Home Organization: How to Get Rid of Paper Clutter

When it comes to home organization, one of the most common complaints is of paper clutter. Whether it’s in the kitchen, home office or anywhere else the piles of paper that stack up are undoubtedly annoying. Moreover, paper clutter is a threat to important documents as they can get lost easily. So, if you feel that you are drowning in paper, here are some easy ways to get organized.

Go Green Go Paperless

These days almost all monthly bills can be paid online. All you need to do is contact the service provider to request the service. Going paperless will not only help reduce the paper clutter but is eco-friendly too!

Adopt a Filing System

Allocate your important papers into categories

Get a filing cabinet and allocate your important papers into categories. A good idea is to file everything according to name such as bank, receipts, bills etc or color code them the way you want to. While doing so make sure to determine what you need to keep and for how long. There are certain documents you must keep for a certain period of time. For instance, it’s advised to keep bank statements for a year, tax returns forever, and some statements until you get the subsequent month’s statements.

Evaluate Your Subscriptions

Take a thorough look at all the magazine and news subscriptions and ask yourself if they are doing any good to you or draining you? If they are stacking up unread, they are draining you not only financially but also emotionally due to guilt. Consider cancelling subscriptions of all the items you haven’t read in the past three months. You will feel much lighter and organized.

Use a Coupon Organizer

Do you have a drawer or a cabinet full of expired unused coupons? It’s time to toss them. It’s a great idea to cut coupons and save the dough, but only if you cut them and use them. So, create a regular spot for the coupons so that you can easily access them when you next trip to the grocery store. If you are trying to go digital why not collect digital coupons and get rid of the physical organizer and all?

While these home organization tips will help to fight the struggle against the paper clutter, the key is to minimize the incoming paper and create regular spots to store the ones that find their way in. Let us know what’s your method for organizing the never ending stream of bills, mails, receipts, and more?
