Culture on demand
Anyone considering a family break in France’s capital city need not worry about finding something to fill their days. Grown-ups will love the fact that Paris is stuffed with museums and art galleries such as The Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou and the Rodin Museum. Culture vultures can feast on a rich diet of grand masters, contemporary works and sublime sculpture, all exhibiting within the city limits.
Boat trips along the River Seine give a different perspective on the City of Light and are a perfect way of spending a relaxing afternoon for all the family. Children’s highlights include Disneyland Paris, which is a half hour train ride from central Paris and offers all the usual thrilling attractions. For teens, the Paris Sewer Tour may appeal in a gross way or for an out of town excursion head to Versailles where ‘France Miniature’ offers a fascinating display.

Sweet diversions
No-one goes to Paris without being blown away by the cakes and pastries on offer. All the family can indulge themselves in the patisseries and boulangeries, although it would be necessary to stay for months to sample all the delicacies available. Patisserie is something of an art in France and the little cakes are true things of beauty; small and large children alike find their shiny jewel colors and sweet creamy confections irresistible.

Flying in
Paris is a major transport hub in central Europe and as such, getting in and out is simple and straightforward. Direct flights from the USA with Air France are frequent and once arrived in the city navigating around is easy. Getting to Paris from either Orly or Charles de Gaulle airports is easy on the RER, a quick and efficient rail service. For subway transport around Paris, take the Metro, which has no less than three hundred stations and covers vast areas of the city. Other transport options include buses, which work well and have the added bonus of taking in some of the sights as they make their way along the streets and boulevards.
Paris weather forecast
The best times to visit are during springtime, when the weather is fresher and the gardens at Jardin du Luxembourg and Tuileries are in full bloom. July and August can be very hot and busy, as most of the country goes on vacation. Between November and February visitors will find that the crowds are smaller, which means getting into attractions is easier and prices are generally lower. The downside of this is that the weather can be a bit cold and damp. That said, Christmas in Paris is magical, the perfect time for a family visit.
