Celebrate Earth Day with an Eco-Friendly Dinner Party

Earth Day reminds us to take care of our community as well as the surrounding environment. This day on April 22 is especially dedicated to the efforts of keeping the planet clean and green and it can be celebrated in many ways. Arranging for an eco-friendly dinner party is one of them:

Decorate Party Room with Eco-Friendly Items

Apart from holding the party in backyard or patio, you can arrange it in your living room too. You can decorate the room by making Earth Day banners by using used or old pillowcases or any other type of fabrics. Draw birds, butterflies, or plants, and inscribe some words related to the day on those fabrics. You can also make some animals or flowers out of cardboard or fabrics and hang them on the party room. Earth globes, small potted plants, and terrariums can also be used for decorative purposes.

Keep Everything ‘Green’ on the Table

Every item on your table should be totally green. Everything from the centerpiece to the placemats should be completely reusable and recycled. You can use fresh vegetables as the centerpiece, which can be cooked for dinner in the following night. Use recycled brown craft paper for placemats, herbs and terra cotta pots, LED votive candles, and organic linen-made napkins.

You can keep the meal simple but tasty and healthy at the same time. Minted pea soup, pasta with asparagus, and mini cheesecakes garnished with honey can be an ideal dinner for an Earth Day party.

Make Organic Cocktails

Entertain your guests with organic cocktails instead of liquors full of preservatives, chemicals, and calories. You can buy organic vodka or make mixed drinks by using certified organic mixes. However, the best thing will be to make cocktails with organic ingredients like fresh oranges, lemons, limes, cucumber, slices of strawberry, and mint.

Say ‘No’ to Plastic Dinnerware

Plastic dinnerware is popular because they are easy to clean up. However, plastics can pose health risks as they leak some detrimental chemicals into foods when they are used for serving extremely hot food. In fact, disposable plates and cups – usually made of plastic or paper – wind up in a landfill. So, use real China, flatware, and napkins. If you have to use disposable dinnerware, look for compostable, biodegradable ones.

Eco-Friendly Parting Gifts

Parting gifts is a nice way to send off your guests but it will be nicer if they leave with something that will make their home a little bit greener. The gift options can be many such as small potted plants, a packet of seeds, a small honey bottle tied with a green ribbon, gardening books, birdhouses, etc.

Hosting a dinner party on the Earth Day is a great way to show your neighbors and friends the simple changes you are making to save the green and in a broad sense, save the environment. It will also be a way to inspire them for leading a healthier and greener life.
