How We Updated our Home’s Exterior Design with Mid-America Vinyl Shutters

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post by Mid-America Shutters. All opinions are strictly my own.

The exterior design of our 1987 brick home has always looked very dated. With its cornflower blue wood shutters in which many were rotting and falling apart, our home was stuck in the 80’s! I was excited to pair with Mid-America Shutters to try out their vinyl shutters that would resist climatic changes, insects and moisture. Living in Jacksonville, Florida the humidity and insects can take a toll on wood and especially on our old shutters. Take a look at how easy it was for my husband and I to install new vinyl shutters and catapult into the current century. 🙂

Why We Needed to Get Rid of the Old Wood Shutters

The current blue shutters were more than ready to go. A few of them had lost slats, were falling apart from age and/or insects and moisture. The previous owner had used metal nails that started rusting through the wood and that made for unsightly shutters. We were in desperate need of a better solution for visual and physical impact that would be affordable, durable and easy to install.

Here are the Advantages of Installing Mid-America Vinyl Shutters

  • Maintenance free – no painting, pressure washing needed
  • Impervious to moisture and insects
  • They are made in the USA
  • The vinyl won’t degrade like wood will!
  • They look gorgeous and come in many shutter colors and styles to match the architectural style of your exterior design

Installing the Vinyl Shutters was Easier than We Thought!

We have a brick home and we were concerned that the vinyl screws wouldn’t penetrate the brick. The Mid-America Shutters instructions were very clear and for a brick wall we used their Shutter-Loks by drilling a ¼” hole into the brick where we wanted the hole. If you drill into brick use a hammer drill and cement drill bit.

In the picture below you can see the Shutter-Loks on the right and we pre-drilled the holes on the back of each shutter before drilling into the brick.

Our Exterior Design Instantly Enhanced with Vinyl Shutters

Once we removed the old blue shutters and drilled in the new vinyl shutters, the process didn’t take us more than 45 minutes to install all of the shutters and bring our home back into the current age! We absolutely love them, what do you think?
