Board games
Board games like Scrabble and Monopoly are interesting ways to while away the hours. In fact you can take it as an opportunity to introduce new games too. Alternatively, give your kids some blank notebooks and pencils, and encourage them to write or sketch during designated quiet time.
Movie night
Portable DVD players along with campfire popcorn make it easy to have a campsite movie night. Moreover, popcorn is a great alternative to traditional s’mores, especially if you don’t want your kids to get pumped up on sugar, right before the bedtime.

Who does not love to go on quests and adventures? Make a list of items to find- all with different shapes, sizes, and colors and head on for a walk in the wild full of discoveries. Leaves of specific shapes or rocks of certain colors are definite winners. For a fun yet educational twist, consider playing the alphabet game. The idea is to look for a natural object that starts with a particular alphabet.
Build a campfire
What’s camping without a campfire? Teach your kids how to safely build a fire. They will enjoy the responsibility and will learn an important survival skill at the same time. Toddlers and preschoolers can help by collecting sticks and twigs, whereas, older ones can get closer to the action. But make sure to strongly enforce the rule that children are never, ever to build a campfire without the presence of an adult. Don’t forget to make s’mores!
