An old mattress can literally be a pain in the back. Getting rid of it however, can be just as difficult as getting rid of all the other old Faithful in our lives. There are many options available for getting rid of your old mattress in your bedroom, but before you do so make sure that you have a new, comfortable and durable mattress that fits all your sleeping needs.

Ideas for getting rid of your old mattress:
1. Have it hauled away
If you have bought a new mattress from a store or company then you can arrange with the company or store to have your old one hauled away when the new one is being delivered. Many companies provide this service either at a separate cost or as a price included in the delivery fees (if any exist) If you but your mattress online this may pose a problem as many online companies do not provide this haul-away service.
2. Dump it
This is possibly the simplest way to get rid of your old mattress. Your garbage collection company usually has the capacity to move larger items. Since this is not a part of the regular routine of garbage collection then you will have to call them to make special arrangements to pick up your old mattress.
3. Sell it
Depending on the condition of your mattress you may want to put it up for sale at a yard sale. Many people may think it’s a steal and surprisingly be very grateful to find such a great buy. When you selling your old mattress make sure that there are no stains, excessive lumps, or springs sticking out. This may turn off buyers and you will then eventually have to make other arrangement to get rid of it.

4. Recycle it
With the green movement now in full swing, this may be one of your chances to contribute to the preservation of our environment. Simply calling your garbage collection company to have them haul away your mattress is not enough. You will need to find out how they will dump it, or even if they can accept it for recycling. Many mattresses are too old and in too poor a condition to be considered for recycling. Some on the other hand can be recycled, these recyclable mattresses are broken down into foam and springs and sold separately, and you may get a price for these.
5. Donate it
There are many local charities and homeless shelters that could use an extra mattresses. Ensure that your mattress is in good enough condition. Make sure it has no stains or springs sticking out and most importantly call the charity or homeless shelter before you decide to deliver so that they can assess the shape of your mattress and decide whether or not they will be able to take it.
6. Reuse it
Foam mattresses can be cut up to make foam pillows and spring mattresses can be dismantled and sold as scrap metals. The covering may be used to make pillow coverings or for other purposes.
