Home Decor – Using dark doors to lighten your interiors

Entry #87, May 12, 2010

When you walk in and out of rooms, do you pay attention to the doors? For most of us, the doors are a way to get in and out of a space, and we don’t give them a second glance.   What if I told you that your decor could breathe life by adding dark doors to your space? Sound strange? Look at these great examples from Canadian House & Home.

The outdoors are framed beautifully with these dark glass exterior doors.

Agreed. These dark accents look so impressive. Especially in these spacey rooms. Do you thinks the effect would be similar if incorporated into an apartment (read small space) dwelling?

I think it would depend on the coloring in the space. What makes these doors look so wonderful, is the sharp contrast against the light walls, furnishings, etc.. The size of the door would be one issue too. If your doors aren’t large, and the rest of the room isn’t closed in, they may be the pick-me up a room needs. Another suggestion, maybe do not-so darker doors, but not the dark-espresso brown. Instead opt for a medium chocolate, or deep burgundy/wine color – depending on the space. Thanks for your comment Gosia!
