Supplies

• Autumn plants, flowers, leaves, berries, and twigs
• Pumpkins in soft colors (they create an elegant look)
• Flower vase (optional)
• Floral foam
• Pedestal (optional)
• Flower vase (optional)

Procedure

1. Cut the top of your pumpkin and hollow it out.
2. Soak the floral foam in water and cut it to fit the hollow space. If you have a vase, cut the foam to fit the vase.
3. Arrange your flowers in the foam or vase. Group similar flowers and colors together for a dramatic effect.
4. Place the tall plants and flowers in the middle and the shorter ones on the sides. To soften the look, place leaves and amaranth on the pumpkin’s opening.
5. Make sure the flowers are short enough so guests don’t have to strain to look over them when seated.
6. Put the pumpkin on a pedestal for greater impact.
7. If you have a large table, make more than one pumpkin centerpiece.
8. Keep the foam well watered. Once carved, the pumpkin will last a week.

‘Inspiring Contemporary Thanksgiving’    Tabitha Loudon

This year for Thanksgiving I have decided to throw out my run of the mill  autumn décor and try a different, more personal approach. After all Thanksgiving isn’t just about turkey, autumn, orange or brown, it’s about bringing your family and friends together to have the most memorable Thanksgiving ever!

I have decided that this year I wanted to add a little of my own personality to our  Thanksgiving decor as well as making my guests feel especially welcomed. To do this I played with different color schemes, styles and seating arrangements to create the perfect atmosphere for my guests.  I wanted  to use colors  that are classy and  refined with a little pizazz. So I have decided that this years palette will be black and gold. I think that choosing the right colors are a great starting point in setting the mood for the celebrations. Black and gold reminds me of timeless elegance.

Contemporary Thanksgiving Style

I think my guests will feel like they are going to a fancy black tie dinner. I have decided to mix up the styles as  I am an eccentric and love  experimenting and trying something a little different and non traditional. One of this years trends in holiday table decor is feathers. The turkey doesn’t have to be the only bird on the thanksgiving table. Feathers add a sort of nontraditional flair and look great as a part of the main centerpiece or for individual  place settings. I like feathers because they remind me of a grand celebration and that is what Thanksgiving should be. I have also mixed in some international decor.

I wanted Thanksgiving to reflect that we as a country are multi cultural and I wanted to bring a sense of togetherness and  unity. Another option to consider is to have a international menu, do some research into  what recipes there are instead of the traditional turkey. If you don’t have much table space or seating, think about bringing tables together and adding a small loveseat to create a comfortable atmosphere your guests will love. Thanksgiving is a great time to share with friends and family. Sometimes a change of scenery can help  brighten up those family moments and make them everlasting.
