Get the Look: Decorating your Home the Moroccan Way

Entry #2289, April 12, 2013

If you are up for an exotic yet elegant look for your home, you should consider the Moroccan style decor. It’s beautiful, warm, and, ornate. Moroccan designs are a perfect blend of European and Moorish influences displaying a wonderful union of style and architecture. This fusion of French, Arab, Spanish, and Berber style art deco looks very exotic and appeals to many. The best feature of Moroccan style decoration is, you don’t have to perk up the entire room, a few simple accessories, or touch ups will do the trick!

Furnishings

Moroccan interiors are busy in pattern but often simple in furniture. Set low to the ground, some pieces like tables and poufs are inviting and can be decorated quite intricately. Moroccan furnishings rely heavily on elaborate wrought ironwork and carved wood.

Use of Textures

Rich textures and patterns are typical of Moroccan décor. Elaborate throw pillow and cushions made from luxurious fabrics are one of the important accessories of their style. Fusion of multiple shapes and textures are ideal. You can also choose to have dark wood plank floors covered with plush Persian or natural fiber rugs. Draping rich elaborate fabric from the ceilings can also be interesting.

Moroccan Lighting

Lighting plays an essential role in Moroccan style decoration. Focused on dim lighting, fancy lamps and lanterns made from colored glass, carved wood, or, cut metal are just so Moorish in style. Using candles in these traditional lamps will further add some mystery to the beautiful and elegant décor. Chandeliers, hanging pendants, wall scones are equally good lightning choices. Moroccan lighting fixtures are particularly unique and are quite different from those used in other parts of the globe but you can easily find some great options online.

Romantic Mirrors

Decorative mirrors enhance the ambiance of any Moroccan interior. Opt-in for painted or dyed mirrors made from wrought iron or deeply carved wood. Onion dome-shaped frames or jewel embellishments are perfect examples. Overall, if you have an appreciation for colors, Moroccan mirrors will never disappoint you.

Decorating your home the Moroccan way is the latest trend these days. Influenced by many cultures, when it comes to Moroccan decorations, there’s something to be found for everyone.
