How to Remodel your Bathroom on a Budget
So you have finally made a decision to give your bathroom a new look but you don’t quite have the amount of money you hoped you’d have. Well the good news is that you can definitely do all types of remodel jobs in your home even on a budget. The key thing to remember is to develop a general remodel plan for your bathroom before you get started, even though it may be subject to change. Here are five tips for remodeling your bathroom on a budget.
Research Prices Before Buying
Before you start purchasing items for your bathroom remodel job, you first take some time to research the items and find out who currently has the best deals. Many hardware and home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowe’s have store sales and deals each week. You should take the time to compare the prices in your local area before making your final purchase. The Internet is also an excellent source to finding deals as well.
Replace Only What is Needed
While planning for your bathroom remodel, you should determine what is actually needed to be replaced. You don’t want throw away a perfectly good sink or countertop that could easily be repainted or refinished to fit into your new bathroom design. So before you tear down the entire bathroom, take inventory and determine what can be kept or saved. This tip will help you stay within your budget by not spending unnecessary money.
Do the Simple Work Yourself
Hiring a contractor to do the entire remodel job can be very expensive. Before hiring contractors, look and see if you can do some of the work yourself such as painting or installing tile. If you don’t know how, see if a friend or family member can help you. You can also check with the local home improvement stores in your area to see if they offer classes on how to do certain projects for a small fee or free of charge.
Keep Your Remodel Job Simple
Before you plan a totally new bathroom with several new additions, try to remember to keep your remodel job simple. Although you may want to have the best newest bathroom with up-to- date designs and fixtures, you don’t want to overdo it and make several expensive mistakes along the way.
Stay Within Your Budget
As with any type of remodel project, it is important to stay within your budget for the entire project. Before you start the project, it may be wise to create a standard budget for materials and labor. In case a problem may arise during the remodel job such as a water leak, you should set aside money for emergency repairs only.
