Home Improvement Tips: How to Find Hidden Storage

One of the best things about the winter season is that there seems to be more down time, things are seemingly slower paced than during the holiday season. Which means, that now you have the opportunity to focus on some of the areas around your home that you may have been neglecting during the previous season. One home improvement tip that will help is by adding more storage to your home. Nothing is more annoying than collecting items and not having the amount of space to accommodate them. Well, fortunately this article is for you just take a look below at some ways you can add some more storage to your place.

As Simple as a Shelf

One of the simplest ways to add storage to your home is by adding shelving. Find areas along your walls or even corridors that might be able to handle some shelving, and this will also help to determine the sizing of the shelves and how many you can put up. Keep this idea in mind when storing things in your garage, kitchen and bathrooms. You can store items that are small and minute, like accent figures or decorative pieces all the way to large items like storage bins for the kid’s old sports equipment that is no longer in use. Plus, shelves are great DIY projects just visit your local home improvement store and they can tell you from there.

Create Storage in Obsolete Areas

How about selecting areas in your home that you may take for granted everyday? For instance, take the space underneath your stairs or once again the walls to be areas for storage. The great thing is that the space under your stairs (stair storage) is already there for the taking, just decide on what type of storage area you want it to be? Like a cleaning supplies closet or an extra coat closet, the choice is yours. Or now recessed cabinets are becoming a more popular way of adding more space into your home. With today’s technology, you can pretty much accomplish many DIY home improvement projects yourself, and installing recessed cabinets is one of them.

Use Seating and Floating Islands

Have you ever thought about using your furniture as storage units? Well believe or not it’s true! Think about it, bench seating, storage ottomans, even kitchen islands. All of these items and more are great ways to keep collectibles like books, toys, kitchen utensils and more still in the area yet out of the way. Sometimes we can forget that the things we already have to help the things that we have kept gathering to help contain.
