While decorating a boy’s bedroom may not seem like too difficult of a task, a number of considerations must still be made. First are your boy’s preferences. What colors does he like? What’s his personality? What is he into?
It’s no longer just a case of picking between masculine colors such as blue or white. If you want your boy’s bedroom to really stand out, you’ve got to be specific. These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself before commencing your plans to decorate.

Colors and Themes
As always, the overall color scheme of the bedroom is where it all starts. While surprising your boy may seem tempting, it often doesn’t work out well in the long run. Kids are likely to be wary of something you dreamt up on your own, so let them have full rein on the choice of color. Work closely with the child to determine their preferred scheme.
Interior designers often recommend earth tone colors, as they are often the easiest to work with when it’s time to bring in decor and furniture. Blue may be cliché, but it’s a classic for a good reason. Rustic and antique colors are yet another good idea—as one interior designer puts, it can be a great start for a pirate ship or camping theme for your boy’s bedroom.
Shelves
According to interior designers, you can never go wrong with having shelves and more shelves in a boy’s room. Now, as for the style and colors of your shelves, that is something you’ll have to choose wisely. Factors such as your color scheme and space must be taken into account of. Shelves not only serve a utilitarian purpose for storage and display, they also look good when used to display charming apparel. If your boy is into sports for example, then decorate shelves with sports memorabilia.

Don’t Forget the Essentials
A boy’s room just isn’t complete without the essentials. By that I mean a study area, an area for socializing and playing, and a display section. Obviously, it’s a lot easier to bring all of that in when you’re working with a lot of space, but what about when you don’t? You can get creative with your furniture to maximize space. A loft bed for example, can be built to hide a desk underneath. Nesting tables are also great for displaying toys and art work. To get the best pieces, you may want to look at bespoke furniture.
These are just some of the ideas you can start with when decorating a boy’s bedroom. There are more ideas you can learn from, just don’t forget to incorporate your boy’s thoughts during the process.
