How to Bring Rustic Decor Elements into your Interiors

Rustic decor style is all about highlighting a rugged, natural beauty in a decoration scheme. Also known as the country decor or French country decor style, it exudes unpretentious and organic warmth with nature-inspired textures and maintains an artful balance between practical and chic.

The traditional country style might appear heavy and dark but contemporary rustic style is comparatively fresher, lighter, and more grounded. Let’s take a look how to bring rustic decor elements into your interiors:

Stylish but Unassuming Furniture

Rustic decor style furniture always stands in the line between elegance and functionality. They are well shaped, well scaled, and create a stylish yet unstudied harmony. Choose the furniture in your home in soft, earthy colors, which have just a touch of decorative flourish. However, stay away from matching furniture sets because they damage the rugged charm of country style.

Incorporate Natural Elements

French country decor always celebrates natural look and textures. Blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor is in the essence of this style. So, incorporating natural elements such as flowers, rocks, plants, etc. makes the transition from outside to in much easier. Bring fresh flowers and plants and group them in pottery or clay vases in a casual manner so that they look like coming from your backyard garden!

Bring natural stones in your home to make a fresh, royal statement. Install them in your entryway, bathrooms, fireplace, kitchen, or wherever seems suitable. Collect some river rocks, put them in a clay bowl, and place somewhere to make a wonderful centerpiece.

Use the Warmth of Wood

Anything made of wood exudes a sense of warmth and coziness, which perfectly describes the rustic style. So, wooden furniture or wide wood planks on the floors will create a strong rustic impression. It will be even better if you can create an accent wall with wood panels and install chunky wood beams on the ceiling. Such woodwork is a nice reflection of the outdoors.

Oversized, Chunky Accent Pieces

Accent pieces used in rustic decor scheme are never overly decorative. Featuring a hint of usefulness, the rustic accent pieces look masculine, rugged, yet simple. Oversized candelabra, a couple of chunky wooden tools, or a rough-looking metal planter will provide distinct presence and drama within your interiors.

Rustic decor style is simple and unassuming yet effortlessly elegant. The style bridges old-world sensibility to a sophisticated modern freshness, injecting a sense of refinement in any setting. Just try to keep your interiors as natural as possible without being showy or overdone and your home will reflect the air found in the gentle hills and valleys of rural France.
