weekend try this delicious twist on french toast by baking it instead of frying.
Happy Sunday! What’s for breakfast? If you’re looking for a delicious french toast recipe – try todays Banana Walnut French Toast! It is an upside-down recipe, so similar to a gooey sticky bun recipe, you will love how it satisfies your sweet tooth and will start your family’s day off with a smile. Thank you Betty Crocker for the yummy breakfast recipe.

Banana Walnut French Toast

Banana walnut french toast

Image via: Betty Crocker

[ad#co-1]

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3 medium bananas, sliced
1 loaf (about 1 lb) sliced unfrosted firm cinnamon bread
6 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 Powdered sugar, if desired

Banana walnut french toast recipe

Image via: Hood Cook-Off

Directions

1. Spray 13×9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. In large bowl, stir brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and walnuts until smooth. Gently stir in bananas. Spoon mixture into baking dish.

2. Reserve ends of bread for another use because they don’t soak up the egg mixture very well. Arrange 2 layers of bread on banana mixture, tearing bread to fit if needed.

3. In medium bowl, beat eggs, milk and vanilla with wire whisk until well blended. Pour over bread. Cover tightly; refrigerate at least 1 hour but no longer than 24 hours.

4. Heat oven to 325°F. Uncover; bake 45 to 55 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve portions upside down, spooning sauce from bottom of dish over each serving. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Image via: Pinterest

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup ground lightly toasted pecans
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 eggs, separated
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup melted butter plus 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
2 1/2 cups milk
Vegetable oil or nonstick cooking spray, for coating the waffle iron
1 cup pecan pieces
1/2 cup cane syrup
4 medium bananas, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices

Pecan and banana waffles

Image via: Copy Cat Crafts

Directions

Preheat the waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions and preheat the oven to 200 degrees F.

Combine the flour, pecans, baking powder and salt in a medium mixing bowl and whisk to combine. In another bowl, combine the egg yolks and sugar and whisk until pale yellow. Add the vanilla extract, 1/2 cup melted butter, and milk, and whisk to blend. Combine the egg and milk mixture with the flour mixture and whisk until just combined. Do not overmix.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form, about 1 minute. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the egg whites into the waffle batter. Do not overmix.

Using a pastry brush, lightly coat the waffle iron with some of the vegetable oil. Pour enough batter into the iron to just barely cover the waffle grid. Close the waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer’s instructions, or until golden brown, 4 to 6 minutes. Transfer to a baking sheet and keep warm in the oven while you prepare the remaining waffles.

In a saute pan, add the remaining 1/2 cup of butter and the pecan pieces. Cook, stirring occasionally, until pecan pieces are light golden and fragrant, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the banana slices and cook until light golden and soft, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the syrup and bring to a simmer. Serve with the warm waffles.

Sunday Orange Pecan French Toast

pecan french toast

Image via: Adventuress Heart

[ad#co-1]

Ingredients

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/3 cup chopped pecans
12 (3/4 inch thick) slices French bread
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 cup 2% milk
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 egg whites
2 eggs
1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Directions

1. In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar, melted butter, and corn syrup. Pour into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, and spread evenly. Sprinkle pecans over the sugar mixture. Arrange the bread slices in the bottom of the dish so they are in a snug single layer.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the orange zest, orange juice, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, egg whites, and eggs. Pour this mixture over the bread, pressing on the bread slices to help absorb the liquid. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour, or overnight.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C ). Remove the cover from the baking dish, and let stand for 20 minutes at room temperature.
4. Bake for 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Dust with confectioners’ sugar before serving.
