Figure Out What Your Dealing With

Before you call a pest control company, the first thing you should do is decide what you are dealing with. What kind of insect is it? Where are they mostly living? Are there multiple areas of the house being affected? Once you nail down these particulars, you can assess the severity of the problem.

Assess the Problem

Once you have decided what insect you are dealing with it’s time to decide the severity of the problem. For instance one major sign you have termites is when they swarm. Fastfacts.com reports that a colony has settled in your house when, “hundreds, even thousands of these little critters [termites] swarm out of your walls and cover a room or two.” If you witness a swarm, you have a major infestation on your hands. Since we are getting into termite season, make sure you are on the look out for these types of occurrences.

When to Call in a Professional

Depending on your insect problem you might not need to call in the big guns. If it is a daddy long legs or a fruit fly you might just need to spray or clean up some clutter. If however you spot a silverfish for example, (see image below) then it’s time to call a professional. Silver fish aren’t usually seen during the day so a sighting is a bad sign.
