If your winter decor in your home is feeling and looking dark and dreary, you need some decorative tips to warm it up! When you want to warm up a room, you don’t always have to turn up the heat or bring in an electric heater. Sometimes the way you decorate a room can make it warmer. There are some simple things that you can do in just about any room, that when complete, should help to make your room feel a little bit warmer. If you can do these effectively, you may even save some money on your heating bill.
How Winter Decor Can Make A Room Warmer
Winter Decor Ideas: Change the Wall Paint Color
While painting your room a different color may not impact the temperature much, it can sometimes make you feel warmer nonetheless. By choosing a warmer paint color, you can make a room cozier, and your mind will think that it is warmer in their than it really is. Again, this will not keep the heat in your room any better, but it could play a little trick on your mind.
Look to your Window Treatments and Window Coverings
A lot of heat can escape through your windows, even when they are closed, so you want to make sure they are covered properly. Choose window treatments that keep heat in, but also allow sunlight to heat up a room. If you have blinds or curtains, keep them open when the sun is out to allot the heat in, and close them at night to keep the room warmer. Curtains are also another place you can choose a warm color, to make the room feel more cozy.
Winter Decor: Consider Choosing a Different Flooring
If you are walking around with nothing on your feet, you’ll be able to tell the difference rather quickly between a floor that is tiled, and one that is carpeted. A floor covered in carpet will be much warmer than those that are tiled or hardwood, and can make you feel a little warmer. Of course, carpet does not work in every room – like a bathroom – but it will work in the ones you probably spend the most time in – like your living room. If you really want to stick with tiles, you can look into getting heated floors for some extra warmth.

Adding a Fireplace or Wood Stove can Help
This last option is more expensive and difficult to do, but if you can add a source of heat to your room, not only will it get warmer, but it can look great too. A fireplace can make a room look more elegant and cozy at the same time, and a heating stove can have the same effect. Installing a small stove in any room will instantly give it more heat, and the roaring flame will make you want to stay nice and cozy under a blanket all day.
Consider Having your Heater or Furnace Serviced
If you have tried the above tricks, and your room still feels cold, you may have to settle for turning up the heat. Before you go blasting your heat system though, it is a good idea to have regular maintenance performed on it by a heating and air conditioning company. This way you can ensure that it is functioning properly, and you are getting the most for your money.
