Guest Blogger: Stress-Free Holiday Home Decorating Tips

 Entry #1942, December 18, 2012

We all love the holidays, but it can always be a challenge to decorate it. It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Decorating for the holidays takes a lot of time and effort, which can often lead to stress. To make your holiday decorating a little easier, follow these tips:

Choose a theme.

Whether you want glitz and glamour or a more traditional look for the holidays, setting a theme will make shopping for decorations a breeze. If you don’t have a vision for a theme, consider establishing a color scheme. When it comes to lights, so, stick with white since they will go with every color scheme from year to year.

Build a collection.

Each year, splurge on one piece so that you gradually build a collection of holiday decorations of which you’ll be proud. Building a collection over time is budget-friendly since you won’t have to spend large amounts of money at once.

Replace everyday items with their holiday counterparts.

Decorating shouldn’t just mean putting decorations around your existing home décor. Change out aspects of your décor and replace them with holiday versions. Swap your usual curtains for Christmas lace curtains or add a scenic panel to your usual front door.

Delight your senses.

Decorating isn’t all about what the eye can see, but also what you smell. Light some holiday candles – pine and fresh cut greens, cinnamon, and holly – to lift your spirits while you’re decorating.

Make time to unwind.

After lugging around boxes of decorations, standing in long lines, and carrying bulky presents to their hiding spots, odds are you’ll need a well-deserved break. Make time to unwind, whether you go get a manicure or simply draw yourself a bath, you’ll make more progress on your To Do list if you’re less stressed.
