Home Decor: How to Decorate with Winter Textures

The winter chill has reached the bone right? I am sure most of us secretly wish for the season to stay but also pray dearly for some warmth. Many aspects of home decor can provide very easy solutions to the problem. Decorating with winter patterns and textures is one of the most effective ways. Using soft, velvety textures,  vibrant and fun inducing patterns in wintery setups can sure provide the requisite dose of warmth and mellow. Come lets heat things up:)

Sheepskin Along With Woven Textures

The word ‘Sheepskin’ has an inherent quality of warmth and that translates very well into its texture. Sheepskin furnishings have a very soft cosy feel  to them and when they are placed against knitted or woven textures there comes an extra dose of unpretentious homeliness that is so needed in the cold winter months.

Tribal Patterns & Colors Placed Against Cane & Jute

Tribal patterns have always interested me. The vibrant colours, invigorating motifs and the rustic touch that they bring along does a lot to soothe the winter chill. I love to pair the ‘tribal  decor’ with jute mats and cane furniture to add the warm wooden touch keeping intact a feeling of softness and snug.

Room Decorating Ideas – Grays, Whites & Neutrals

Snow stands synonymous with winter chill and somehow we translate it into something very cold and impersonal. What if you could defy it in your home decor? Yes, it is possible to do that. Sheepskin, is one answer for that. Another one lies in using the winter colors like silvery grays, almost neutral beiges and whites in such a way so as to create a warm cosy decor. One could use soft textured rugs, velvety cushions and complementing bedspreads & sheets to create the warm wintery look.

The Busy Look

‘Clutter’, has some heat about it! Doesn’t it? What about a conglomeration of  patterns, textures and colors, reflected through curtains, rugs, cushions, wall art etc. that are all different and yet complementing each other. Quite apt for winter, I say.

Stripes All Bright

Stripes used in soft yet bright colors in accent pieces can create a very warm setup. When used along with accessories with busy prints you have a decor that does volumes to combat the chill outside. A woollen shawl carelessly thrown around, does no harm either.

Patterns and textures are a ver effective way of representing a certain mood or creating the desired effect in a home decor setup. Home owners can in fact use their intuition to combine colors, textures and patterns to meet their tastes and combat home design issues, very effectively. We would love to hear from you if you have ever tried the pattern and texture technique at home. Please do not shy to share!
